Cycling : Criterium du Dauphine was created by The Vann
The Dauphine is run over 8 Stages with a few mountains and a decent 26km ITT on stage 4. Recently TdF winners have done well in this race with Froome x3/Wiggens x2 and Thomas winning last year. First stage runs up a Cat 1 early doors but sprinters could contend. Will post stage ideas tomorrow. First up - Have to have my outright
To podium 1-3
Porte @ 19/10

Shot Vann, some interesting stage profile coming up, My beer money is on Nils Pollit for Stage 1 at 66/1. Not sure if Katusha have a sprinter but a stage win would seem most likely target for the team. Could be a stage for a break or small group springing from the bunch and Pollit fits the bill for me although Alaphilippe hard to beat.

Naesen and Van Aert give me runs for my money but when the guy you oppose in your match bet wins the stage you know you are in trouble

Great opening stage to watch though

We had a run with Pollit as well yesterday, gone with Kwiatkowski for Stage 2, don't think the team would mind having the jersey, last climb is steep but looks like about 18km out.

Looking for a roughie, Cummings at 80/1 (last yesterday, sometimes a sign with him) Goncalves at 125/1, Barguil at 150/1 and Gaultier at 200/1 all on my list, won't put them all in and undecided which to include as yet.

Thought I was in business with Impey but he ran out of gas. Not sure if the GC guys will allow a break today so taking two from the peloton and two possible break riders.
e/w
Van Aert @ 20/1 - Main bet
Win only beers
Lutsenko @ 22/1
de Marchi @ 50/1
Pauwels @ 200/1

At one point all 3 in the brek then Kwia told to sit up and work for Froome and the fact that Dumo was in the break meant De March and Cosnefroy were done for - great race to watch so far - tough to punt though

Looks like Froome wants to make a statement here - mainly to his own team about who is the leader at the TDF

Stage 3 looks like a guaranteed sprint finish. With Bouhanni pulling yesterday we are left with Bennett. Don't really fancy odds-on in cycling so a few beers for the watch and a shot at 2-3 on the podium.
Win
Bennett @ 17/20
1-3
Boassen Hagen @ 9/4

Well done Brent. Was a little concerned with how far back Benett was at the 1km mark but he came through easily. 26Km today with the first 11km uphill. Tommy D still has water on the damaged knee and cartilage which has not quite healed and Porte says he is not up to speed yet. Can't see past Froome here but with some of the other contenders not at full strength I am going to take a shot at that 2-3 position.
Win
Froome @ 2/1
1-3
Politt @ 4/1 Should make it if he loses less then 15sec over the first 11km

Agree Vann I think the big Dawg will come out to play today - I have a feeling Froome wants to send a message to his team that he is the clear leader ahead of the TDF

3 units Froome win 2/1
1 unit Van Aert top 3 at 4/1 - been so impressed with this guy

At least Froome had the decency to crash out on the recon so we get our stake back. Early news is pelvis - so out of TdF.

Impressive by Van Aert - nice pick Brent. Going with him today. The last sprint stage but the run-in is a mess. Road narrows at 1.4km and two bends in last 1km. Bennett should win but I have seen him struggle for position on technical finishes so taking van Aert's bike handling skills
e/w
Van Aert @ 9/1

Haven't had chance to follow last couple of stages, well done with Van Aert guys :beer

Friday's stage, thinking break has some sort of chance, would have liked a GC man too but couldn't make my mind uo.

Here goes....

Petr Vakoc 66/1, came in with GC on Stage 2 on another lumpy profile, DQS have Ala and Gilbert but hoping this guy gets in break.
Serge Pauwels 80/1, team surely looking for stage wins so hoping he is their man
Cyril Gautier 250/1 experienced campaigner

Thanks Chris, I recorded the stage and on returning from the rugby I checked balances (as you do after a great week) and noticed one was a bit higher than expected - firmly expected Buchmann to come around Fugslang for the win and couldn't believe when Poels shot past

A very interesting stage today and will be tough to control - Fugslang a worthy favouite but there could be value in others - I will be holding thumbs Poels and Ineos can put him under pressure as I am on Poels at 33/1

Todays bets to follow

Was so disappointed in the final stage, no one even tried to make an effort to win, know it never had the huge climbs, but would have been nice for at least an effort from the teams.

Anyway on to the TDF.

Missed out on the last two days with my guests - and Damn that was expensive. Would have gone with that Poels on Saturday Brent so nice one there. Don't think I would have joined on van Baarle on Sunday but that was BRILLIANT - Congrats.
Kindly bring this form to the TdF

Cheers Vann - agree with KT it was a poor stage from a GC action point of view but the Van Baarle win certainly helped soften the blow

Was 15 units up less 2.5 lost on stage and 2.5 on stage and then 40 units profit on stage winner

Overall a handy 50 unit profit on the Dauphine

Just hope I haven't peaked too soon for Le Tour
