Thought it might be interesting to get a thread on betting strategy going. I am fairly new to punting, few months now, and would love to just discuss how everyone goes about their strategy and what ideas or rules everyone has for themselves. Any tips or advice is always appreciated and it would be fun hearing from anyone willing to share.

First of all, I assume everyone has some form of bankroll management, ie. playing a percentage per bet as a unit.

The idea for this thread also came out of parlays vs singles. Do you guys prefer one over the other? Is it a bit of both? Would it be better to have three winners around the 1.80 (4/5) for a multiple of 3.90 (29/10) for example? Or is it better to stick to single handicap betting, which I also like, for the 1.90 (9/10)

Any input would be appreciated, cheers!

The first bit of strategy for me is that having started as someone who bet on everything I have become very much a rugby specialist with some occasional golf (big events mainly) and when I bet on soccer etc my stakes are generally lower as I have proven to myself that I will struggle to make money long-term in other sports

It's not necessarily a strategy, but I would say watching the game and using in play betting can often be beneficial. There have been recent games between watford/Spurs, Inter/Spurs, Chelsea/Man United etc, where you could sense a goal was coming for one of the sides late in the game. You can usually find a way in to bet at big odds for a small stake. I also like to use in play on the ov 2.5 and BTTS markets. For example, the Arsenal v Leicester game on Monday had ov 2.5 @ 2/5 and BTTS @ 4/9, if I remember correctly. I thought both had a very, very good chance of landing but the odds were very short. I waited 20 minutes and the odds were now 5/6 and evens, so had a small stake on BTTS ( obviously, only works if still 0-0, no bet if a team scores ). I quite like this approach as a lot of these type of games tend to take a while to get going but really open up once the first goal goes in.

That's true, I really applied this one with the cricket SA v ZIM and we were 102-7 at one point so I checked the price and got on SA @2.80, knowing that if we're struggling on that pitch they would probably also probably more so. Turned out great :)

Haven't really thought about doing that in soccer/football. Thanks guys!
