England v Pakistan

England v Pakistan

First of 4 tests starts on Thursday at Trent Bridge, a ground which usually provides a result.

I'm banking on conditions suiting bowlers in which case I like the look of the swing bowlers in the man of the match market. Mohammed Aamer is 14/1 and is my pick though still toying with backing a English bowler in the same market.

Preview and some betting on the link below and thoughts from anyone playing this series are most welcome.

Re: England v Pakistan

I backed the wrong English bowler, Jimmy Anderson cleaning up for England and surely MoM, I added Broad with my original pick Aamer.

Pakistan batting line up is feeble, why no Younis Khan?

Re: England v Pakistan

Not to worry Mackem. I was also behind Broad... But what a performance from Jimbo.  beersmiley

I see that Pakistan have recalled Yousuf Mohammed to the squad and dropped Kaneria. As far as I know Younis Khan has hang up his International cricket boots. If Yousuf plays in the next test it should bolster the batting line up but not sure how much game time he has had in the last year or so.

Re: England v Pakistan

Cheers Justin, Yousuf can only help the situation as Pakistan have shown they can be competitive with these bowlers if only they sort the batting out. Will have a look for second test and see if anything stands out. Seems a shame to have good batsmen back home whilst some of these guys look well out of their depth.

2nd test preview below. starts Friday 6th August

http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/cricket … eview.html

Yousuf is still sorting his Visa out Justin but could but there in time. I'm going with Jimmy to continue his dominance over Pakistan batting. (Cue a Stuart Broad double digit wicket haul  wink  )

Re: England v Pakistan

Ah man, forgot about the 2nd test and missed most of the markets available....   hmm

I see Kamran Akmal was dropped and a newbie to make his debut & Yousuf misses out because he is tired...? Anyways, I really like the poms to give the pakkies another snot-klap here but the odds aren't great. Best I have seen is 6/10 but going to take it anyways and add it into a multiple.

Going to take a gamble on S Broad for MoM @ 12/1 with WSB. This is the same venue when he got those insane bowling figures in the County Champs (8 wickets for 40 odd...).

Re: England v Pakistan

Was always going to be tough with all the cloud cover but as you say South, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat! Easy to say after the event but they just dont seem to know what they are supposed to be doing.

Need Pakistan bowlers to restrict big totals from England batsmen and one of us should be in for MoM after Broad and Anderson got 4 each Justin.

Re: England v Pakistan

Man alive. Pakistan all out for 72 and England only use 3 bowlers.... At least Broad got 4 wickets (so did Anderson) and is still in with a chance for MoM.

Men against boys mate.

All the best with the MoM punt, I'm convinced that is the best value market in cricket

England coast home with ease...

Rather miffed with Stuart Broad though. Threw his MoM chances away yesterday when he reverted back to his childhood days and threw the cricket ball at a Pakistan batsman.  boxingsmiley  What a dumbass!?!

This MoM bet is definately a great bet Mackem. It offers awesome value.

Re: England v Pakistan

actually thought of your Broad punt Justin after he threw his toys out the cot, as to me he had a great chance of getting the MoM as it was only bowlers in the running for it. Will take a look at this market for next test, could be interesting.

Re: England v Pakistan

Stiff Justin, I reckon Broad was in poll position and that incident cost him.

MoM markets look like 10/1 the field, if you take the view that bowlers will dominate a particular test after looking at stats and likely conditions then England bowlers are a good bet. Since Freddie Flintoff hung up his boots there is no genuine all rounder. Broad, Anderson and Swann are your options (early days for Finn).

For the Proteas matches, you have Steyn and Morne Morkel, I don't see Harris running through many teams, Botha is perhaps a bigger danger but you have the Kallis factor, runs, a couple of wickets and catches (though this theory on Kallis is logical and does not apply in the West Indies  wink   )

If you think batsmen will dominate, the price for a batsmen to be MoM is approx 2.5 times the price for him to be top bat in the first innings markets. Not quite as attractive as there are more guys capable of scoring big but you can usually rule out one or two, i.e. Alistair Cook is having a nightmare right now.

First base is weighing up whether bowlers are likely to dominate batsmen. Will have another go and see if we can land one, small stakes at those prices so cant get hurt

3rd Test Preview, starts Wednesday at the Oval.

http://www.goodforthegame.co.za/cricket … eview.html

Thinking the batsman may get a break here, going with Mohammad Yousuf for top Pakistan bat bat (1st innings)

For the elusive MoM punt, Jonanthan Trott is top run scorer in the series so far and he had a great match in the Ashes at the Oval last year. 12/1 is the price.

Farcical end to test series with the tabloid sting with regards to spot betting scandals on Pakistan no-balls during test. It looks damning evidence.  boxingsmiley

Read about this South, News of the World usually spot on with their sting operations, will follow the fall out with interest but how sad young Amir is one of the guys fingered. Great prospct and if he has been up to no good it will be a huge waste of talent.

Re: England v Pakistan

Have a look on youtube for the size of Aamir's no ball - MASSIVE!  His reaction also seems to me to give the game away - of course neither go anyway towards constituting evidence.  I lost money on the Pakis in the Sydney test - I see that has come under the spotlight again.

Re: England v Pakistan

I know they have to investigate, innocent until proven guilty etc.. but having seen what the News of the World put up, I think Pakistan should be suspended immediately whilst the ICC's anti corruption guys perform their duties. Latest reports suggest they want to play the ODI series, I dont think that would be right.

Still huge interest in this and believe Brent will be appearing on enews shortly.

It would appear the tour will go on though I cant see the four players at the centre of this taking any part.

In fact BG appeared about 2 mins after my post.

Very well handled Brent, must be alot more difficult to talk about a sensitive subject such as fixing than it is running through your pick for a bet on an individiual game.

Re: England v Pakistan

“Match-fixer pockets 150k as he rigs the England test”?
I think this is simply a sensational headline from someone that knows nothing about betting.
The match as such was not fixed.
The real allegation is about fixing spot bets.
Do they seriously want me to believe that you can put a massive bet on the fact that bowler X will bowl a no ball in the 3rd delivery of his 2nd over? (and get settled?)

Ignorance does not kill you, it just makes you sweat a lot.

Re: England v Pakistan

Agree it is hard to believe but these days (and in particular in India) you can bet on every ball, still it is hard to get your head around the figures involved.

While the England match may not have been fixed this guy seems to have at least 3 players on his payroll so the idea that previous matches especially T20 and 1 dayers could have been fixed is not that unlikley.

Interesting interview on E- news this morning - this scandal has certainly caught the worlds attention but does no good to the genuine punters and bookies out there.

T20 today with England 9/20 and Pakistan 16/10.

I wont be having a bet but quite interested in watching to see what sort of recpetion Pakistan get from the crowd. I still think its wrong that this tour continued, News of the World ran a follow up today I understand.

Re: England v Pakistan

I hope your right Saffer, must be a weird atmosphere in the Pakistan camp. Suppose some of this side are guilty of the allegations and some are not guilty, how do the good guys focus on playing alongside teammates who have sold their country out.  Also must be strange for England as well.

See you collected comfortably enough once Morgan and Yardy took control Saffer. How was Shoaib ! bowled like a demon, fielded like a child, he is carrying plenty of timber these days.

Re: England v Pakistan

cheers Mackem - yip the Poms were in massive trouble at 5 down (fortunately I was fast asleep otherwise i would have been concerned!)  Not going for the double today.  Odds on England now very short.  Also they say there is going to be rain about and a shortened game would suit the Pakis better I think

Re: England v Pakistan

England 1/3 to win first ODI on Friday, more news coming through that fast bowler Riaz will be the next taken in for questioning and the ICC had sent "notices" to Butt and Kamran Akmal after the T20 World Cup. What they mean by "notices" is unclear to me.

Forgive me if I swerve previewing the Eng v Pak ODi's, I have little enthusisam after all this, will throw more time into the T20 CL instead

Re: England v Pakistan

absolutely agree - I wouldn't pay to watch any of those games if I was in the UK. Couldn't help but put a punt on England to win the series though, reckon it's a banker.  Amazing to see that William Hill in th T20s offered odds on either team bowling a no ball in the game and also what the 1st ball of each innings would result in (including 1/17 for a no-ball).. I mean if William Hill offer odds on these novelty bets what chance is there?  Crazy

Re: England v Pakistan

call me mad but I give Pakistan a chance today, nothing to loose, bad apples out the squad and England must have a lot of mixed emotions at the moment (I know Pakistan might also have same). Nor sure it's enough for me to get on the 9/4 Pakistan, but am tempted.  speechlesssmiley

Play delayed by the look of it mate, Mackem Collingwood's home ground, was tempted to go for him as top England bat but he is been in poor nick.

greatodds have 20/1 for firts ball of innings wide - and guess what , shoaib bowls a wide , could have smelled it from a mile away.I'm sure if you take that bet in every game the paki's are involved you'll call it more than 1 / 20 times.

Hmm true that's not going to help matters wouter!

Solid start for England, 6 an over, Shoaib looking great though with the ball.

I see they are having a look at the 3rd ODI now, The Sun newspaper had passed on advance info regarding scoring patterns that were very similar to those that actually panned out. No end to this mess it seems.

Re: England v Pakistan

Listening to the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board on Sky News now throwing allegations that England threw last Friday's ODI for heaps of money. Put up evidence or keep it zipped is my thought but it adds another twist and perhaps bad feeling to today's ODI.

England 4/111, Pakistan 2/1

GreatOdds Handicap
England -3.5 Wickets/25.5 Runs, 10/11
Pakistan +3.5 Wickets/25.5 Runs, 4/5

Re: England v Pakistan

Butt has made a complete arse of himself.

He does not have proof but he heard the bookies talking about it - good one mate coming out on global television and making accusations based on something you have heard.

Next question - what on earth is the head of Pakistani cricket doing talking to bookies or for that matter people who talk to bookies (I assume he is referring to underground bookies once again)?

I have lost all enthusiasm for ODI and T20 cricket - its Test Matches or nothing for me now

Re: England v Pakistan

some of the Pakistani officials only know how to make a bad problem worse. Cannot wait for this tour to end, and I expect there to be a fair bit of niggle (for cricket) in the decider, starting to feel personal now for some of the England guys.

Re: England v Pakistan

Have to agree guys. These Pakistani officials are only making themselfs look like idiots. (Actually reminds me a bit of PVD....and his comments in Australia!).

South, this is definately going to cause some personal issues between the players. Reckon the final game could be a hum-dinger if there are a few words thrown around...

Brent, was thinking along the same lines in terms of betting. Tests may be the way to go and maybe a few selected ODI series involving SA or Aus...
