First Ashes test starts on 1st August. I put this outright preview together, will also give some thought to top series bat and ball markets

goodforthegame.co.za/Cricket/the-ashes-2...betting-preview.html

I'm thinking it could get very close and right now 7/1 a drawn series makes most appeal, perhaps to take some cover if still a runner heading into 5th test.

All thoughts on the Ashes are most welcome here

Hey Mackem - really liking that 'No century in the match' bet. After a long World Cup it will be hard for players to knuckle down and not withstanding the pressure of it being The Ashes. (For the record, Sunbet have the same bet at 4/1)

Thanks Matador, gut feel is we have 2 top class bowling attacks on view, still a question mark over Archer's fitness I think, let's hope he plays

Like Mackem's thoughts on the 2-2 at 7/1 which may give an option to cover come final test. Taking that idea but with slightly better odds and also caters for the 1-1 going into final match.
First test and Series result
England and draw @ 14/1
Australia and draw @ 18/1
Weather looks OK in Birmingham and pitch should provide result which gives odds of almost 8/1 for same bet with the extra cover.

One other series bet. If he gets a century in the series there is not much doubt it will be the fastest

First Test
Joining Couch with Pattinson but on the England side taking
Woakes @ 7/2
and a few beers on
Match to finish within three days @ 5/1
Speculating most players may still be in one day mode which looked like it in the Ireland match.

What an innings by Smith - at 122/8 the 15/4 looked like real value

To be able to withstand the abuse like he has tells you something about the guy - what a temperament

Taking a small nibble on the draw @ 8/1 with Sunbet.

There is a bit of rain around over the next two days but also hoping the Aussies can stick around a bit longer in their 2nd innings.

Rain stayed away but England were really limp in that 2nd innings.

Third Test
Hopping aboard the Couch Head pick and I do like that Woakes PP from Mackem so will be taking that as my main play.
England bowler
Broad @ 9/4
Australia bowler
Siddle @ 7/2 (Likes Headingly)
and the beer allocation based on the fact that Smith is the only Aussie who can bat so why not add someone who may play and has a 99 to his name
Australia bat
Starc @ 50/1

Inspirational call on Denly Couch. Kind of scorecard you need to print with the bet slip and frame in your pub.

Was just about to comment Vann that I reckon thats the first time I've ever won a Top Bat bet with 12 as the top score!!

The only problem with winning that bet is that the collapse was so dramatic that the Archer MoM punt which was looking great after the 1st Inns is now not looking nearly as good.

Unbelievably poor from the Poms and just disappointed that I haven't made money by going unders on runs more often in this series as honestly these bowling attacks are miles better than the blokes holding the stick

Incredible third test, preview for the fourth match which starts on Wednesday, Manchester

goodforthegame.co.za/Cricket/the-ashes-2...betting-preview.html

Archer top 1st innings bowler for England at 5/2, he took 6 of his 8 wickets in first innings in the previous game, weather forecast right now suggested a bit of rain and cloud in the first couple of days and if that proves to be the case Archer will be a real handful again.

Also, I think Couch was on the right track with with Archer MoM at Leeds so I'm "stealing" that one for Manchester bru :)

So England bring in Overton for Woakes whom they expect to trouble Smith (Smith was his maiden test wicket). The only bowler who has troubled Smith thus far is Archer so he gets pulled after five overs and six deliveries to Smith - he has bowled longer spells then this. Root replaces him with Overton - NO - with Stokes. When Broad comes off the other end he is replaced with Overton - NO - with Leach. After 30 deliveries which allow Smith to settle we finally get Overton.
If that was Pakistan fielding today tomorrow's tabloid headlines would be screaming Match Fixing in six inch headlines.

I could use an England win to square the series which was my pre-series outright but my picks for the 5th test are as follows.

Player Performance Jos Buttler over 76.5 at 12/10 (WSB)

Joe Root to score a 50 in the first innings? (yes) at 11/8

Total match runs over 1085.5 at 17/20

As previously posted I have a similar problem - Australia win first test and series draw at 18/1. Decided on Monday England have virtually no chance so covered the whole bet with the Australia win at 23/20. Live in hope that the weather forecast is correct and we get a full match. The draw would be extremely costly for me.

England under 270.5 @ 23/20. They’ve batted poor most series and this line feels too big even if wicket meant to be ok for batting.
