No glaringly good value on the outrights so two exotics for me.
Nadal had to take a break from practise last week with his foot trouble and I think there is every chance it does not make it through the tournament. By my calculations he playsThompson in round 1, Stan the Man coming back from long term injury in round 2 and then van de Zandschulp. So round 3 he will be asked to run some.
Looking at the quarters I like the chances of Sinner in 4. Medvedev not up and running and Rublev not great on clay. Gives Sinner a good chance in that half of the draw. Alcaraz is just a Phenom.

Karatsev has had a poor year winning only 3 from 15. His one win on clay was over my man Harris who, like me, is convinced clay is for catapults and not for tennis courts. Today's opponent grew up on the clay in Argentina and he has a decent shot.

Ramos is on a four match losing streak on clay, and last time he lost even to O'Connell, an Australian ranked 124.
Kokkinakis played in Geneva last week on clay and he reached the quarterfinal there. He defeated two seasoned clay courters, Fabio Fognini and Federico Delbonis, and lost in the quarter-final in a tight match to Ruud (no. 8 ), 4-6 6-7.

Londero needed a lucky loser spot to enter the main draw after losing in straight sets to Borna Gojo in the final qualifying round.
Alcaraz has won consecutive titles in Barcelona and Madrid Masters in the lead up to this tournament.
The gulf in class and quality between these two players is obvious.

Jordan Thompson vs Rafael Nadal
I read that Nadal has looked good in pre-tournament practices, unbothered by the foot injury, after Rome.
Thompson is not particularly adept on clay and his record on the red stuff this spring is a dreadful 2-5. He lost to unknown players like Wu Y. and Misolic.
Obviously the outcome of this match and Nadal’s tournament as a whole depends on the status of his foot, but if he is close to 100 percent this should be a beatdown.

These two played a tight one in Rome 2 weeks ago, 7-6 6-3 to Zverev.
On clay this year, Baez played the final in Santiago, took the title in Estoril and played two other quarterfinals. In the first round here he beat Lajovic in 4 sets.
I think that we'll have an entertaining match here.

Alcaraz has been the dominant clay-court player of the 2022 season so far. He captured titles in Barcelona and Madrid, he beat both Nadal and Djokovic this season and he was one of the pre-tournament favourites to win the title here.
Alcaraz played twice against Ramos and beat him both times.
Ramos has had an average clay season this year. He had a good showing in Estoril, where he made the semis, but crashed out in the first round in his next three events.
Alcaraz should win this in 3 sets.

Alexander Zverev had this to say about Nadal during the German’s initial French Open press conference: “We watched him practice and all of a sudden his forehand is just 20 miles an hour faster. He moves lighter on his feet. There is something about this court that makes him play 30 percent better just being on this court.”
Zverev may be on to something. Nadal arrived at Roland Garros dealing with a foot injury and having failed to win either Masters 1000 event in Madrid or Rome. Nonetheless, nothing but the normal Roland Garros version of Nadal rolled to a 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 beatdown of Jordan Thompson in the first round.
Nadal will hope for more of the same tonight against Corentin Moutet.
Moutet defeated Stan Wawrinka in four sets. That marked the 139th-ranked Frenchman’s sixth ATP-level victory of the season, but it was his first since January. Moutet is in lackluster form at best right now and a first-ever matchup with Nadal is never easy, especially not at Roland Garros. He may not even fare better than Thompson did in round one.

Korda has been plagued with nerves while attempting to serve out matches. He was broken again on Tuesday serving for the match at 5-3 in the third. Korda managed to hold himself together to win the ensuing tiebreaker, but opponents are only going to get more difficult as the tournament progresses.
Richard Gasquet is ranked 70th in the world and will be the sentimental favourite for the Parisian crowd. He comes into Roland Garros off some success in Geneva, where he made the semifinals defeating world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev along the way. He posted a tidy win over Lloyd Harris in the first round, but Korda is much more comfortable on the dirt than Harris.
I'm taking Korda to win this and add a few big favourites to push the odds to 2.00.

It took Tiafoe eight years to win a main-draw match at Roland Garros (six main-draw losses and one in qualifying), but he finally did it on Tuesday, when he beat Benjamin Bonzi in 3 tight sets.
Tiafoe will have the crowd against him again tonight, as Goffin always enjoys raucous support from the Belgian contingent in Paris. Of course, it’s not like he needs any extra help.
Goffin is back in form and he won a title in Marrakech plus had third round performances in Monte Carlo and Madrid.
In the first round he beat Lehecka in 4 sets. Additional good news for Goffin is that he leads the head-to-head series with Tiafoe 3-1. The veteran has the edge in matchup history, the surface, and past Roland Garros performances, so this should be mostly straightforward.
I'm adding Ruud and Rune as big favourites in their respective match-ups, to get nicer odds

Ruud and Ruusuvuori met two times so far and both of their previous encounters have gone Ruud’s way in dominant fashion; in straight sets at the 2020 U.S. Open and 6-2, 6-2 earlier this year in Barcelona.
That most recent result is especially unsurprising because Ruud is one of the best clay-courters in the world and Ruusuvuori is more comfortable on hard courts. The Finn needed five sets to get past a struggling Ugo Humbert on Tuesday, so that is not ideal preparation for a much tougher second round matchup.
Ruud also endured a difficult opener, but that wasn’t an easy situation for him in Tsonga's final match, who treated the home crowd to an impressive performance.
Ruud should now settle down and once again take care of business with ease against Ruusuvuori.

Simon produced a big surprise in the first round when he beat world no. 18 Careno Busta.
At the end of this season he will retire. He may be able to give it his all in a last hurrah and go for another round with the home crowd behind him, especially that his opponent today is not scary on clay and certainly not in the same league as Careno Busta.

Sinner is by far the better player of these two. He reached the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo and Rome in preparation for Roland Garros.
In the first round he dominated Bjorn Fratangelo from start to finish.
Carballes Baena plays mostly at Challenger level.

The first sterner test for Nadal.
The Dutchman has done exceptionally well so far in this year's clay swing. He made his maiden quarterfinal appearance on the surface in Marrakech and finished as the runner-up to Holger Rune in ATP Munich earlier this month.
Unlike Nadal's first two opponents here, Jordan Thompson and Corentin Moutet, Van de Zandschulp has the form to trouble Nadal.
He beat Pavel Kotov and Fabio Fognini with little trouble. Van de Zandschulp has more firepower than Thompson and Moutet with which to hurt Nadal, and although he may not win this, I think that he will stay close enough.
Remains to be seen why the bookies offer similar lines in this match-up as they did in the previous rounds.

Norrie comes into the event off his first-ever clay-court title just last week in Lyon.
So far the Brit beat a couple of inexperienced (on the main tour) opponents, Manuel Guinard and Jason Kubler, in straight sets.
Norrie has won both of his previous matches on clay with Khachanov. The Russian is no clay-court specialist, but he holds his own on the dirt.
Khachanov’s clay results this year have not been something to write home about, but he did reach the semifinal in Belgrade. Also, he beat Careno Busta in Rome and then lost in 3 sets to Tsitsipas in the third round there.
At the French Open however, he's had good results. He made it to the second week in his first four main-draw appearances between 2017 and 2020, and his best result here was reaching the quarterfinal once in 2019.
I think this will be one of the longer matches.

Korda beat Alcaraz in 3 sets in Monte Carlo recently.
Alcaraz has had a stellar year so far, but he struggled with Ramos and nearly lost.
Korda has a much better serve than Ramos and I expect another tough match for Alcaraz.
Korda is a good clay-court player in his own right, certainly wasn’t intimidated by Alcaraz in their last meeting. He has enough game to make a match of this.

Last night at the Champions League final, Nadal appeared relaxed and we'll probably see him as relaxed in this match as well.
Nadal is looking like his normal French Open self. All the rib and foot problems prior to this tournament have been put to rest, at least for now, by his first three matches in which he administered beatdowns to his opponents.
Auger Aliassime had a complicated match against Krajinovic. Although the 3-0 win appears comfortable, it was actually a very tight 7-6 7-6 7-5 and more than 3 hours on court.

This is undoubtedly Zapata's best week of his career. Sitting at 131 in the world rankings, he had never beaten a top-30 player in a completed match before this campaign, but has now beaten Fritz and Isner in the last two matches, and for the first time in his career, the Spaniard has won more than two main-draw matches in a row in tour-level events.
Zverev, no. 3, is in another dimension altogether for Zapata.
For Zverev this should be a comfortable matchup.
Bernabe Zapata Miralles will be playing his first match against a top-5 player.

Early prices were Ruud 13/20 with Hurkacz at 5/4. Ruud is firming but I don't see it. My read is the prices are based on their long term form but Ruud has not looked good here. Unconvincing against Joe W with three tie breakers and Sonego took him to five. My take is Hurkacz will present him with a similar problem to Tsonga but with better mobility and ground strokes. Closer to choice here. The games line has been set at 39.5. If pushed I would short that but not going there as enough meat on the match odds

Rune is only 19 but has not fulfilled expectations. He won the French Boys Open so clay is his surface but he has struggled with fitness - usually cramps. Thus far he has breezed through three matches here without dropping a set or looking in any physical trouble. A Rune without cramps could run Tsitsipas close in a few sets.

Zverev v Alcaraz
These players met last month on clay and Alcaraz won 1 and 3. Saw an amazing stat (unchecked) that Zverev has lost 11 straight matches against top 10 players in the slams. Scary
I would not write off the chances of Zverev doing something special here because he does have the game so my call is a reasonably easy win`for one or the other

With much hesitation I'm writing my bet for this match, seeing what Vann has posted.
Not very often, but once in a while we do have the odd opposite bet.
Although both players cruised into the quarter-finals, both of them faced a tough test so far, Zverev 3-2 against Baez, and Alcaraz 3-2 against Ramos, both in the second round.
Alcaraz may hold a mental edge because of his demolishing of Zverev in Madrid recently.
However, I think that Zverev will be a different player than he was in Madrid. We rarely see two players who met before, recently or not, repeating the same result. Quite often we see the win going the other way.
At his level and class, I do expect Zverev to have learnt what he has to do so that at least he will give a better impression. I doubt that we will see the one way traffic we saw in Madrid, and I think we will see a long match, as Alcaraz is in too good a form to lose in 3 sets, if he does lose.

And here's my Nadal biased bet
So they changed the schedule to play at night time and did not consider, did not even pretend they took the time to think about Nadal's request to have the match played during the day.
OK.
Let's get past all the things that everybody knows, Djokovic in great form, Nadal not in as good a form as he used to be, Nadal's current injuries, etc.
Nadal is in better form than last year when he lost in 4 sets to Djokovic here.
Two years ago Nadal demolished Djokovic in the semifinals here. Two years ago Nadal was going through injuries as well. He's been playing with injuries for many years now.
Again, two years ago Nadal was not in as great a form as he used to be.
And... two years ago the match was played in the Paris autumn, 12th October, at night, when conditions would have been probably worse than a night time match in Paris spring-summer.
OK, for the sake of argument let's say similar conditions like tonight.
Nadal said that he is giving his all in every match, as it may be his last, because of his foot injury.
These being said, I made myself believe that Rafa can make a match of this and stay in the game long enough to give us some money on this bet.
That is if he doesn't go ahead and wins this in 3 quick sets like 2 years ago (in similar or worse conditions), in which case I don't care if the bet wins or loses.
