Durban Super Giants

 

The Super Giants missed their first opportunity to seal a place in the final when they went down to the Sunrisers by 51 runs in the first qualifier staged at Newlands. Sunrisers posted 157/8 and DSG collapsed to 106 all out in reply.

 

DSG finished the regular season with a record of 7 wins and 3 defeats and they were on or around the top of standings throughout the tournament. Their 2 meetings with JSK delivered a 37 run victory at Kingsmead and in their final match of the round robin JSK turned the tables with a 7 wicket victory.

Joburg Super Kings

 

JSK stayed alive with a 9 wicket win over Paarl Royals in the Eliminator at this venue on Wednesday. Sam Cook with 4/24 helped restrict the Royals to 138 all out and Faf du Plessis (55 not out) and Leus du Plooy (68) continued their fine recent form as JSK coasted home in 13.2 overs.

 

The Super Kings secured the last of the play off places in the regular season with a 7 wicket win over today's opponents Durban Super Giants at this venue on Saturday. Opening pair Faf du Plessis and Leus du Plooy both scored 57 and Wayne Madsen was unbeaten on 44 as JSK chased down the 204 needed for victory with a ball to spare.

 

JSK finished the regular season with 3 wins alongside 5 defeats and 2 no results andt they finished in fourth spot.

The Verdict

 

The JSK openers have played a huge role in getting their side into the play offs and through to the second qualifier and their last 2 wins both came on home turf.

 

I'm still of the opinion the DSG have the greater hitting power though and I will go with them to hit the most sixes.
