Brabantse Pijl Wednesday 17 April
This race sees the start of the hilly season. Run over 196km with 31 hills finishing with three laps of 23km each. Last 10km has three climbs - 1km at 5% - 400m at 8% - final climb 700m at 6.2%. Selected previous winners - Wellens last year from a break - Colbrelli, Sagan, Gilbert and Mr TV himself Thomas Voeckler.
Current bookie favorites are Alaphillipe and van der Poel.
Need to attend to something for the next few hours but will post picks later today.

Brabantse Pijl
Course looks perfectly suited for Alaphillipe but not sure how he will be mentally. He came down last week - only a few scratches but here's the rub. Amazingly it is the first time as a pro cyclist he has ever been down in a race. Still think I will go with him.
Win Only
Alaphillipe @ 3/1
and looking for the other podium places
Top Three
Impey @ 6/1
Clarke @ 12/1

Amazing race on Wednesday. Who would have thought van der Poel could drag Alaphilippe and Matthews up a final climb and then beat both of them on a 150m flat to the line. Suppose it helps if your dad is Adri - 6 times national champion and runner-up to Lemond in the world champs and your maternal grand dad is Pou-Pou the eternal second.
Amstel Gold
265km with 35 hills and run on narrow roads. Last 60km has several short, steep climbs - gradients of 12% - 22%. Last climb 6km from finish but race also finishes on narrow roads so a few seconds lead is good enough. Last year won by Walgren who switched to DD and has done nothing since. Prior to that the race finished up the Cauberg. As a result of the small roads there is usually crashes so I may add a few riders later ( like that Woods Brent put up ) but first up
Win Only
van der Poel @ 15/4
E/W
Wellens @ 20/1
van Aert @ 33/1

I'm going with Sagan in the Amstel, not been at his best of late but 10/1 looked big enough. My roughies are van Avermaet at 33/1 and Mohoric at 80/1. Enjoy the race !!

Kwiatkowski 18/1 main bet and adding Van Aert who may be a bit over raced at 40/1 at Hollies

And that Chaps is the future of cycling. Just a pity he is going back to cyclocross for the olympics and we won't see him for the next year.

Kwia gave me a run but that was the greatest finish to a bike race I have ever seen - to attack early and then to drag a bunch of riders across a 1 minute gap and then outsprint them and the riders you caught is unbelievable

Amazing that when the dust settled the 3/1 fav won that - what a race
