There was some crazy results in week 1 of the Champions and Challenge Cup with Quins coming back to defeat Racing away in a great game, the 2nd string Stormers pushing Leicester all the way, Lyon coming back from the dead to lead only to lose to Bristol at the death, Exeter beating Toulon away, Bayonne drawing to Munster away having been 21 point dogs and the Cheetahs hammering Zebre.

Overall I had a good weekend although gave back on Sunday with the Leicester over tries bet. The Newsletter Best Bet unders in the Bulls game landed (thanks Coil) and I had nice wins on the Cheetahs and Sharks.

Going to have a go at handicapping next weeks fixtures a tough ask without team news

Bayonne +6.5 v Glasgow
Northampton -4.5 v Toulon
Saracens -15.5 v Connacht
Stormers -3.5 v La Rochelle
Bordeaux -10.5 v Bristol
Leinster -14.5 v Sale
Lyon -4.5 v Bulls
Cardiff +7.5 v Bath
Ulster +4.5 v Racing
Exeter -7.5 v Munster
Harlequins +1.5 v Toulouse
Stade Francais +1.5 v Leicester

Here are my projected caps for the Challenge Cup SA games only

Lions -10.5 v Falcons
Cheetahs +8.5 v Sharks

Enjoy the week and a reminder The Handicap will be back next year

I am waiting for points lines for main play but a nibble at Lions 5/1 for now

Credit to Coil for the Newsletter Unders bet arriving in Bulls game - a very good day in the end and looking forward to some Sunday 7's and XV action

Thank you, thank you, thank you Brenty.

There I was sitting staring at the biggest loss-making weekend I'd had in a long while on Sunday morning, not far off feeling sick to my stomach, and thinking 'stop now, don't throw good money after bad'.

But then the other voice (left shoulder) said 'just take a look anyway, because nothing's going with form, you should try and catch something back at least'. Furthermore you'd posted some more previews which I was reading, super depressed reading 'over' this, and 'under' that, which I don't play

And out of nowhere, I get my eye caught on 'Lions nibble at 5/1'. That's it, I thought.

I think that's great odds 5/1, if any French team can be beat at home it's Perpignon, and if any SA team can and should beat them at their home, it's the Lions. In fact the Lions will beat them.
Long story short, I pumped the win, the lowest minus (-3.5) I could get, and just for good measure I thought 'Fuckit, take win by 13+ also.

Boom.:P :woohoo:
Watched the game and knew I'd be getting some loot back after first 10 minutes.
Long story short again, I amazingly recovered as near as damnit 75% of what I'd lost on the mighty, mighty Lions.

Thanks so much bud :beer :beer

My Skipper (wife) asked me why I was smiling in my sleep, but I held my tongue - some things she need not know  :woohoo: :woohoo:

I agree with you Brent in most of your projected hándicaps except from Bayonne. They are a very tough team to play against at home and, if they take the competition seriously, they should beat Glasgow at Jean Dauger.

There may have been some movement already - all caps out with WSB - their in brackets - big differences 5 or more points in red, 3-5 in orange

Bayonne +6.5 (-4.5) v Glasgow
Northampton -4.5 (-5.5) v Toulon
Saracens -15.5 (-17.5) v Connacht
Stormers -3.5 (-4.5) v La Rochelle
Bordeaux -10.5 (-15.5) v Bristol
Leinster -14.5 (-24.5) v Sale
Lyon -4.5 (-6.5) v Bulls
Cardiff +7.5 (+8.5) v Bath
Ulster +4.5 (-0.5) v Racing
Exeter -7.5 (-2.5) v Munster
Harlequins +1.5 (+1.5) v Toulouse
Stade Francais +1.5 (-6.5) v Leicester

Some big difference's but the fact that I do not follow Top 14 and Premiership closely is a factor

Bayonne you were spot on Pablo
The one I like the most is Souths Racing to win at Ulster and I also like the Exeter -2.5

Caught up with Harry Jones to make some Rugby World Cup 2027 Predictions and in the words of the old Castle Lager advert lets' see if they "stand the test of time"

Harry has done some really interesting work on RWC knockout experience and age in 2027

Harlequins (+2.5) win over Toulouse.

Wrong favourite. Quins the better side, and at home.
Toulouse away record is 1 from 5, and the 1 was Oyonnax by 6.
Granted they didn't have their marque players for most of these, but nevertheless.

Friday Challenge Cup, Scarlets v Black Lion +16.5 (Sunbet) 1.82 This is a solid bet, not so ?

However, Scarlets aren't a very good team (2 wins from 7), and they know that they have a derby match next week, also at home, against the visiting Ospreys. This is an old rivalry, and they will have one eye on it already, as the away derby at Ospreys they lost by 22 points, 3 weeks ago.

The Georgians on the other hand, held Gloucester last week down to a 5 pointer. They know also that this is as good a chance as they're getting to pick up an away W.
So the away W is 6.50. the over 8 market is 21.00, and the 13+ is 25.00 at Sunbet.

Let that sink in for a bit :P
Greedy ? Dreaming ? yes probably, but I can't resist it

I'm telling myself that it's on, and I'm putting my money where my mouth is :woohoo: :woohoo:

Good luck guys :beer :)

Brent's on a well earned holiday so I'm babysitting the preview picks this week. In the Champions Cup I'm thinking the Stormers first game back at Greenpoint can cover the cap against La Rochelle and I'm with the Bulls on the plus at Lyon (think a losing bonus point would be a quite acceptable return for the Bulls)

Stormers v La Rochelle preview

goodforthegame.co.za/European-Rugby/stor...review-and-tips.html

Stormers -4.5 points at 9/10 widely available

Lyon v Bulls preview

goodforthegame.co.za/European-Rugby/lyon...review-and-tips.html

Bulls +7.5 points at 19/20 with WSB

Still no betting or teams for Saturday's Challenge Cup fixtures so will do those later

Last weekend was tough - some wins in the 7s bailed me out.
Will just try a few this weekend.
I like Kirky's Black Lions on +

I fancy La Rochelle to turn over Stormers..ie, on the assumption that they go fully loaded v Stormers.
Neither side has really hit their straps, but expect ROG will have his side fired up after their home loss.

Woeful game at Northampton and thankfully didn’t get carried away on stakes. Time to close shop on the NH based games until warmer times and just focus on the games being played in SA, only ones that I can get a decent read on.

I didn't think they were that good but Llanelli were awful - don't know what's happened to them, they were a good side pre COVID but now utter shite. BL didn't win a lineout in the 1st half and yet they went into the break ahead!

Newcastle have made a raft of changes from last weeks 5 point loss to Montpellier.

Only a small handful of senior players have travelled. No Chick, Hawkins, Cross, Orlando, Radwan, Jennings, Blamire etc

Be careful with your bankroll here.

Well done Kirky !! I'll be watching them Black Lions , nice to see a newbie doing well .

Next up Leinster and will be hoping they smash Sale to pieces and in effect pay for BG's holiday LOL and pay for my Christmas gammon . On minus 28.5 and Leinster over 43.5 also .

Have had a small bet on the Dragons believe it or not plus 11.5 .

They'll get torn apart by a decent side. Their No8 and 10 looked good but the rest of them looked like unemployed bricklayers.

Looks like Brent is coming home early! :-o

two double blows to ensure I start Sunday on the back foot , still had hope that Leinster might get that 43.5 points but instead it was Sale that scored a blinder in the last few seconds .
Then like a lab rat I followed Racing plus 5.5 in running and 12.5 in running , awful performance and Ulster were deserved winners .

So into today and as a Munster man myself I have to go Munster after last week's disappointment , Exeter also dished me out to a good spanking away in France last week and at home have been very good , so lining up for more egg and I've gone under 47.5 and plus 1.5 Munster ...... Munster vulnerable of course but it's more hope than what I've seen .

Going Montpellier minus 8.5 and closing my eyes .

Crippled , one done Jamison , did a fortune with intercept , meant nothing TMO tried to overturn and cunt ref left it go . It's either behind the last foot or not and he wasn't. .

Yeah tough 10mins to stomach.
I am Munster too but tend to avoid punting them through a red mist.
Raynal chickened out of a yellow and then the offside intercept. Not Exeter's fault - they rode their luck and fair dues. But still much improved from us

Bad luck. Looked strange as the back foot was one leg sticking out by itself about 3 foot from the main ruck! Would have been a draw if that had been called back which I also had cash on. All I would say is that the ref favoured Munster at the end of the 1st half so maybe things evened up? Didn't see that coming though.....

Meanwhile my luck continues - I doubled up in live play there too, on Exeter +8.

Now on Quins +2 @evens.

Leinster overs killed me and then flew into Racing

I like Leicester to win but by then had thrown in the towel
