Race 1

MAX THE MAGICIAN made the expected natural improvement when third over 1160m on the Standside course last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day suggests that he will love the step up to 1450m. The son of What A Winter is a progressive type and from his good draw of two, he should be the horse to beat.

COPPER JOHN produced a decent debut effort over 1000m on this course. He would have come on from the run and should enjoy the extra distance on offer. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

MOOLA MAN is an unraced son of Lancaster Bomber from the Stuart Pettigrew yard and the booking of jockey Gavin Lerena is a positive. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market is the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers in this contest.

Race 2

RED HOT ROSE produced an eye-catching debut effort over 1160m on the Standside course. She was slow into stride, but finished her race off strongly. The daughter of Flower Alley would have gained from the experience and will love the extra distance on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.

KOMESANS PASSION has produced two decent efforts to date. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 1450m. From pole position, she should be the one to fill the exacta spot.

MISS SHAIVI finished 2.55 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms this afternoon and she may have to settle for the same result.

Race 3

HEART OF ETERNITY should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the final 150m. Her debut effort over 1000m on this course, catches the eye. Gavin Lerena retains the ride from pole position and if keeping on a straight line, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

CONVOCATION showed some signs of needing her comeback run over 1400m on the Standside course. She would have come on from the outing and will strip a much fitter horse. In this type of field, she is one of the leading contenders.

LOOK TO THE STARS showed good improvement in her last start with the tongue-tie fitted. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She will strip a much fitter horse and with a bit of luck, can finish in the placings.

Race 4

This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is MAGIC PRINCE from the Mike de Kock stable. He has fair form lines to his name and has shown signs of needing his last two outings after the gelding. The son of Willow Magic will be at peak fitness and from his good draw of three, he may be the one to side with.

EDWARD RYE was disappointing in his last start. It must be noted that Back In Business has come out and won again since. He produced a promising debut effort over 1160m and if finding the form of that race, he should pose a threat.

SMELTING showed good speed over 1000m last time, but was caught late by Western Wishes. She has finished second three times and third once from five starts over this C&D. Apprentice Siyanda Sosibo takes the 2.5kgs off her back and she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 5

IMPERIAL MASTER should have finished closer to Shangani last time as his pilot dropped his reins at the 200m mark. He has finished second once and third twice from as many starts on this course. The son of Master Of My Fate should have no issues with the step up to 2600m and he can notch up his fifth career victory.

BANHA BRIDGE has very good consistent form lines to his credit. He moved up like a winner last time, but was outrun late by King Of Rome. The son of Flower Alley tries the 2600m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

FLYING FIRST CLASS is better than her last start in the Non-Black Type Sun Chariot Handicap. She has won three times, finished second once and third twice from as many starts over this C&D. Gavin Lerena takes the ride and he may be able to get the best out of her.

Race 6

CELESTIAL CITY ran on powerfully when winning his last start over 1600m on this course. He has finished second twice from as many starts over this distance. The son of Silvano has ability and will be looking to keep his unbeaten record on this course intact.

TOFFAS finished 1.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. However, CELESTIAL CITY won easier than the official margin suggests and may still have the upper hand.

CLIMATE CONTROL ran a fair race in the Listed Derby Trial last time. He finished third in his only attempt over this distance. On best form shown, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 7

EAGLE ALLEY showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1450m on this course. He jumped inwards leaving the starting stalls, but the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. The son of Silvano takes a slight drop in class and if confirming his recent improvement, he may be the one to beat.

OYSTER KING has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has won twice, finished second four times and third once from eight starts over this C&D. He is carded to race on 16 March 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

GREGOR MACGREGOR finished 2 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights which is not enough for the tables to be turned.

Race 8

DANCETILDAYLIGHT produced a good local debut effort over this C&D, four weeks ago. She moved up like a winner, but was caught late by Texas Red. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is back against her own sex and with the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo, she can go one better. She is carded to race on 18 March 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

SOUTHERN SKIES was not disgraced when third in the Listed Swallow Stakes last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She shows good speed and may be hard to peg back.

MORAINE is much better than her last start suggests as she was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. She carries a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 9

TAYOOBA is better than her last start in the Grade 2 Debutante. She returns from a 33-week break during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Var has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. She has ability and if not in need of the run, she can make a winning return.

SECOND BREATH took on stronger in her last start over 1160m on the Standside course. She has won twice from six starts over this distance. On best form shown, she should be one of the leading contenders.

LOLLAPALOOZA produced a strong finish when winning her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She received a two-pound penalty for that victory and can follow up.

Race 10

WHATYOUWAITINGFOR ran on well when third over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Canford Cliffs jumps from pole position and she can return to winning ways.

METEORIC was ultra-impressive when winning her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo and can follow up

LIL MISS MONEYBAGS finished 4.25 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. She is only 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned. Gavin Lerena takes the ride and he may be able to get the best out of her
