In his weekly Podcast Brent Graham caught up with Jason Dedekind* from Victor Chandler to discuss Saturday’s Durban July and the Match Race Competition on SportsPicks.
In this article we summarize the discussion but you can click here for the full interview
Victor Chandler is sponsoring a Durban July competition on www.sportspicks.co.za
It is free to enter and there are over R9000 worth of cash and betting vouchers up for grabs. All you have to do is register, enter a team and then make your selections on the match ups provided – here Jason gives some advice for those struggling to make their picks (Victor Chandler prices in brackets).
4. Irish Flame (9/2) v 6. Bold Silvano (11/2)
JD Selection: Bold Silvano – a progressive sort, great last run and gives the impression there is more to come
10. River Jetez (7/1) v 1. Pocket Power (15/2)
JD Selection: Pocket Power – the money horse may actually be suited by wide draw as it will ensure he gets a free run, originally Jason’s favourite when he first looked to price up.
5. Fort Vogue (9/1) v 7. Orbison (14/1)
JD Selection: Fort Vogue – this is his mission, Marcus up and the Bass stable – respect Orbison but Fort Vogue is the call here
9. Ancestral Fore (16/1) v 13. Happy Valley (15/1)
JD Selection: Ancestral Fore – a tough choice but going for tried and tested over the improver
11. Aslan (16/1) v 15. Lizarre (18/1)
JD Selection: Aslan – put a line through his last run, a nice lurker at current prices as well
16. Russian Sage (16/1) v 17. Flying Tristram (30/1)
JD Selection: Russian Sage – encouraged by prep runs of Russian Sage and Flying Tristram would prefer a galloping track
2. Rudra (70/1) v 20. Goat (66/1)
JD Selection: Goat – Rudra overarted, Goat got in through the back door but will have an eye on cashing for the Lafferty stable.
14. Captain Scott (80/1) v 3. Fabiani (85/1)
JD Selection: Fabiani – a tough call but Captain Scott has stamina doubts and is drawn wide, Fabiani not in great form but does like to race handy
8. Red Rake (70/1) v 18. Service Ace (75/1)
JD Selection: Red Rake – has attracted some support, a strong front runner who could be hard to peg back if there is a tailwind – a banker
12. Love is in the Air (80/1) v 19. Vertical Takeoff (85/1)
JD Selection: Love is in the Air – some shrewd money for Vertical Takeoff but would prefer a galloping track – a tough call but siding with the Bass filly.
Aslan the Lurker
Jason while not ignoring the favourites reckons there is value further down the boards with Aslan and Russian Sage and he also fancies Pocket Power for a big run.
*Jason is operations manager at Victor Chandler. He is a massive horse racing fan who comes from a tipping background and he also loves his sport!
