Sri Lanka in South Africa

Sri Lanka in South Africa

Kick off with a quick wrap of the test series correct score betting. SL look up against and have not won a test match here, players not paid, SA overdue a home series win etc.....

http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/cricket … eview.html

I'd go for a 2-0 win for the Proteas

Was that half a million win or place on Lucky Dan....?

Heard that the Sri Lankans will be getting half of what is owed to them this week
Stll fancy the Proteas to wipe the floor of them!
2-0 looks good mackem  big_smile

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

I think 2-0 looks about right mate, allow one draw for either / combo of stubborn SL resistance, bad weather or even if SA decide to experiment with team selection at some stage. I think that SA will want this badly though, hard to believe they have won so few test series lately with these players

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

I'm amazed this SA to win 2-0 price is still available @ 5/2 with Laddies, is less than 2/1 elsewhere, nice value. I'm finding it hard to make a case for Sri Lanka at Centurion and Kingsmead wickets, and unless weather plays a big part, 2-0 for me is a cracking bet, allowing for one very batsmen friendly wicket in CT.

Am on for 3 units.

Obviously a huge blow for SL if he misses out

1st test match preview with load of stats for Centurion. Proteas very strong here, nibble at Rudolph as top SA 1st innings bat.

http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/cricket … eview.html

Watch out Herath in SL bowling markets, if Proteas are dominant he could end up bowling a huge chunk of overs.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Hi Guys,

I have been following the forums from October and its really good stuff.
This morning I saw wsb has some interesting exotics out on the first test.
The one that caught my eye was the 1st innings Tahir v Herath both @ 9/10.
I am liking Herath on this one, following Mackem post said he should go through a load of overs and with Steyn and the Groundsman's comments yesterday about the pace and pitch I cannot see Tahir getting much 1st innings action.

Your thoughts?

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Welcome Pierrebal, I like that one, I think Sri Lanka will have all on to cope with pace and bounce so agree in the its innings we might not see much of Tahir.

In the warm up game against SA Invitational at Benoni, Herath bowled 24 of the 97 overs and finished with 3/58. the other spinner Mendis bowled 31 overs and his figures were 2/142. SL do not have as many options as SA do for pace so plenty of spin likely from them and based on how Herath performed at Benoni I would say he is likely to be very busy throughout the whole game.

Sangakkara quote from last week after Herath's performance "Spin has come to play a major part in all formats of the game, much more than ever before. If you are a good spinner you should know and be able to work on how to take wickets on pitches that don't assist you."

Good spot, plenty of logic behind this one.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Yip I like that one and will have a punt on Herath

Just a thought guys, if you fancy the 2-0 SA result but reckon the draw will come in the last test (Newlands) then you may be better off waiting as you will probably get 3/1 the draw in that match assuming SA have won the 1st 2.

Personally I think 3-0 SA is the call at around 18/10-2/1

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Hi Pieerebal,
Could'nt agree more there mate
As mackem has mentioned already, plenty of logic in that selection.
Comparing the two bowlers and knowing that Tahir was only used sparingly against the Aussies, it would'nt make sense for the Proteas to change that setup knowing that Sri Laka will most likely succumb to pace as opposed to spin.
Herath looks set to get more game time and with that, he will invetably get more opportunities to strike with the ball....well spotted!

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Centurion Park is withut a doubt a happy hunting ground for pace bowlers
Green pitch expected so there will be plnenty of bite.
Stats strongly point towards Steyn and Morkel here:
Here is a snippet from cricket365:
"South Africa's seamers have enjoyed their visits to SuperSport Park, with Dale Steyn in particular excelling - he averages 19.00 here, which is a full four points below his phenomenal overall average. His partner in crime Morne Morkel can just about match that, having taken 16 wickets in three Tests at his home ground"
If you are keen on other markets then perhaps you may find the following info useful as well  smile
"Jacques Kallis has an astonishing record at the ground, having played in all but one of the 16 Tests that Centurion has hosted. In that time he's amassed over 1,200 runs at an average of 72.70, and his 31 wickets have come at a highly respectable 26.38.
The other batsmen obviously can't match that longevity, but Hashim Amla averages 94.66 from his five Tests here, while Ashwell Prince hit his highest Test score (162 not out against Bangladesh) at the ground and has an overall average of 67.75 in eight Centurion Tests"

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Hey guys,

Here are my pre-game selections.

a) 3 points   1st Test Fall of 1st Sri Lanka wicket  Under +27.5 1.83

b) 2 points  1st Test Batsman 1st Inns Match Bet 1  G Smith -0.5  1.83

c) 3 points 1st Test Batsman 1st Inns Match Bet 4  J Kallis -2.5  1.83

d)3 points 1st Test To score 50 (1st innings) - T Dilshan  No  1.44

e) 3 points  1st Test To score 50 (1st innings) - M Jayawardene  No  1.53

f) 2 points T Dilshan - 1st innings runs  Under +28.5 1.83

g) 2 points - 1st Test M Jayawardene - 1st innings runs  Under +32.5 1.83

h) 2 points 1st Test Highest 1st inns opening partnership  South Africa -3.5  1.83

All things considered I'm hoping SA win the toss and get the job done early. Even if they don't I'm expecting a 1.01 train.

Added Steyn over 122 3 points bet365 player performance.

Great win for SA, but not ideal for the cash-tills at Centurion park, plus a load of ticket refunds to come for test finishing under 3 days. Hopefully SL make it more of a contest in Durbs, I'd say on the performance the 3-0 whitewash looks a good thing, I'm on 2-0 so a bit worried there.

PB don't be despondent about this one it was a really stiff outcome. Your logic was spot on and I took the 9/10 after seeing your post as it should probably have been 7/10 11/10 or even 6/10 12/10 - if you keep on backing 9/10 shots like this one you will do ok in this game.

Tahir 6 overs in the 1st innings - Herath 23 and at worst we would have expected money back - thats the way punting rolls sometimes and it was just one of those things.

As for the test itself a great win for the Proteas and those on my mailing list will know I took the 3-0 at 21/20 with Volt. Can't see that being much bigger than 12/10 now and just hope the weather holds in Durban.

Thanks Brent, its the way it goes.
I recall a dropped catch and although I did enjoy the Tahir celebrations again there was a fair amount of luck in that dismissal as well.  I went for the 3-0 series win and will wait to see how that one turns out, Sri Lanka isn't gonna get much better.

cheers

Yes 3-0 looking likely on that evidence, really disappointed in SL even though they were always going to be up against it in this series it was really poor from the likes of Dilshan, Sanga and Mahela. Going to have to look hard to find a bet at a decent price for Durban

Taking Fall of 2nd wicket U40,5 at WSB 5/6. Looking overcast, definitely swing around this morning and the pitch will also help the bowlers with the rain that was in the air. South Africa will definitely know how important it is to strike early. Sangakkara also has struggled, not even getting beyond 5 runs in his 3 innings in South Africa.

I'd say despite his bowling figures, one of the SL centurions will get the MoM given position of match. Gutted, but a good run on him nonetheless.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

What a shocking performance by the Proteas and the bookies must have cleaned up with the 2-0 and 3-0 series results well backed upfront.

As poor as the showing was the Kingsmead groundsman needs to be shown the door - how you can prepare a low flat track that takes trun when the home team requires fast and bouncy tracks is beyond me.

A number of players not performing and the problem is dropping all of them would be a sign of panic but in my view:

Rudolph has been given ample chances at this level - openers need to kick on and make big scores
Kallis needs to go back to playing like he used to - T20 cricket is ruining his test average - too good to drop but must catch a wake up.
Prince - for me never been better than average - please bring a youngster in
De Villers - needs to focus as he did in the 2nd innings - that shot in the 1st was a disgrace
Boucher - no longer the reliable man for a crisis and if anyone is knocking on the door it may be time to let them in
Tahir - this is test cricket, he needs to step up

We have some great bowling depth and De Lange certainly looks a prospect.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Okay lads lets try and get this cricket thing going for 2012...

AB is in solid form and the new ball has done a bit of late thus he gets my nod as top SA 1st innings bat @ 9/2. For the same reason I like Samraweera @ 5/1 for Sri Lanka, though I also believe Jaywardene could come off in this test and I might do a spread buy on him. I fancy Kallis to come back strong and have also added him as a MoM bet @ 8/1. Another bet I like is Welegedara top Sri L 1st Inns bowler at 28/10.

A chance of some light showers today but forcast for the rest of the test looks good so hopefully SA can seal the series, but the odds of 5/10 is way too short. Might take some in-running bets rather.

Come on the Proteas!!!

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Hey guys,

Great Preview with India on the plus Brent, I expect it to come in with a few to spare smile

I also really like SA on the -80.5. I am expecting the boys to bounce back hard on this one, however the 5-10 for the win is too short as couch pointed out so I will be taking the 1st innings handicap instead.

4 units SA -80.5 with sportingbet 10-11
2 units double: SA -80.5 and india plus 39.5 @ 3.64-1

Lastly I know you guys have pointed out AB but I prefer Amla. To me he looked even more comfortable than what AB did and he is due a 100. His record is also better at newlands what what AB's is.

2 units Amla @ 3.5-1.

Looking forward to having some decent cricket on again! smile

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Hey guys,

In a rush so do not want to start another topic so will just post here if you guys do not mind!

The windies T20 gets off tonight and albeit very short for a t20 championship I have still taken a fairly large bet on T&T at 16-10. There side is miles ahead of anyone else and I think it is good value.

Just look at this squad: S Badree, AB Barath, DJ Bravo, DM Bravo, K Cooper, RR Emrit, JC Guillen, JN Mohammed, SP Narine, KA Pollard, D Ramdin*†, R Rampaul, LMP Simmons

I dont think that a rest of West Indies side would beat these okes.

Their first game against Windwall Islands they are 7-10 to hit more sixes.. This price is absolutely ridiculous! It should be 2-10 or 3-10 Max..

I have jumped on for a 15 unit punt. My normal max is 10 units but this is way too good to pass up!

15 units T&T more sixes @ 7-10 Betxchange!

Hey Machem,

Thanks bud! I am in total shock they got rolled, never had money on but something must have been wrong with that pitch batting second! That must have been the strongest T&T side that has ever played! I will keep an eye on their next few fixtures as I think if price is 6-10 or 7-10 again I will do 15 units again.

Simmons, Pollard, both Bravos, Barath and Cooper are all natural six hitters. I will be keeping an eye on the windies T20 tourny always fun following! I have been following the Big Bash and been good fun. Nice to see herschelle ending his career off in style and Gayle just being Gayle!

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

I like the handicap for tomorrow's game, +3,5/30,5 runs WSB 5/6. Sri Lanka is a far better prospect in the ODI's than the test. Must remember that they are World Cup finalist last year with a very similar line up. And if there is one ODI that will suite them it is tomorrow's one in Paarl, where the wicket is normally a bit low and slow. Ideal conditions for them. Believe that Malinga will make a major difference tomorrow, and giving Mendis a start on this wicket will also do wonders. They have really improved since the first test, and hopefully can give SA a run for their money tomorrow.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Good stuff King! Full agree with that bet! Lets hope SA but first as I always think the handi is easier for the underdog to achieve on runs than wickets!

Again T&T playing tonight and are 7-10 to hit more sixes! After their shock defeat the other night (still hit more sixes), I am looking for a convincing win and with their natural six hitters I think it will come in in style!

As I did the last game I am going bigger than my natural MAX 10 units as I really feel this is too good to pass up.
15 Units T&T more sixes 7-10 betX.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Going to have a go at the following:

Top SA batsman for the series AB de Villiers

AB has been the most consistent batsman in SA at the moment. Top the chart for the test series and expect this to continue. What really made up my mind is the fact that Malinga is playing for the Sri Lanka. This means the top order is in for a more difficult time than in the test series. Consider  the unpredictable form of Smith and Kallis, AB is deemed for some good batting time to steady the ship and rotate the strike, which is what he is good at. His stats also shows that he has a decent strike rate and good battle average.

Top SA bowler series: D Steyn - nothing else to say here.

Top Sri Lanka bowler series: Malinga

Malinga had a really good series against Australia at downunder, but not so good against Pakistan. If Sri Lanka wants to have a chance of winning, Malinga has to be on top form, which I think will be the case.

All really good shout!

Good luck!

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Fearless I also believe T&T have a strong team and will have a flutter on your most sixes bet as well. However you have to keep in mind that when a strong team plays a rather weak one there is the chance that T&T could for example only have to chase 110 odd and then they could play things safe and not hit a single six... In 20-20 cricket I don't think these odds will ever be less than 5/10 because of the above mentioned.

I went for Kallis as MoM so that runout will surely cost me!! boxingsmiley

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Yes that is true about the 6s Couch good point, about the price.

However with this T&T side even if batting second I am confident that they will always win the 6s. All their batsmen are natural six hitters. If you look at their stats in ratio of 4s vs 6s. Unlucky about kalllis! He was looking good! Perhaps a fifer will win it back smile

You should treat yourself to a trip to Trini Carnival with the profits you are rocking up on their six hitting Fearless  wink

Just on the same theme, I know 20 overs of Dilshan can torpedo this or if Proteas find themselves chasing a tiny total but SA to hit most sixes in the second ODI on Saturday (9/10 Voltbet) looks worth a go?

5 6's is the target for Proteas, not a big ground but a danger they may get on top and cruise

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

That Six now from Amla was incredible! Hope Smith goes out ASAP as hes not really a big six hitter! Hope Kallis is in a dominant mood today and gets it over without too much stress! Amla and Smith early now would not be a bad thing.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Two great hits by Amla but things not looking too rosy for us. Smith needs to have a go at the spinners and try and hit himself out of his rut- but in his scratchy form he probably can't even clear these short boundaries... Even if Smith does get out I think with SA ahead of the rate Kallis will just cruise to a nice "not out". We need AB to come in and look to finish things quickly!

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

I think Kallis will still target the spinners. He has shown lately even when our backs have been slightly against the wall that he has a go early on to the spinners. But if Smith doesnt get out we will lose. He really is my most hated South African cricketer of all time! About time we give Ingram, Elgar (injured at the moment), or Peterson the chance in ODIS.

This dead wood needs to go!

I see we got rolled 4-3 on the sixes despite the 5 wicket win for SA. Still think it was the right call to make, just not our day

Third ODI, Bloem on Tuesday....preview below

http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/cricket … eview.html

Although JP Duminy's promotion to #4 might not have done our 6's bet any favours, it worked for SA. Bear in mind no Kallis and Amla here and the 5/1 for Dums to be top SA bat looks OK to me, especially if he comes in ahead of AB again. If that works I would kick myself for not including him in MoM at 16's as well. Also think Malinga to take over 1.5 wickets looks decent.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

On SL under 260.5 runs in running. Known to be a low scoring venue, hopefully that will ring no surprise today.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Well done Chirs on the over 1.5 wickets for Malinga! Time for AB to put in a massive performance. ALso really tempted to take SA now at 2.8. We all know Smith would be gone early, but can still rely on Peterson, AB or JP to have a good knock and it will turn out to be close. Remember there is no Fernado for SL today!

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

I've been stocking up SA to win in running- thought Duminy would take them to the end with Faf looking to take advantage of the powerplay. Also went with Duminy as MoM and thought he still had a good chance in that market as well... Damn Ump!!! boxingsmiley

All hope on AB now.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Couch, we still got hope here. As long as Malinga doesn't do much damage, they can just pick on the other bowlers to score the runs! If you have a price of 2.8 on a team like SA right now, you know it will hit at least 40% of the time.

Let's hope AB can have a Kaptain's knock!

Couch, this might be our day! D/L working my way for the first time!

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Keep raining please!! Can't think that I've ever been glad to not be wathcing cricket... big_smile In all honesty though needing 88 of 96 SA should be walking it- bookies weren't giving Albie Morkel and Robbie P much respect. I suppose they were keeping the Malinga finish factor in mind but still with AB at the wicket SA should comfortably be favourites.

Quick preview of the fourth ODI on Friday, going Sanga as top SL bat and also looking for any batsman to score a century.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

chancing my arm at a spreads play here - High Total Sixes @ 6. Feel it should be a good wicket for batsmen and with the series wrapped up there should hopefully be some free-hitting allowed more than usual. Sri Lankan batsmen hitting some form at last also helps.

Will revisit position at half-way point.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

SL at 3.5 in-running? Definitely worth a shout at that price! Stats is with the team batting 2nd and this is actually a 50/50 call match! D/L might even come into play again smile

South, I see already one 6 for Petersen!

Also on Smith getting a 50 @ 1.2!

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Not a very smart move form the bookies to offer SL at 3.5. The price even went to as high as 6. Now, just managed to hedge out my position to guarantee 2.5. Good business smile

Pretty unlucky for you Chris that De Villiers didnt get his 100.

Nice work on SL in play guys and the sixes South, short boundarys, an inspired call. I hit the post with the century to be scored bet, AB been out in the 90's quite a few times if memory serves.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

shot lads, hit the max on the sixes with the last one that won the match.  big_smile   But them gave almost half back on the rugby last night.  neutral

Mackem stiff on AB, so unlucky. The cricinfo guys posted a stat after he fell - has been out in the nineties 8 times, which gives him a conversion of 90's to 100's of just 67%. Surprising as he always looks so confident.

I reckon we could be in for more big hitting on Sunday, but would like to see Albie back in side - SA tail looked a touch long for my liking.

faf cost me big getting out a few overs after placing bet. To recover some units gone high AB runs at 48 for 1.5 units.

What a way to end the series for me. SA runs finished with 156 unit profit and AB runs also yielded a good profit. Total cricket spreads returned over 200 units back.

well done DT and all others who made profit on what turned out to be quite an entertaining series in parts. Thanks to mackem for all the coverage.

Ya, south. Surely you also made some profit from this series?

Loving Kirsten for resting Kallis and Amla during the series! It really helped me to cash in the bet on de villiers top scorer!

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Was at the game yesterday with the family and glad the kids could experience such a thrilling finish - not sure if it showed up on TV but there was a time when it looked like rain would intereven again - had a small nibble on Sri Lanka at 9/10 at that point as they were well clear on D/L.

The rain went and Sri Lanka nearly blew it and frankly I would not have minded losing the bet to see the crowd go mad. A seriously late night and a seriosly grumpy mom and kids this morning (we must have parked about 3km away as well)

Cheers for the coverage Mackem, Sri Lanka hopeless at times also had moments of brilliance and Proteas must be concerned at having 300 chased down twice in succession.

Re: Sri Lanka in South Africa

Shot Brent, was a strange tour, still cant believe Sri Lanka won a test match, ODI's were hit and miss.

Interesting times for Proteas, , Im not sure New Zealand away will be straight forward and then the tour of England which will be a cracker
