What a crazy weekend of rugby lies ahead but 1st a wrap of last week

Note we have a separate Varsity Cup thread

Unfortunately LoadShedding and power failures meant I had the newsletter typed but could not send it

As tweeted my best bet was Sharks over 26.5 which arrived after looking dead at the break. Sadly I then lumped onto Bulls overs and at half time total overs at Loftus. I was well down for the 2nd week in a row and I am sure many of you have had that feeling where you feel like the enjoyment of betting is ebbing away. I had 2 choices, shut up shop or fire a "get out of jail" bet onto the final URC match.

I did what every self respecting punter would do and went "All In"

I had liked Leinster -24.5 on the show but the line had shifted to 30.5 and instead I fired over 42.5 Leinster points. This was literally a bet that had it missed I would have had to shut up shop and I didn't even share it as wanted no one else to go down with me.

After an early try Leinster reached 26 points at the break only to go to sleep with a strong wind at their back. I had given up when they went over in the last move of the game to reach 43 points exactly. I live to fight another day although have some demons to address.

Anyways onto this weekend where we start with 6 Nations and the current caps

Italy +21.5 v Ireland
Wales +3.5 v England
France -8.5 v Scotland

Perhaps a slight leaning to England -3.5

Super Rugby Pacific gets going Friday and here are handicaps at WSB

Crusaders -7.5 v Chiefs
Waratahs +4.5 v Brumbies
Moana Pasifika +1.5 v Fijian Drua
Highlanders +7.5 v Blues
Reds +2.5 v Hurricanes
W Force -4.5 v Rebels

Then we have 2 local URC teams playing make up matches- here are my projected caps

Sharks -7.5 v Ulster
Lions +5.5 v Glasgow

Then there is also Gallagher Prem

Guys we are running a big competition on the Forum this week - details being worked out but here is a teaser

The winner will get a R3000 Free bet on the rugby World Cup winner market
Second place will get a R1000 free bet on the rugby World Cup outright market
3rd place will get R500 same market

If we get 50+ entries first place will be R10k for the outright market and u can only use this on one team not on multiple

You will need a Pokerbet account so open one with our 6 Nations sponsors at this link if you don't yet have one tinyurl.com/pokerbetgftg

The competition will be run on the GFTG Forum - if you do not have an account CLICK HERE TO OPEN ONE

From looking on Twitter it was a tough rugby betting weekend. I was in similar boat, punted the 2 SA games and took a hit. Fired one of those all in bets on Liverpool shots to try recover and scraped in by a hair. Then today Portugal Romania overs got things back into the black. Gives some momentum into this mega rugby week ahead.

I’ve gone early on one game -

Reds v Canes

Canes -2.5 @ 10/11

I feel the Reds are going to miss a few key injured players and don’t have the depth just yet to cover. Canes have a bit to prove this year and I like the balance in their squad.

I agree Southpaw - the one Super Rugby play that sticks out to me so far is Canes -2.5.

Reds missing Taniela Tupou and have a lock shortage. Moving Seru Uru into the second row will make them more mobile but will impact their scrum. Stable backline, but Canes definitely have the X-Factor to run the Reds ragged.

The game is also in Townsville and not at Suncorp. Looks like some stormy activity due there this weekend so might be muggy conditions.

After the Ospreys bloodbath on Friday I didn't watch any rugby for the rest of the weekend or make any bets. Fair play to Munster, they were great.

New week and ready to go again. Looking forward to Superrugby.

I like the Chiefs +7.5 at 9/10 a lot and IMO this should be a choice game, even though it's a Crusaders home game.

Also like the Waratahs +4.5 and Drua to win against Pasifika. Have taken the trebble.

Main bet Chiefs +7.5 at 9/10

Let the battle begin www.twitter.com/hanrickswart

Hello everyone,

do you know when the boks of the sharks will be back?

They have been in the fridge for almost a month.

Yes, they come back against Ulster this weekend, its risk of stinging for the Irish who are diminishing because of the 6 nations tournament.

UPDATE: HOLDING FIRE UNTIL TEAMS FOLLOWING FITNESS NEWS ON FINN SMITH AND GEORGE FURBANK - Just keep an eye out

Taking an early play on Northampton -3 (Have seen some books for -2, so keep an eye out)
I use a bookie that allows me to cash out, so if you'd like to wait until closer to teams then go for it if you cant.

England have just released
- RIbbans
- Dingwall
- Freeman
- Plus after Ford was selected over Finn Smith, Smith has been with NH all week this time
All three should start for Northampton

Gloucester will lose Chris Harris and Rees-Zammit from their squad this week. With fair weather predicted I think NH will open up again and keep the ball away from the forwards.

-3 is fair value here, I had expected 4.5 to 5.5

Very little movement in the 6 Nations handicaps although England -4.5 from -3.5 at Sunbet

Super Rugby also stable although Waratahs +1.5 from +4.5 against Brumbies

URC caps are not far off mine

Sharks -8.5 (I was -7.5) and Lion +2.5 (I was +5.5)

I now see Wales +6 Evens.

Assuming the players don't go on strike then I guess they will have a lot to prove on Saturday?!

EDIT: Game is on - I'm thinking one of these side will win comfortably, but I have no idea which! Wales definitely capable of beating the Orc at home, just depends on their frame of mind. Going to be very interesting!

6N u20’s

Double @ 5/2

Wales over 17.5 points vs England

England u20’s have conceded over 17.5 points in all of their last EIGHT games, and while Wales only scored 17 points last week, they scored over that in their previous six games

Ireland v Italy over 50.5 points

All 4 games involving these teams have gone over this so far. In particular, Ireland games have been over 50.5 in 12 of last 13 games, with 8 of them over 60 points

Also taking a smaller bet on over 62.5 points at 16/5 in the Ireland game

It’s 6:22 am, I’m having my third Castle lite as I watch Moana vs Fiji go over 7 tries in the first half and 2 things occur to me early in the season.

1. The new rules are tailor made for overs betting. If we keep our powder dry and target the right games Super Rugby pacific is an absolute gold mine.

2. I’m NEVER waking up this early for any URC fixture

Agree with your comments Mondo - I used to call it bookmakers lag - that opportunity to capitalise before the bookies adjust - they do adjust much quicker these days though

Preview pick Blues over 30.5 banked already - wow - they could get 80 here if they dont ease up

Brilliantt to watch

Following you Brent on the over 50.5 @ 10/11 in joburg.

I was actually eyeing out sharks overs in Durban but will have a rethink on that one as humidity now has me worried and maybe some rain about.

Pretty much square on the weekend unfortunately , been some great calls though and congrats lads .

I had large wagers on Wales plus 8.5 and Rebels plus 5.5 , both looked good at times but didn't arrive in the end .

I've gone under unders in the Exeter match at 49.5 points and under 50.5 in the French game as my interests for the day .

I'm up so far on the weekend despite losing with my beloved Wales (best side on the day won blah blah blah but as some one said, 2 shit sides but one turd had a bit of glitter on, England) ....

I'm hoping for no score in the 1st ten mins in the French game then I'll go overs - you would think these two sides would produce points fairly freely??

Stiff Coil. Like most games there are punters on opposite side and that final try was a huge swing in favour for my weekend. Haven’t sworn within earshot of the kids for a while but geez when he went over I swore with massive relief!
