Super 14 Week 5, Betting Update
Written by Brent Graham

The Bulls and Crusaders have both firmed in the betting after week 5 action in the Super 14.

Both of the frontrunners delivered impressive performances with the Crusaders always having the measure of the Chiefs in Hamilton while the Bulls dominated the Highlanders before stepping off the gas to win by 15 (a result that has left many a handicap punter fuming as they were backed through the 16.5 level all the way to -21.5).

Mbet have the teams joint favourites at 5/2 with the Bulls in slightly from 28/10 a week ago and the Crusaders shortening from 3/1 but you can get 2.67/1 the Crusaders with World of Sport.

The Brumbies are stable at 5/1 after getting out on the right side of a shaky performance against the Sharks while the Stormers are into a tournament low of 7/1 on the back of their bonus point demolition of the Hurricanes. The Cape side were 9/1 just a week ago and supporters and backers alike will hope that they can humble the Cheetahs at Newlands this weekend before heading off on tour (check out this thread in our forum for comment on the early prices due out later today)

The Chiefs odds continue to lengthen and they are now 12/1 from 9/1 after suffering back to back home defeats but the real losers are the Hurricanes who have been taken out to 16/1 after yet another bonus point loss in South Africa.

The Waratahs are still in the hunt at 16/1 the same price as they were before their crushing of the Lions and the Reds are in from 40/1 to 28/1 (having been 300/1 at one point) after their impressive 7 try win over the Force.

The Blues are hanging in there at 50/1 with World of Sport out from the 28/1 last week despite having a bye and the Sharks are the first of the contenders to be written off after their 5th defeat in a row. The Durban team is out to 80/1 at Mbet from 28/1 having been quoted in single figures in the early betting.
