The buying money thread!
Ok with no shirts numbers experiment on the go I have to try something!
In this thread I am going to take R1000 (real money) and try to back virtual certs at very short prices until I have doubled my money or lost it all.
I will be selective about the bets I take and will not play anything at bigger than 1/4.
I missed the price but first bet is 30/1000 New Zealand for the Tri Nations.
Can I buy my way to a R1000 profit?

Arguably the most interesting experiment to date. Have to hand it to you with these escapades Brent
Was that half a million win or place on Lucky Dan....?

Re: The buying money thread!
LOL thanks Mackem, lets hope I don't hit a roadblock early on!
I am going to assume the first bet arrived after this morning even though mathematically it is not quite over but 3 bonus point wins for the Aussies and 2 losses with no bonus points for NZ is seriously not going to happen.
Should wait for the money in reality but to keep the momentum going will press on.

This should be rather interesting. Nice idea!
What about taking some action on England in the 2nd test? I haven't shopped around but see GO have 1/33 (3% roi)... Can't see the poms losing from here.

Re: The buying money thread!
Interesting one Justin.
My only concern is the weather and while the forcast is not that bad it is also not that great so a bit worried about the draw. A bit of rain and a 100 stand by 2 Paki's and the draw will come right in.
There is 1/25 (4%) with WSB and WOS have the same price although it is suspended.
WOS have a money back rule if less than 350 overs bowled in match and it is a draw so I am going to keep an eye out there and hop on if they open at 1/25.
Administrator has disabled public posting
Re: The buying money thread!
I had to go out so not sure if WOS ever came out with that 1/25 but it would have trotted up in the end.
Time for another short price strike - I can't see the Leopards living with the Sharks on Friday night and am taking the 1/25 at World Sports Betting

Mised out on the weekend as time caught up with me before I could take the Sharks Lions double - having said that it would have been easy to have thrown the Bulls in and that would have been a distaster.
Following Saffers advice in the US Open thread and lumping 3 short prices together in round 1 for a combined 7% return.
BET: Roddick, Federer and Soderling to win US Open first round matches at a return of just shy of 7%

Phew that was a close one. The "Buying Money" thread nearly came to an abrupt end
Federer and Roddick cruised home but Soderling wins 6-4 in the 5th having dropped a 2 set lead.

Never in doubt Brent ha ha! Glad it worked out, would have felt really bad otherwise, me having made money out of your tips before! You not going Nadal, Murray, Djokovic today then?!

Re: The buying money thread!
LOL no worries mate, all in the interests of science
What do you think of that treble? I see the Djoker at 1/16 with GreatOdds - not a bad price and double with Nadal gives an 8% return (Could not find Murray game)
Administrator has disabled public posting
Re: The buying money thread!
Troicki is, like Djoker, a Serb and is No 45 in the world so no monkey.
Djokovic is 4-1 against him though and just beat him a couple of weeks ago in straight sets at Cincinnati. So on that basis I am going for the treble. Murray is a banker, paying only 1.03 though. His match is the last one of the day so you may not have odds yet

Re: The buying money thread!
PS - if you are nervous about Djoker have a look at Nalbandian, playing a Rik v/d Vost, a South African journeyman. Nalbandian is in great form at the moment.
Administrator has disabled public posting
Re: The buying money thread!
Thanks Saffer was just interested that the Djoker was 0.12/1 with WSB a good deal shorter than the others.
Still he looks a good thing and RB has rubber stamped so here is the treble for today
182.91/1189.07 Djoker/Nadal and Murray to win with WSB (a 15% return)
I considered throwing Nalbandian in but did not want to tempt fate!
I am hoping the bullet was succesfully dodged yesterday and that these 3 trot up....

Re: The buying money thread!
This is why I love sports betting. 23h00 and I am up watching a game I would normally have no interest in as my 1/10 shot battles from a break down in the 4th to force a deciding set.
And all because of a bloody experiment - if I get through this nor more tennis for a while

Re: The buying money thread!
Ha Ha, he got the win in the end though hey Brent. I have just got back into the office to see Nalbandian needed 5 sets as well (I had him in my mix too)! At least Nadal you can always count on - a win in the early rounds is as certain as death and taxes! Murray only playing tonight so you will have to wait a bit longer! Buying money never been so hard hey!
I know you said last bet on tennis for a while but have a look at Roddick,,,

Cannot believe how excited I got in that 5th set - I have got attached to this thread and will be a broken man if I get blown out of the water short of target!
As you say Saffer they arrived in the end and I had so much fun I may just start following tennis closely again.
Must say though that the fact that RB backed my 1/10 shot at 5/2 in running suggests that buying money can only end in tears at some stage.
If Murray arrives (and he is looking good in the 1st) then I may be tempted into another tennis.
Very wary of soccer Mackem but lets have your short priced good things for consideration!!!

I reckon you are doing just fine Brent so stay clear of the footy if you are weary of it. I will not be the one to crash this experiment
I did however notice when looking at the weekend footy the "match ups" below and thought of your buying money thread.
Egypt 1/8 home to Sierra Leone
Ivory Coast 1/8 home to Rwanda
Morroco 1/8 home to Central African Republic
Nigeria 1/8 home to Madagascar
Bafana (shortened) 1/8 home to Niger
Cameroon 2/11 in Mauritius
Isreal 1/12 home to Malta
Serbia 1/10 in the Faroe Islands
Bosnia 1/6 in Luxembourg
Spain 1/50 in Liechtenstein
Netherlands 1/50 in San Marino

Don't think I am going to push my luck in the tennis again (although arm can be twisted) as anybody making the 3rd round can surley play a bit and this heat can cuase havoc with players bodies reacting differently.

Re: The buying money thread!
Brent I saw a good one for you - todays 20/20 in Cardiff. Paying a massive $1.03 for a century NOT to be scored in the match. Given they are playing on the same surface as Sunday's game where the total innings score was 120 odd (England's after 17 overs) it looks like it could tip you over the R1,500!

Good spot that one Saffer - was a hectic day but did a quick surf around at lunch time but could not find a local bookie quoting that market so had to pass.
I see Murray lost in the next round so pleased I packed up the tennis.

Re: The buying money thread!
absolutely correct on the tennis, the bankers dry up after week one. Nadal is only a 7% return, in a semi final - crazy. Playing Youzhny who Nadal should beat (although he has lost to him 4 times before). Just no value there at all!

Re: The buying money thread!
Geez that is a big price (relativly speaking of course)
SS when I research the previews I look at the 6 bookmakers who support the main site (you can imagine that task in itself takes a while) and because of this I tend to place the majority of bets with them as well. Between them I usually get or match the best deal that is out there.
There are something like 12 online players in SA now so very tough to keep tabs on them all and holding decent balances with all also a problem sometimes.
Had I seen the Voltbet price and if I had a loaded account with them (which I don't) I would certainly have taken it - as it is I will have to settle for around a 3% return which before I saw your post seemed pretty decent.

Cheers t-rac, lets see if we can move a bit closer to target.
When the "Buying Money" thread sees big rugby handicaps it gets excited and lumping the Cheetahs over the Pumas, WP to beat the Griquas and the Bulls to beat the Leopards offers a not to be sneezed at 15% return. All of the favourites still in the Currie Cup hunt and I can't see any of then fluffing their lines.

LOL South, must admit this is one of my fav threads on the forum since it started, just the title, "buying money thread", I love it.
I reckon Brent will already have had an eye on the rugga fixtures for next weekend with this thread in mind. Not sure the ones below fit the bill though.
8 Oct Platinum Leopards v Vodacom Free State Cheetahs, Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, Phokeng 19:00
8 Oct Xerox Lions v Barloworld Toyota Pumas, Coca-Cola Park Stadium, Johannesburg 19:10
There is however international footy next weekend, I reckon Brent will perhaps put it all on Spain to beat Lithuania or he may wait for mighty Luxembourgs visit to France on the following Tuesday? that could be interesting, the French could throw the toys out of the pram and disintegrate when Andy Schleck heads the visitors into a surprise early lead.

stiff Brent, so close and was really enjoyable to follow - it had me pricing up some accas on really low priced footie and rugby games over last couple weeks (teams priced 1/10 or less), not something i'd normally be doing but this thread did make me wonder.

Re: The buying money thread!
Jammer Brent that was a shocker by the Lions. Just shows how there is never a sure thing, no matter how the bookies might have you believe it. Still though, there is merit in the system I think - I lost count of the number of bets you placed and of course had the objective been other than to double your money you would probably have put some aside. I reckon you should go again when the S15 arrives - picking against the Lions and Cheetahs on tour!
For me I am going to put a bet on Australia to win the annual 4 Nations rugby league comp, being held in NZ and Australia this year (the final in Brisbane). The odds are lean (1/3) but if you think that, with the competition being New Zealand, England and Papau New Guinea against the strength of the Aussies it SHOULD be a no brainer. I say should because in 2008 Australia lost to New Zealand in what they was the biggest upset in league history. Any player involved in that match won't let it happen again I hope! Anyway, interest rates in Oz are pretty lean so I reckon I may as well plonk my money with the bookies for a couple of weeks!
