Six Nations Week 3, URC, Super Rugby Pacific, Gallagher betting 25-27 Feb

Geez this was a weekend of wall to wall rugby and I fell into the the trap of betting on too many games. I was up and down all weekend but at the end of the day finished down and fortunately decided not to chase on Sunday as I would have been destroyed

The Newsletter Best Bet Sales -2.5 was in trouble but fought back only to lose by 2 points and we had no joy with the acca. I had a nice unders win on the Tahs game but lost on WP and the Bears on Friday night. I won small on the Chiefs and had a nice win Highlanders points but the Cheetahs failure to reach 32 points cost me big although my biggest bet Lions over 19.5 arrived to put me back up. I had also had a nice win Reds 11-20 at just over 5/2. From there I lost on Leinster and Brumbies points before calling it a day.

On we march and we have another busy weekend of rugby ahead. Note Varsity Cup is on a separate thread - Click Here

The Six Nations returns for week 3 - here are the current lines

Scotland +6.5 v France
England -13.5 v Wales
Ireland -37.5 v Italy

My first lean is Wales + and Italy +

The SA teams are in Europe for URC action - here are my projected handicaps - have a feeling I could be well out, I don't really have a feel for the strength of the Euro teams without 6 Nations players

Zebre +17.5 v Bulls
Leinster -27.5 v Lions
Connacht -5.5 v Stormers
Benetton +11.5 v Sharks

There is also Super Rugby Pacific action - project caps for those

Chiefs v M Pasifika (no idea strength of visitors so won't attempt this one)
Waratahs +7.5 v Reds
Brumbies -25.5 v Fiji
Highlanders +8.5 v Crusaders (assuming Highlanders at home)
Rebels +2.5 v Force

There us also Gallagher Prem action

Just note that Chiefs v Moana Pasifika will not be taking place on the 25th, visitors have been given an extra two days prep and now will be played on Sunday.

So on that note, just be careful placing your bets on this specific fixture if a site is advertising the 25th and wanting to result on that date.
Their terms and conditions will most likely void the bet based on the fact that it has been postponed longer than 24 hours of the original scheduled date.

The handicaps are out and in brackets to the right based on home team

Chiefs v M Pasifika (-42.5 I didn't attempt this one)
Waratahs +7.5 v Reds (+7.5)
Brumbies -25.5 v Fiji (-27.5)
Highlanders +8.5 v Crusaders (+9.5)
Rebels +2.5 v Force (-1.5 )
Blues v Hurricanes (8.5)

As Stoossy pointed out similar to mine and I left the Blues game out - reckon I would have gone -6.5

Either team to win by 7 points or less including the tie at 13/10 at Sunbet (kicking myself for not going with this market when Scots were in Cardiff in R2)

Not sure what others think, but in my view the Reds -5 vs Tahs is a gift. Going to have a nibble buying the spread too, as think it's maybe 10 points too light

Reds won both games last season by 30+ points
No doubt Tahs are a better outfit this term, but think there has been an over reaction to their win over the Drua.

No way I take this bet with no Tupou, but that's the way it goes sometimes
Tahs improvement under Coleman is phenomenal, but they should've won that game

Different thinking on the Italian game as though I normally like the Eyeties on the 1st half I prefer the full time one.

Like Zebre under 15.5 at 5/6 a lot. I thought their points would be 12.5 max, but more in the 10.5 range.

Then on the hunt for the lowest line for Lions points to take overs on their points to take on Leinster in that way.

Sharks away to Benetton.

Italians are missing about 25 between the Italian national team and U20s.
Sharks with a pretty strong team out. Bosch at 10.

Handicap was 8 and 9. You might get 10 or 11 now if you shop around. It should be a massacre.
Nice dry calm day forecasted. Sharks should get the bonus point win comfortably if they've anything about them.

I was on a Reds by 1 -12 onto Blues by 1 - 12 double. For the last 20 minutes I was supporting the 'Canes to at least try and get within the losing margin. Never thought they could end up winning it, shocking cover defense by the Blues on Ardie to not limit him to the corner.

Leicester v Gloucester Saturday 15:00
Betting Angle:
The Tigers continue to top the log but were made to work a little harder than they expected against Bath last weekend. Conditions weren’t the greatest which probably levelled the two sides somewhat. One would now expect Leicester to be a tough nut to crack at Welford road on Saturday afternoon. Gloucester’s wonderful run came to end when they were beaten 24-15 at Sandy Park a fortnight ago. They are still a very good side and I expect they’ll still fancy their chances of an upset here. They enjoyed a bye last week and could be catching the Tigers at the right time.
Patchys Pick:
This a very tough match to call, has Gloucester blown their bolt or is Leicester due a bad game ? For now, no bet.

Newcastle v Bath
Betting Angle:
I felt for the Falcons on Sunday afternoon in what was an inspiring performance in a wind swept and wet Newcastle. With the poor conditions, Newcastle were able to frustrate Exeter and keep them at arm’s length until they lost a man for the remainder of the game. Still Newcastle gave as good as they got and it took an injury time penalty to lose the match 14-15.
Despite the weather, there was an excellent turnout and the home side were given a standing ovation after the match.
Bath take the long road up to the Northeast of England and are beginning to show some mettle in recent rounds. They can continue their improvement and are my upset bet of the weekend.
Patchys Pick:
My best bet from the Premiership comes in the form of Bath, funny how some of the worst sides this season have banked the most loot. I think this handicap is way too large and am firing from the hip in this one, 6 Units on Bath 7.5 points is the play.

Northampton v Exeter Sunday 13:00
Betting Angle:
Northampton stepped up to the Sale challenge last week and had a chance to win the game but for a missed George Furbank penalty in the dying stages. They’ll be disappointed they didn’t manage to steal it at the end and will know they need to win this to continue challenging for a play off spot. Breathing a sigh of relief as they managed to slot a late penalty against 14-man Falcons last week, the Chiefs will realise they were lucky. They’re a quality outfit even without their internationals but a repeat under-performance here could well see them get beaten.
Patchys Pick:
And lastly the Saints I feel will come out on top here in a seesawing game so with that in mind it’s not a big stake, 2 Units Northampton mins 2.5 points is a lukewarm fancy.

Where is one Chiefie ??

Plus 2.5 Saints in running , lead by 11 at one stage , have an attacking lineout in the 77th min and balls it up with a backline move and concede three.

Italy playing well , red card , kunt hooker , they are reduced to 13 for some pathetic rule .

Commentators wanking themselves over Ireland and they are playing 13 men , not happy !!

Something has to be done about that stupid law - Italy got disadvantaged by an injury. Red cards used to be so rare in our game - now they are commonplace.
