Australian Open Tennis Thread

Australian Open Tennis Thread

The 1st Grand Slam of the year starts tomorrow and Djokovic is 13/10 to continue his 2011 dominance. Must admit I was going to have a go at Murray who is 11/2 but while in good form he has a really tough draw culminating in Djoker in the semi's. Federer and Nadal both have question marks hanging over them and if an outsider makes a run to the final he will most likely come from their half of the draw. teh fed is 7/2 and Nadal 6/1.

Think I am going to sit tight for now but look forward to seeing some thoughts on the outright and hopefully some match picks as well.

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

Hi Brent,

Not a big tennis punter myself but I like the early signs from the new Murray / Ivan Lendl coaching partnership, and despite a tough looking draw, will take my chances on Murray, who's been beaten in the final the last 2 years. Going Murray win @ 6/1 with Betxchange, 2 units, to keep an interest in tournament.

Looking forward to reading thoughts of the guys who punt tennis on regular basis.

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

Nice one RB. I've done zero analysis into below, just taking 4 of the most backed 1st round matches and sticking into an acca -

Bernard Tomic vs  Fernando Verdasco
Bernard Tomic @ 5/10

Carlos Berlocq vs  Jesse Huta Galung
Jesse Huta Galung @ 1/1

Florent Serra vs  Steve Darcis
Florent Serra @ 11/20

Ivan Ljubicic vs  Lukas Lacko
Lukas Lacko @ 1/1

acca works out to around 9/1.

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

I'm going with Melzer to beat Karlovic. Melzer record against Karlovic is astonishing with 5 wins to zero, without a set dropped. Odds are short, but worth taking at 5/10 with betx.

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

Hard luck Southpaw with only Jesse Huta Galung losing in your acca! I lost on Karlovic, but manage to be on profit after Kavkic win. I got 9/10 for Tsonga against Istomin on Friday. Betx since broad it down to 1/10. Will be looking for value in tommorow's games.

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

Anyone on Young tomorrow?

Anyone know where I can play handicap tennis besides sportingbet?

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

Youngs looks a good pic at 9/10. Young is 42th in world rankings and Lacko is 119th. Both won their 1st round matches in 5 sets. If we look at the 2 players form, Young went out to Falla in 1st round at ATP Auckland last week. Lacko already won 3 qualifiers for Aus Open and Lubjicic who has not played much tennis in 2012, but it was still a 5 set match. I don't know much more about Lacko. The only encounter between Young and Lacko ended in favour of Young at the U.S. Open of last year 6-4 6-2 6-4. Thinking about small punt on Young.

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

I am taking on Tomic today! I reckon he is very over-rated, played a 4 hour 5 set marathon opening match against Verdasco in the heat. Querrey took an hour and a half to sail through his first match and is not a bad player. Querrey's highest ranking was 17th in Jan 2011. He has just come back from a back injury and is worth a stab at these odds.

1 unit on Sam Querrey at 22/10 at Volt

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

Good call against Tomic so far, but I still think he will pull it through. Really impressed with him. Might consider to hedge smile

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

With you on Tomic, but don't you think its better to play -1.5 if you think he is going to win?

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

The Big 4 roll into the semi's and we should be in for a couple of belters.

South like you I fancy this could be Murray's breakthrough tournament - I was originally lining up a bet but was a bit put off by the draw. The result is I will take a shorter price and will back him at 9/2 for the win. I may also have a punt on him to beat Djoker at 18/10.

Andy Murray it is your time!

1.5 units Murray/Djoker at 21/10 - like the way he is playing, for me Djoker not quite at his best

Re: Australian Open Tennis Thread

Hopefully Ivan Lendl can inspire Murray today
Djokovic suffered a bit in terms of his breathing as well as a few strains during the Ferrer clash, if Murray plays a similar game style to that then I think he will have the measure of his opponent today.
Cannot argue with that logic Brent
2/1 a smashing price all things considered
