Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

6 Nations action moves swiftly into week 2, with England hoping to continue winning ways at Italy, France looking to put away the Irish in Paris, and Scotland will be trying to get a win against an impressive Wales side in Cardiff.

Was a fair bit of disappointment on Sunday following Ireland's loss to the Welsh, had really fancied them as did a few others. Brent has done a outright betting update -  http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/interna … pdate.html

Previews for this weekends 3 games to follow later this week. All thoughts welcome as always.

Next up, big thanks to Simon Emery who takes a look at France v Ireland on Saturday.....

http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/interna … eview.html

Simon goes 5 Units France – 8.5 points and 1.5 units each on France winning by 11-15 and 16-20 pts

Was that half a million win or place on Lucky Dan....?

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

Initial wkend thoughts are as follows, Italy +8 has to be worth backing given the stadium, England being average and Italys competitiveness at home.

Finding France Ireland hard to call, Ireland prefer the backs to the wall situation where they are underdogs rather than favourites (ie last weekend) so I can see them coming out fighting. Wales did well against Ireland on the ground as they had two genuine 7s, neither team in this game has a genuine 7. Wales also prospered thanks to their very large backline running straight and hard, in particular Roberts and North, Fofana is about 90kg and Medard and Clerc are not big so I dont think France will gain ground as easily as Wales did. Having said all that France have a supremely talented side and if Ireland do not up their intensity and aggression and kick better tactically they could get spanked. Might look at betting in running after 5-10 mins on that one. If Ireland get hammered in the first half I would take them on a plus for the second half as France often take their foot off the gas in the second and Ireland have come back in the 2nd half in Paris in the past to make things respectable.

Wales Scotland is hard to call as I know very little about Laidlaw, perhaps another member can shed some light? I think I will take Wales though as they are riding the crest of a wave and Euan Murray is not playing cause its a Sunday.

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

ilbor, euen murray is shite, so no worries there.ireland should have beat that welsh side comfortably....but for kidney telling them to do STUPID things.laidlaw is pretty good, questionable kicking, infinitely better than parks, can pass.

Backing all the club games, and only backing italy in the 6 nations game on the outright, big bet, to win tomorrow.at 7/2. That england side wont know what hit them

Would fancy scots to stay in the cap at least, maybe even create an upset. and win...gonna wait for weather.

but a nice double ive been looking at is wales and france 1-12 points.

Hi GM,

Interesting, from your post it seems you don't rate the Welsh at all, can't understand why. Why don't you rate them? That Italy bet is tempting but I think ill just take them at +8 evens, looks like a great bet to me.

Might have a nibble on North anytime tryscorer 7/5.

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

I took italy earlier in the week.Looking at the team news i am nt surprised that england named an unchanged team as they will need to gel more this week as they were very average last week as the scots were wasteful. As said in the preview the italians are very competitive at home and losses are rarely over 10pts.The last 2 games in italy would have seen Italy beat the cap and my thinking is that this eng team is weaker than those previous two visits and taking italy into consideration i think the start for italy is worth supporting.Got 5 units on italy+9.5

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

nice one lads, good to see most alligned on the Italy +9.5, which still feels a point or 2 too big in my opinion, mostly +6.5 or \+7 in UK.

Been raining a lot in Rome last few days, they've had the covers on pitch.

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

Yip loving the +9.5, also reading on twitter snowing in Rome, think this will only help the Italians. Also thinking of selling shirts, let's be honest England are the most unimaginative side around at moment, can't even remember them creating a chance last week.

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

Finally off the mark with the italy game.Never watched much of the game but once again whether they deserved it or not england found a way to win,but the italy cap was never in doubt.I am on the scots side today.I think that they played some pretty decent rugby last week and on another day could have won easily,as i said before.Wales showed great temperament last week and gutsed out a good victory. History is on the scots side with 3 of the last 4 visits to wales resulting in losses of less than 13pts and the other was 15pts.Those were average scot teams and with this being the best i have seen in a while i fancy them to keep the score decent.I respect wales but was so impressed by the scots that i had to take the +13.5 startgot 5 units on scots +13.5

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

on +13.5 and a speculative Wales by 6-10

But I agree that the closed roof helps Wales running rugby a lot, but Warburton is a big blow in my opinion.

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

Scotland playing well but as usual struGgle to break line and lack composure when they do - needless to say I am doing a small fortune on this one

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

Classic Scotland - start with a penalty, seem ok for a bit, lose some points and compltely fall apart. Evr year I say Scotland looks like they have potential for the next year, but they continually fail to deliver.

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

Yeah. The scots miss the cap by 1 point and it could have been so different had they scored that try just before half time.Anyway wales took their chances and should be applauded for that.A 1-1 record for the weekend but still 1 -3  for the year so far meaning a loss of 10.5 units.Still a long year ahead and in two weeks time 7 super rugby and 3 six nations games to bet on.CANT WAIT.

Re: Six Nations rugby - week 2 matches

Small turnaround in fortunes for me in the Wales game. i decided to close Scotland points for a 5 point or 10 unit loss (this actually cost me 2 units in the end) and in a reckless move I took another unit of Welsh shirts at 18.

They scored 3 tries in 20 minutes and one more high number would have seen me well up on the weekend. They somehow failed to get one though and I also fell half a point short of Wales more than 27.5.

Overall then a smallish win which while I feel it should have been bigger going into the final 20 I would have grabbed and run if offered it at half time.
