The St Georges Golf and Country Club plays host to the RBC Canadian Open for the first time in over 40 years and indications are that a player with a good long iron game will emerge victorious

It is always tough to finalise a staking plan when there is no course form to go on but from what I have been able to find on the net the par 70 St Georges course will require pin point iron play especially given that there are 5 par 3’s to contend with this week.

There are a host of players disputing favouritism including Donald, Casey and Goosen and while a case could be made for each of them I believe it is time that Sean O’Hair returned to the winner’s enclosure. He has started knocking on the door again of late and was T7 last week at St Andrews another in a long line of high finishes without really challenging for the win. His ball striking is superb and his record in Canada is good with 2 3rd place finishes in 4 starts. At 18.18/1 he gets the nod as a win only selection.

Hunter Mahan is another who has played well in Canada previously and there was a lot to like about his 8th place in the Open last week. He is striking the ball well and appears to have all of the ingredients to get in contention on this course as there are now signs that he is getting back to the levels he showed when winning the Phoenix Open at the beginning of the year. Mahan is a 33/1 shot this week.

Brian Davis is 3rd in par 3 scoring and has already had a couple of near misses this season. He would appear to have the game for this course and at 125/1 he certainly looks worth a nibble.

Finally I am going for the Canadian Graham DaLaet a 110/1 shot. The promising youngster was in contention at last weeks Reno-Tahoe Open before fading in the final round and on a course where he has at least some experience he could be where the home grown challenge comes from especially given Weir’s current run of form.

STAKING PLAN

2 units win O’Hair at 18.18/1 at World of Sport

1 unit each way on Hunter Mahan at 33/1 with Betxchange or Victor Chandler

0.5 unit each way on Davis at 125/1 with Mbet or World of Sport

0.5 unit each way on DeLaet at 110/1 with Betxchange

All bookmakers quoted offer quarter odds Top 5 places
