Currie Cup & Tri Nations, Week 2 Betting Update Print E-mail

Western Province and the Sharks shorten in the Currie Cup outright betting while New Zealand all but clinch the Tri Nations title without Australia having even kicked a ball.

Tri Nations Update

The All Blacks came away from Wellington with another 5 pointer to put the nail very firmly into the Boks Tri Nations coffin and judging by the betting all but wrap up the tournament. I did suggest that the 11/20 available before Saturday’s match on the AB’s lifting the trophy was a great multiple filler and so it has proved with their price now a general 1/5.

Australia have moved ahead of the Boks as 2nd favourites but at a distant 7/1 the same price that they traded at a week ago but way longer than the 9/2 they were priced at before the tournament started.

This may seem harsh on the Aussies given they have yet to start their campaign but history shows that 4 try bonus points are hard to come by and with the All Blacks having picked up 2 of these already and Australia playing two matches in South Africa I am actually surprised you can still get 1/5 the All Blacks.

Any Bok fans think their team can rise from the ashes are welcome to the 8/1 generally on offer.

This week the Boks take on Australia down under and it appears from the early quotes as though this will be virtually a choice match. Our betting preview of the game will be in our Rugby section on Thursday morning – don’t miss it.

Currie Cup Update

The Bulls were soundly beaten by the Sharks in Durban and World of Sport have reacted by pushing their price out to 2.17/1 (from 1.82/1 a week ago) and they remain weak favourites with WP in to 24/10 at Betxchange from 28/10 after week 1. Province scored a comfortable enough win against the Lions but their failure to have bagged the bonus point try would have been noted by layers and punters alike.

The Sharks are the big forward movers in the betting having bounced back emphatically from their Kimberley defeat and having been 4/1 they are now into 3/1 with Betxchange.

The Cheetahs are back on track and are back into 7.15/1 with World of Sport from 8/1 last week while the Lions have drifted from 12/1 back out to 25/1 with Betxchange which is more or less where they started.

Our Currie Cup previews for week 3 will be posted on Goodforthegame on Friday morning.

Note: A number of bookmakers had still to price up at the time of writing
