The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
Football season is here and rather than focus on individual games I am going to try my hand at the very popular Soccer 6 bet which is also available at the likes of World of Sport (Socca Scramble), Mbet (Kick Six), Betxchange (Soccer 66) and World Sports Betting (Soccer 6)
It essentially replicates the tote version although with the bookmakers a line costs R1 and not R6 so the dividend is divided by 6 to get your payout. The bookmakers systems also allow fractional betting which is handy.
My logic for doing this is twofold:
1. I am not a great soccer punter and by taking this bet I can have an interest in most of the weekends action without laying out too much.
2. I have reason to believe that there is money to be made I and I want to see what if any return I can get over a season.
I am going to track both local Soccer 6's as well as if my theory is correct I will stand my best chance of making money in this market.
I am going to allow myself a budget of 50 units for the English (or European) leagues and 50 units for the local Soccer 6 and will invest 5 units on each bet.
First bet to follow shortly and should anyone wish to track their Soccer 6 bets here please feel free to do so.

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
There are a load of these each week but I am going to be selective and play between 1 and 4 a week, usually somewhere in between.
I will be looking to go wide in the hope of upsets and will take a position for or against a team or given teams on a given weekend.
I will also track what would have happened if I had just placed my bet on or against the teams I am opposing or pulling for.
Note: 1 is a home win, 2 is a draw and 3 is an away win.
BET 1: Weekend Premiership
Leg 1: (M1) Aston Villa v West Ham [1, 2, 3]
Leg 2: (M2) Blackburn v Everton [2, 3]
Leg 3: (M3) Bolton v Fulham [1, 2, 3]
Leg 4: (M4) Sundrland v Birmnghm [1, 2, 3]
Leg 5: (M5) Wigan v Blackpool [1, 2, 3]
Leg 6: (M6) Liverpool v Arsenal [2, 3]
Type: 5 units
Combinations: 324
Times bet taken: 1.543
I am hoping that Balckburn and Liverpool fail to win at home in which case my bet will win. In order for it to pay though I need upsets in the others legs as the dividend is determined by numbers of winners.
The alternative here would be to back 5 units Everton and Arsenal + the draw in a double that would work out to 1.03/1

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
Interesting Brent. To me it feels that the Soccer 6 bet has been well marketed in SA and looks a good way to get more people into sports betting and seems to be working judging by it's popularity.
Might give it a go, had too many close calls on the normal acca's last season so a different tactic might be what's needed.

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
I have the same tactic going this football season Brent. I am going to put down a few LT bets and then concentrate on the soccer 6 bets offered by the bookies.
I have the same logic as you in this regard and my individual match betting is definately flawed. For some reason I just can't come on top of these match bets and instead of chasing my tail I have taken the same approach.
I also want to concentrate on the PSL as the dividends seem to be bigger due to the upsets that always pop up.
I am going to bet about 2 units per bet.
For the same match I have gone with the following:
1,2,3 / 2,3 / 1,2,3 / 1,2,3 / 1,2 / 1,2,3
I have opposed Blackburn and Blackpool for this bet.

That Soccer 6 is flawed Brent, no Liverpool win? At the fotress? WIth a new manager that every player wants to impress? Go the redmen

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
Agree S6 is an interesting bet and again agree with Justin that the PSL version is the one that can really throw up a surprise or two.
I like Wigan today but they are probably going to be the most popular pick if you consider the fixed odds prices. Bolton home to Fulham also growing on me.
Had a pre-season chat to Catsmug this morning re: the clash of the "Mighty's" at the Stadium of Light. We both agreed that our respective teams are likely to be fairly crap this season and anyone punting on todays Mackems v Brum game needs their bumps feeling .

Everton disappointing so I won't be capitalising on the Blackpool win away to Wigan which should mean it will pay.
Opening Balance: 50 units
Current Balance: 45 units

Paid 19K
Had you gone wider with Rovers to win, nice payout.
Had Everton won or drawn, payout would have been less

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
Wow thanks for that Popgun.
That is a huge payout and clearly Wigan were popular bankers. I never caught it but it certainly shows there are some big payouts out there - the key is to catch the big upsets (like Blackpool) and to find the right banker - easier said than done but at R1 a line you have more chance than someone playing R6 a line.

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
I'm amazed at the size of that payout even with Blackpool winning.

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
I am going to continue this experiment although having given it some thought I may give myself some more flexibility regards stake etc as we go along.
The PSL kicks off and we have fixtures featuring huge odds on favourites Pirates, Sundowns and Chiefs and firm favourites Supersport.
The payout could be next to nothing but if a couple of the big boys get rolled this one could break records.
I am going to take a massive chance and banker Ajax tonight against Celtic - they are 14/10
and if I put 5 units on them to win I would make 7 units profit.
Leg 1: (M1) Vasco v Pirates [1, 2, 3]
Leg 2: (M2) Ajax CT v Bloem Celtic [1]
Leg 3: (M3) FS Stars v Santos [1, 2, 3]
Leg 4: (M4) Wits Univ v Supersport [1, 2, 3]
Leg 5: (M5) Chiefs v G Arrows [1, 2, 3]
Leg 6: (M6) Sundowns v Swallows [1, 2, 3]
Type: Banker
Combinations: 243
Times bet taken: 2.056 (I get just over a 3rd of the dividend is Ajax arrive)
I will also take a premiership one tomorrow

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
I am bankering City in the Premier League Soccer 6
Leg 1: (M1) Blackpool v Fulham [1, 2, 3]
Leg 2: (M2) Derby v QPR [1, 2, 3]
Leg 3: (M3) Wolves v Newcastle [1, 2, 3]
Leg 4: (M4) Bolton v Birmingham [1, 2, 3]
Leg 5: (M5) Sunderland v Man City [3]
Leg 6: (M6) A Villa v Everton [1, 2, 3]
Type: Banker
Combinations: 243
Times bet taken: 2.056
I could have stuck the 5 units on City at 9/10 for a profit of R450.

Bankering City eh Brent must say those other fixtures in the UK S6 look very tough.
See you have Ajax home, even with Pirates winning could still pay if you get a few shocks today

Geez Brent, when i saw your bets I thought what the hell are you doing here, but I wasn't too concerned coz I knew there would be some logic to it, I just wouldn't see opportunities that you see. Well, I suppose thats what the forum's all about, to give us different angles to look at betting. You certainly have a knack for that. With Wits beating SS Utd., lets hope the payout is good. I also predicted a Man. C win but very close. You're certainly brave to banker an away win.

EPL still pending 3 results but City lost!

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
Yip I needed one of Chiefs or Pirates to get rolled or draw for the Soccer 6 to pay - in this case I got the Soccer 6 but actually lost money - I accept that this will happen though and for me the aim locally will be to beat Pirates and Chiefs as alot of the R20-R50 punters will banker them week in and week out.
EPL/Europe
Invested 10 units
Balance -10 units
Budget remaining 40 units
Potential Balance (backing teams outright or in multiples) - -10 units
PSL
Invested 5 units
Balance -2.99 units
Budget Remaining 47.01 units
Potential Balance: +7 units (taking the 14/10 Ajax)
Not off to a great start but will plug away for a while before making any judgements - I may look to drop the stake on the EPL games as the result of the experiment is more important than the amount invested.

Battery dying, more details later - 2 local soccer 6' 2.5 units each with 2 draw bankers and 5 fields - hoping for upsets.

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
Always nice to chase big dividends but when you look at this return from midweek.......it shows another way of looking at S6
Milan, Bayern, Shakthar and Chelsea were deep in the red. Cluj game was wide open, Marseille was a shock but not huge. 4 bankers and 2 fields would have been a decent return. Cant remember exact prices of the 4 short price favs but would estimate a four fold acca would have paid half that divi.
M 1 Ac Milan 2 vs Auxerre 0
M 2 Bayern Munich 2 vs Roma 0
M 3 Cfr Cluj 2 vs Fc Basle 1
M 4 Marseille 0 vs Spartak Moscow 1
M 5 Shakhtar Donetsk 1 vs Partizan Belgrade 0
M 6 Msk Zilina 1 vs Chelsea 4
Winning Combination: 1/1/1/3/1/3
Net Pool: R471,756.38
Winners: 1025.37
Status: Official
Dividend: R459.60

You are right Mackem, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
My balances so far
PSL -7.99
EPL -10
Not going to be as rigid about my strategy and lets see is we can turn this around.

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
Have been watching the activities of Saftote in respect of soccer 6 payouts and certain procedures look a bit dodge. The ultimate is Sat 25/09/10: overseas pool 1,completed on Sat reflected a final payout of R16000+ on Sunday, and today the payout has been reduced by R10000.
All is not well at Saftote!

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
I do not understand
1. How a dividend can be declared (or estimated) and then changed - hell it is a simple division exercise
2. Why we cannot see updated reports of how many tickets left (after each leg)and "will pays" going into the last leg (when not altogether) - surley no more complicated than doing for the Pick 6?
I see the UK pool was 21k this week - a nice one to catch

Hi Guys
Saw that one as well but figured it out eventually, the last 2 games if I recall corretly were Amazulu vs Swallows and Black Aces vs Santos. They were only played on the Sunday and therefore the reduction after the final result.

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
I was a bit miffed in the last round of PSL games in midweek. 3 of 8 fixtures were cancelled to allow the sides playing the MTN8 semi's time to prepare. Admittedly, the comms from the PSL could be better but F365.co.za and Supersport websites picked up on it that the 3 games were off at least a couple of days in advance.
I don't think SAFTOTE did though as when I had a look at the S6 fixtures in the afternoon they were showing 4 games and 2 "fields" (assume 2 of the cancellations were the fields). I decided not to play but after correctly nailling the results of the 5 PSL fixtures that did take place, I couldn't help thinking how I would have played the S6 that day.

Correct KT, those games did take place on Sunday. As a guide, on the fixed odds, from memory Santos were a shade of odds against, strongish fav's but not bankers, they won 1-0. The Amazulu game was wide open with the home side 13/10 to 15/10 depending on bookie, the draw 2/1 - 22/10 and Swallows approx a 5/2 chance, score was 2-2.
Seems very strange to me.

Thanks for the mail Rob, very interesting and baffles me how someone can make such an error.
On another note I am busy watching former local footballer Shane MacGregor promoting the Soccer 6 on Telly Track - with respect to the guy he is as monotone as you can get, hardly going to drum up enthusiasm and clearly reading, guys come and get .... zzzzzzzzz

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
What baffles me ,is why it is manual? I find that a bit concerning....why is the whole process not like racing(mind you that is a bit suspect itself,at Saftote).
I'm afraid Shane could do with a bit of training on his presentation skills.I wonder if N.Pretorius is also in charge of that area cos it makes the appointment interesting,to say the least!

Re: The Soccer 6/Scramble/Kick Six Thread
I have made that same point many times before - surely they use the same systems/logic as for the Pick 6 where you can see will pays well before the last race is run and tickets going forward after each leg.
I can understand why the Tote is a virtual monopoly in racing but I wonder if there is not an opportunity to tackle them head on in this Soccer 6 market? I don't count that Lotto type thing with 12 games which is a joke in my view.

I am going to get back into the Soccer 6's this weekend.
Will look to get an upset in the Chiefs game (as per your preview Mackem) and I will have a look at the UK as well where Man United look to be a banker in the final leg.

Shot Brent, think you mean Man City ? in the UK S6 mate.
Im growing tired of paying in, going wide again this week but this time taking on Chiefs and Supersport, get both of them rolled and it will hopefully pay well.

Hi Mackem, I was lookin at the English Premier Saturday pool at WOS - their Soccer Scramble
Going to take a different strategy today.
Like you I want to oppose Supersport and Chiefs but how often do you get the result (by going field in those 2 legs) but your banker fails to show up?
Alternativly you go field and Supersport and Chiefs win and you still pay in.
Today I am going to leave the Chiefs and Supersport wins out and play 2,3 in the former and 1,2 in the former.
Will add 4 fields - less chance of me catching it but if I do I will almost certainly get a payout?

Let's hope fortune favours the brave with the PSL Brent, I have gone 3 fields, Draw + Plat Stars and Amazulu + Draw and then Aces + Draw but if we are still running on Sunday could take some cover on Vasco.
A somewhat conservative UK S6 for Saturdays program
Banker Arsenal
Bolton + Draw
Draw+Spurs
Newcastle+Draw
Draw+WestHam
Draw+Chelsea

Sick about Amazulu going down, saw second half and they had all the ball but created next to nothing, could be a nice divi building with Chiefs drawing but I'm gone.
Did catch the UK version with a much smaller stake provisional divi has been R2,482 all day, no idea why it takes so long to confirm but my 1/6 of that would help me at least pull square on S6 on a pretty horrible weekend for me on the footy

Playing both tonight.
In the European S6 have bankered Ajax and Roma, then gone Real and Draw and 3 fields hoping to get the English teams rolled.
In the Championship, very speculative as its a tough card but bankered Ipswich away from home and have opposed the two leaders QPR and Caridff who have tough away games.
Here's hoping
