Aljamain Sterling v Sean O’Malley

Aljamain Sterling

Despite the record book showing Sterling has won his last nine fights, those fights were not all smooth sailing, with two split decisions and one disqualification victory in that stretch. Sterling is a very well-rounded fighter, with wrestling his main strength. That doesn’t mean striking is a weakness though, as he can still hold his own on his feet.

Sean O’Malley

Since joining the UFC, Sean O’Malley has only lost one fight, which most argue was from a freak injury that he obtained during the fight. O’Malley’s striking is his clear strong point, with four of his five last victories coming from a TKO/KO. He is also very capable when it comes to his wrestling capabilities, but it is one of his weaker attributes.

PREDICTION

Despite it is not being a major difference, O’Malley does have both a 1” longer punching and leg reach. This in combination with his striking skills has me thinking O’Malley should beat Aljamain by TKO/KO before the fourth round.

Zhang Weili v Amanda Lemos

Zhang has won two of her last four fights with her most recent win being over Carla Esparaza by submission. Her striking is one of her strong points, which was seen in her TKO/KO win against Jedrzejczyk.

Lemos, who is known as a powerful striker, has won three of her last four fights, with one of those wins coming by submission. This shows her wrestling is not a weak point and she has strong all-round skills.

PREDICTION

Zhang’s experience and striking ability will be too much for Lemos to handle, resulting in a round three TKO/KO.

Neil Magny v Ian Garry

Ian Garry has twelve wins and no losses in the UFC, with seven of those wins being by KO/TKO, showing he is a very powerful striker. Magny on the other hand only has two wins in his last four fights with one win being a split decision and the other a win by submission.

PREDICTION

Magny has not been very convincing in his last few fights and up against Garry’s striking ability I can only see one winner here and I think Garry ends the fight with a TKO/KO in the second round.

Marlon Vera v Pedro Munhoz

Marlon Vera is a well-rounded fighter, who has won three of his last four fights, with two of those wins by KO/TKOs.

Pedro Munhoz on the other hand is a stronger wrestler but he has won only one of his last four fights.

PREDICTION

Despite Munhoz’s wrestling capabilities, Vera’s all-round skills should win him this fight by unanimous decision.

Da’Mon Blackshear v Mario Bautista

Mario Bautista, who is very fast and powerful striker, has won his past four fights. Three of these fights were won by submission showing he is also a very capable and dangerous wrestler. With a slight lack of technical ability, Blackshear makes up for it with his strength and skill on the ground, which have given him wins in two of his last three fights.

PREDICTION

With Bautista showing his wrestling capabilities in his past few fights I think he will get the better of Blackshear despite the latter’s physical strength and I think Bautista wins by submission in the third round.

THE DONS PICKS

Sean O’Malley to win inside the distance at 3/1

Magner v Garry under 2.5 rounds at 19/20

At the time of writing there were no alternative markets on the Vera and Weili fights so I am taking them in a win double at 9/10:

Marlon Vera to win at 9/20 onto Zhang Weili to win at 3/10 - Double 9/10
