Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

New Zealand remain very firm favourites in the Tri Nations although Australia have shortened from 7/1 into 9/2 after their win in Brisbane - you can get 33/1 the Boks.

Currie Cup looking wide open with the Bulls and WP now 5/2

Full betting update on site http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/rugby/c … pdate.html

Looks like New Zealand will start around 6.5 point favourites this weekend.

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

If you look at the long term Currie Cup markets the best book looks pretty healthy and is you assume that the Lions and Griquas cannot win it you are betting into an 89% book.

There must be some value there but I am still very confused as to who I fancy to win?

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

Good weekend for me, although the WP game could have made it an Awesome weekend, would like to thank the officials for cocking up that handicap!

Sharks v Cheetahs will be a smashing game, can't wait for the caps. I would make Sharks 21 pt favourites wink smile

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

Basically pulled square for the weekend in the rugby punting and I will take that.

I got the Bok game badly wrong again. Pumas, Griquas and Cheetahs ariving for me. And then I continue to get the WP caps wrong. So far in the Sportspick comp I have 3 incorrect calls and they are the 3 games WP have played so far this year.

Looking forward to this weekend's handicaps. RB, a 21 point start to the Cheetahs will be awesome! I would put everything I own plus my fiance on the Cheetahs on a 21 point handicap!

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

The WP game would have made it an GREAT weekend but the missed hcap - still not sure how they managed to mess it up - meant an OK w/end.
Leopards +15 v Griquas - at home and will fight hard
WP v Pumas +35 or more - only depends on team WP put out
Cheetahs v Sharks - not sure of cap but think Cheetahs win this. If not mistaken Sharks history pretty good in Bloem?
Lions v Bulls - Lions will lose again. Bulls -9

You think I am out with my Sharks -21?  laughsmiley

Interested to see the bookies pricing up. Love spotting the early value and almost got a full house last week! Enjoying the CC this year. Will let you know my views on the caps once they come out, think its best the forum does not "guess" the handicaps before the bookies price up.

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

WSB out with their handicaps.

Leopards +10.5
Pumas +26.5
Sharks +1.5
Lions +7.5

Nothing really jumps out at me, although I do fancy WP to beat the Pumas by more than 27 points.

This weekend while watching one of the games I saw Voltbet advertising on the advertising boards next to the field. Have never heard of them. Checked out their site this morning and saw they have the Sharks at 2/1 against the Cheetahs. Opened an account straight away, deposited funds and chucked it the way of the Sharks. 2/1 is way to big and I reckon I'll be able to cover my stake on the Cheetahs somewhere else and then just hope the game don't end in a draw.

Sharks outright in to 15/10 on Voltbet now. They are also out with their handicaps which are as follows:

Leopards +12.5
Pumas +28.5
Sharks +3.5
Lions +7.5

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

I looked at the spreads and I fancy the Pumas at +29, this team showed against the Sharks that they are no pushovers. Also fancy the Cheetahs at home -2.
Aus at +7.5 is another cap I fancy, all at Betx.

Agree with you Logan, also taking a punt that Brent Graham will go high on Pumas shirts  laughsmiley

Problem with these 25+ handicaps is that if the team is winning by 20+ with 5 minutes to go, they are not going to give a fully loaded tackle as the game is won already (Case in point was those bladdy Province chops against the Leopards last weekend)

Here are my fancies
Pumas +29.5
Griquas -10 (The Griquas are 3/3 in handicaps)
Cheetahs to win (19/20 at SportsBet)
Bulls -7.5

RB, I love the Griqas running rugby approach, but I'm a bit reluctant on that sp. I remember last season when Griqas had to fight for the win on Olen Park, think they won by one point in the end.
Think that game is going to be a cracker.

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

Hey Guys. Agreed that nothing really jumps out at you on these Caps, but i am going to have a good nibble with pumas +29 and Bulls -8. Obviously a big decider will be team selection with WP and Bulls, but i fancy Province to get well ahead only to go to sleep again after the bonus point has been secured and moast subs been made, thus allowing the Pumas to get within the 29 mark. And as with Popgun, lets hope we can call the WP cap right for the first time!! Also, with the Bulls key players back in I also fancy them to give the Lions another lesson!! 10 or more..

Sharks vs Cheetahs always a tough one to call, and i would wager that this game will also come down to the wire. gut feeling though, home ground advantage will be the decider, and Cheetahs to win narrowly!!

First with the head, and then with the heart!!

Tri Nations Preview Up http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/rugby/t … aland.html

I am leaning towards the Aussies at +9 but I like RB's advice in the Rugby Podcast (click link below) of waiting for the overs unders quotes to come out and then perhaps going unders given the reported state of the pitch. http://gftg.podomatic.com/entry/2010-07 … 2_48-07_00

Although the Griquas are the handicap kings, I thought the Leopards did OK last week, maybe they were flattered by the late scores bombing the WP handicap punts but they will take heart from it and I see them running Griquas close.

Leopards + for me.

Was that half a million win or place on Lucky Dan....?

I have posted Brent's previews and I don't think he is going to be popular http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/rugby/c … night.html

He likes Griquas but is waiting for points and shirts quotes and makes WP -26.5 his Currie Cup bet of the weekend.

Lions are giving a debut to 19-year-old Baby Boks flyhalf Elton Jantjies against the Bulls.

I like the youth policy but to start this fella against the Currie Cup champs is a bit daft! They even have Carlos Spencer on the bench  laughsmiley
Not complaing as I have 20 Units on Bulls -7.5 at 9/10.

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

Only one bet down for me so far: 10 units on the Sharks to beat the Cheetahs at 2/1. Still contemplating whether or not to cover my stake by puting down 12.5 units on the Cheetahs at 8/10 and just hope the game doesn't end in a draw. Bit risky though. Waiting to see the Sharks team before making a decision. The Sharks doesn't have a good record in Bloem, but they did beat the Cheetahs convincingly there last year.

RB, that Bulls bet should arrive. Lions team looking very thin and the Bulls will be looking for improvement after last week. The returning Springboks should also strengthen them.

Brent, I also feel that WP will win by 30 plus, but after getting all three their handicaps wrong so far I'm not very confident about betting on it.

Also feel that Griquas should beat the cap against the Leopards.

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

Sharks Team below. Abit worried about the center pairing but sharks have a power bench so think they will take this one but not by much...

Sharks: 15 Louis Ludik, 14 JP Pietersen, 13 Stefan Terblanche (captain), 12 Patrick Lambie, 11 Lwazi Mvovo, 10 Steve Meyer, 9 Charl McLeod, 8 Ryan Kankowski, 7 Keegan Daniel, 6 Jacques Botes, 5 Ross Skeate, 4 Steven Sykes, 3 Wiehahn Herbst, 2 Craig Burden, 1 Patric Cilliers.
Replacements: 16 Kyle Cooper, 17 Tendai Mtawarira, 18 Eugene van Staden, 19 Willem Alberts, 20 Jean Deysel, 21 Ruan Pineaar, 22 Andries Strauss.

Sitting down to write my Cheetahs v Sharks preview now and must admit it is a tough one.

Like you Paul I am not convinced anout their midfield (no longer rate Terblanche and feel Lambie is out of position)but it looks a strong side.

One of those previews where sitting down to write it I have no idea yet how I am going to call it.

Stick 1 unit on the draw at 20/1 then BG  laughsmiley

Sharks/Cheetahs is the only one for me that could go either way. I am in the Cheetahs camp on Sportspicks, think it could be a game for high scoring affair with a prediction of Cheetahs 37 Sharks 36

Funny I was thinking of the draw and there is 28/1 at Betx

Previews up http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/rugby/c … tches.html

Joining you on the Bulls RB and surprised the handicaps have not shifted further.

Not so sure about points in Cheetahs game - you have to go back 7 matches to the last time these sides delivered more than 45 points.

Brent, I see you highlighted the -8.5 @ evens with World of Sport in your preview. There is still -7.5 @ 10/11 available at Voltbet. That's where I just placed 5 units on the Bulls.

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

Dont know if you guys get ITM cup in SA but hawkes Bay +9.5 v canterbury tonight looks great for mine. Canterbury have 7 players with the all blacks and about the same number injured. On paper there is now very little separating the teams:

Sean Maitland    15    Luke Rooney
Patrick Osborne    14     Richard Buckman
Ryan Crotty    13     Jason Shoemark (c)
Stephen Brett    12     Ryan McLeod
Tu Umaga-Marshall    11     Zac Guildford
Colin Slade    10     Daniel Kirkpatrick
Willi Heinz    9     Kahn Fotuali'I
Ash Parker    8     Michael Koman
G Whitelock(c)     7     Karl Lowe
Matt Todd    6     Trent Boswell-Wakefield
Isaac Ross    5     Ross Kennedy
Luke Romano    4     Bryn Evans
Pete Borlase    3     Clint Newlands
Steve Fualau    2     Hika Elliot
Wyatt Crockett.     1     Kas Lealamanua.

While the match is in christchurch, canterbury are notoriously slow starters and have lost their first game the last 2 seasons before going on to win both titles.

Go the Bay!

Well played there lads, sorry I missed out on that one.

I see WP gone 8/10 -26.5 with WSB - must say I expected the handicap to shift.

Time to look at the spreads, I see points and shirts quotes understandably high.

Could not resist a small spread in Griquas match - high Griqua shirts at 57.5 for half a unit

I really fancy WP tonight and have gone high on Sup at 2 units a pop at 31. Going to wait till half time to make my shirts move,

WP had me worried at one stage letting the Pumas to within 30 and 1 score of the handicap but best bet of the weekend arrived in the end and a decent spreads profit as well. A good start to the weekend!

I really love the way this WP team tackles - some serious defence there!

Re: Currie Cup & Tri Nations Week 4 betting thread

Great weekend for me on the rugby punting. Didn't have a punt on the Tri Nations test, but had bets on all the CC games and called them all correct. I ended up covering my Sharks bet (10 units at 2/1) with Cheetahs 12.5 units at 8/10 so only 7.5 units profit in that game.

My punting history suggest that I should not be betting this coming weekend. Past experiences have shown that after a good weekend I tend to give back a lot of the profits the next weekend. Looking forward to the caps though and if I see value I will strike. Come on bookies, don't make us wait so long! What happened to Mbet's early prices?
