The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

I cannot recall a Major where the worlds top players are so out of form. Tiger Woods ended T78 at the Bridgestone and event he had dominated previously - he looks likey to start around 12/1 but probably should be 40/1 at least.

Phil Mickelson appears to have frozen with the no 1 spot beckoning and his 78 last night was horrendous. He needs to find something for Whistling Straits to have a chance.

Els had a shocker as well and his putter seems to have gone walkabout while world no 3 Westwood won't even be playing due to injury.

On this evidence looking forther down the list is likely to be the answer this week.

A full preview will follow but I could not resist an early value play with Mbet.

I don't really fancy Hunter Mahan to go back to back but he is certainly hitting greens and fairways and is still 80/1 at Mbet who are already out with their betting. I have taken 1 unit a win and 2 units place (at 20/1) from a sheer value angle as he will probably start 40/1.

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Busy researching the golf and see Betxchange are offering 1/4 odds top 6 places. They have done this on the other majors and it is great for punters although for some reason I have struggled to get players into the Top 10 in the majors this season.

After last week feeling confident though and will even be throwing a 400/1 shot into the mix!

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

LOL here we go Wolf - http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/golf/us … eview.html

Found it hard to narrow things down this week, liked so many players

- Settled on:

Harrington 20/1
D Johnson 50/1
Overton 66/1
Kuchar 66/1
Davis 475/1

and of course Mahan 80/1 tipped on Monday (now 40/1)

I have also taken a 1 unit cover on McIlroy as I ended up having to choose between him and Harrington or go over the top from a budget perspective

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

There is definately a case to be made for Harrington and i have picked up on some calls going the way of Kuchar & Davis.I'm going a completely differant way though.
All in all i'm really just looking forward to watching as much as i can.So many underlying stories. Will Woods even make the cut,can Michelson keep it together, best chance for Goose & Ernie to add another Major in a long time, will we have a multi major winner this year, how bout Louis on that course??I bet Westwood is crying about missing this one!Anyhoo....
Ernie ELS  28/1
K.J CHOI  70/1
Stephen AMES  300/1
Fredrik JACOBSON  375/1
cool  Goodluck guys!

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

My dart board likes the look of:
Bubba @ 125/1, 1/4 odds top 6 at BetX - hits it long and fairly straight.
Dustin Johnson @ 50/1 - also long and think he is over his US Open stumble
Mahan - but abit short at 35/1 and not sure 2 weeks in a row.
Europens should fancy this course but cannot pick between Harington, Donald and Rory.

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

A bit odd looking for players who can handle them on link-style courses for a USPGA, but here we go, 10 units put down for this week, and a 600/1 shot!:

Martin Kaymer - 1.5 unit ew @ 50/1
Nick Watney - 1 unit ew @ 50/1
Ross Fisher - 1.25 unit ew @ 66/1
Brandt Snedeker - 0.5 unit ew @ 200/1
Bryce Molder - 0.5 unit ew @ 350/1
Troy Matteson - 0.25 unit ew @ 600/1

Enjoy it, should be fascinating to see how Woods gets on, might get involved in some of the Tiger markets.

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Taking the course and current form into consideration, of those more prominent in the betting I like Harrington. Win and Place (T5). I'm with you there Brent.

Was that half a million win or place on Lucky Dan....?

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Well it seems like we've got a pretty good spread this week- so one of us should at least be smiling come Monday morning... big_smile

I might have over done it, but from evryhting I've heard it seems like there's a real "Irish links" feel to this course. Thus I was seriously looking at the threesome of McDowell, Harrington and Rory. At the same time it was difficult for me to drop my usual US men like Dustin, O'Hair, Watney and usually one of the outsiders like Boo or Goydos. Ofcourse, if Ernie could just sort out his putting I really fancy him on this track, but I'll rather lose some cash and see him win than suffer the double heart ache! So here goes:

Dustin Johnson e/w
Sean O'Hair e/w
Graeme McDowell e/w
Rory McIlroy win only
Justin Leonard place
Ross McGowan (Top Englishman @ 45/1)

I did however include place bets on both Rory and Harrington in a few multiples with Eng Premiership football and currie cup rugby. Here's to hoping for a good sporting/betting weekend! Enjoy beersmiley

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Flying high in April, shot down in May...!

After a good weekend last weekend my men were poor out of the gates yesterday. A bad day all round, as I also couldn't even watch most of my players in action. O'Hair, McDowell, Leonard and McGowan all over par and need a seriously good second round (and in some cases rest of their first round) to get back into contention. I hope McIlroy and/or Dustin can make a move and get closer to the top of the leaderboard today.

Go Ernie!!

A mixed bag for me early doors but please guys if I ever tip Harrington again you have my permission to book me into a mental institution or the like - I never catch that guy right and have never enjoyed watching him play so betting on him makes no sense  tongue

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

A very interesting leaderboard for the Forum with Kuchar, Watney, McIlroy and Dustin Johnson right there.

Pleased to see Harrington making a comeback prior to play being suspended and I have not given up on Hunter Mahan just yet. He looks certain to make the cut and is a strong weekend player so I cannot resist the 80/1 for a top 5 at World of Sport - another 0.75 units down.

Hoping for a couple of late nights this week and loving this course - so much more exciting than a St Andrews for example and while there are birdies on offer the bad shots get punished.

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

i think that's a decent leaderboard strike-rate for the Forum at almost halfway! beersmiley  But still lots of golf to go, the fog is killing my sleep pattern, impossible to make it thru to end last 2 nights.

Agree Brent this course is awesome for tv viewing, some of those par 3's have unforgivable rough around green and also some punishing spots if a player misses the green, real risk and reward stuff on the par 5's and the couple of short par 4's.

Roll on tonight, I'm hoping Martin Kaymer can go strong in his R2 today, he's 2 under thru 6 and he looks in good nick. Good turnaround by Harrington, he had a shocker Thursday. Tiger still looking loose of the tee, his chipping keeping him in contention.

My man Kuchar appears to be feeling the pressure.

South 4 of your guys still in with a shout not least of which is Watney who leads by 2 at the moment.

Come on lets have the first 6 places reserved for the forum boys!

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Took a 5 unit play on MciLroy at 7/2 only for him to go 5/1 straight after  sad

Must say coverage is shocking we are seeing so much of whats happening much later than live - watching live text commentary (guys watching TV in the UK) and they are seeing things a good couple of minutes earlier most of the time.

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Right now I would take a couple of minutes behind Brent...! Problems with the feed and SS has no live coverage at the moment- shocking!

But it looks like it might be better not te watch the mayhem at all. Can't believe Watney pulled a Dustin and choked completely. I added some extra onto Dustin Johnson this morning, but seems like he's also slipping away (hang on for the place my boy!). Rory needs to stop mucking about and take the German down- NOW!! big_smile

I'm starting to get this sick feeling that my payout won't be anything substantial come tomorrow morning... hmm Come on lads, pull finger!

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

This is a classic - Supersport have a sign up - Final Round Coverage interupted by inclement weather - amazing how they are watching just fine in the UK.

Couch this is killing me (as is Dustins play) - we are missing a great tournament and I am all over twitter and Facebook demanding an explanation from Supersport - of course none coming.

The least they could do is updates from the overseas text commentary's.

Coverage back (for now) and what a finish - Bubba, Kaymer and Rory -11 with Elk and DJ -10 (DJ has missed too many short ones today) - this is anybody's tournament still!

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

What a finish - Bubba in at 11 the favourite at 11/10 (touched 5/10) but Kaymer with him playing 18 and DJ makes a remarkable birdie at 16 to join them - 17 and 18 are tough so Bubba a worthy favourite - one things for sure someone on the Forum will be celebrating soon.

What a tee shot by Johnson on 17 - come on lad hole a putt. Popgun here is hoping for a Johnson Bubba 1-2 (in that order)  beersmiley

I know I am pretty much talking to myself at this time of night but so exciting I have to do something between shots!

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Great par Kaymer on 18 to join Bubba at -11 on the range, he misses that and I would have basically guaranteed a profit by backing Bubba (although Rory could pull off a miracle second)

I could cry - poor putt from DJ and we have a 3 way playoff which I would have taken an hour ago but not 20 minutes back.

3 hole playoff now, I am not going to be much good at the office tomorrow.

Oh no Johnson grounded the club in the bunker - surley not!

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Woke up to all the drama this morning...! speechlesssmiley Thought Dustin was out of it when I went to bed and now I just feel sick. That would have been a fantastic payday had he been able to make it all the way- I hate bunkers!!

At least I added Kaymer to some multiples early during the last round, so if Man U comes to the party tonight (and Arsenal, Chelsea, NZ and Sri-Lanka during the week) then I could still make a decent profit.

The big loser of the weekend was definetely SuperSport! boxingsmiley

Thanks Mr Graham for the ball-by-ball commentary! lol

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Kaymer you beauty!! beersmiley

Cannot believe the finish last night, it was unreal, I should have kept laptop on and been on here as I was pacing between shots and think i was stressing more than Kaymer himself! speechlesssmiley

So stiff on DJ lads, was a tough and cruel call, they had the head of PGA rules explain it in full on UK coverage and in the end it sounded like they had no choice, but still, got to feel the pain for Johnson. And great from Bubba, he fought right to end, think Kaymer's calmness was just a bit more when counted.

Best finish to a major for a long time, so many players were in with a shout after my other pick Watney had a meltdown on 1st and then a 6 on the par 3.

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Nice one Southpaw. Congrats! Yes, sound like Kaymer kept his head well.  He does look like a man who can handled his nerves. I must say I do enjoy his game and often backed him earlier in the season in Europe. But didn't when it counted! sad

After continously swearing at myself during the third round for not sticking with Watney, it ended up being another one of South's picks that pipped me at the post. Good going South! beersmiley

Re: The US PGA Championship from Whistling Straits

Of course I could not go to bed after switching the laptop off and watched the rest of the drama unfold.

Well done Kaymer and South and also Popgun who I believe only had places so was relived Bubba did not win.

That par putt Kaymer nailed on 18 in regulation was amazing (and also cost me the chance to ensure a profit, too complicated to back multiple players but I could have laid 4/10 Dustin had I been overseas even with him getting in at -11)

Naturally I still feel disappointed with DJ but the reality is that the Tour had no choice given the rules and you would think that he should have at least consulted an official before grounding his club.

I am have come out on the wrong side this week but if anyone ever wants to know why I bet on sport (and golf) this is it - what drama, you could not have scripted it!

As an aside after getting Hunter at 50/1 last week I already had the two 50/1 shots in succession article all worked out in my mind for the site - sadly those words will never go to print LOL

What humour reading your post this morning BG. Had a LONG lunch and with the nagger a little frisky, turned in at about 9ish (I think smile)
Had Bubba and DJ for places only, so was chuffed to see Kaymer win - chuffed coz I only backed places and chuffed coz South had him e/w smile
Had DJ for places too but tied for 5th meant deadheat rules.
Saved a bad weekend for me and never expected golf to be my saviour smile

Yip Popgun it must have been around 9ish cause your Nagger confirmed she was fast alseep by 21h05   wink

Those dead heat rules are killers although Betx were top 6 this week which helped.

Looking forward to the Ryder Cup and the playoffs now!
