Super 14 Week 4 Betting Update

The Bulls remain favourites to defend their Super 14 title as they retained top spot on the log despite having a bye in week 4. The Crusaders have ominously firmed in the betting though with the Chiefs and Hurricanes on the drift.

The Bulls could hardly have asked for a better set of results with the Chiefs and Hurricanes losing their unbeaten records leaving them the only team yet to taste defeat.

Local bookmaker Mbet has updated their prices and the Bulls are as they were last week at 28/10.

The Crusaders have had their odds clipped from 7/2 to 3/1 after a convincing win over the Blues in Christchurch and the Brumbies are now clear 3rd favourites at 5/1 a point in from the 6/1 on offer last week. This shortening is more as a result of those around them having bad weeks as opposed to their performance against the Lions which was disappointing even given the wet conditions.

The Chiefs have drifted slightly to 8/1 from 7/1 after their shock defeat at home to the Reds with the Hurricanes tumbling down the boards to 9/1 from 5/1 just 7 days ago. The reason for that of course is their lackluster 12-28 defeat to the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The Stormers have firmed slightly thanks to their bonus point win over the Highlanders at Newlands and they are 9/1 having been available at 12/1 after week 3.

Looking further down the list the Waratahs continue to hang around at 16/1 having scraped a win over the Sharks and the Blues at 28/1 and Reds at 40/1 are the only others in the betting that are worth mentioning.

The Reds price has been particularly volatile with 100/1 available pretournament, 40/1 after the Crusaders victory, 300/1 after the Blues defeat and now 40/1 again following their stunning come from behind win in Friday’s opener.
