Race 1

FAR REACHING produced a promising debut effort over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. She was green in running but the manner in which she finished off her race was eye-catching. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The daughter of Vercingetorix would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should go one better.

VALIEVA ran a good race when second against winners in her last start over this C&D. The daughter of Var is a progressive type and with S’manga Khumalo retaining the ride, she should be competitive.

KINDRED HEART challenged strongly when second over 1200m on this course last time. She finished 0.75 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

Race 2

READY SET FIRE is lightly raced with decent form lines to his credit. He showed pace over this C&D last time, but was outrun late. He returns from a 12-week break, during which time he was gelded. If not in need of this outing, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

CHOCOLATE SOLDIER took his place in the Grade 2 TAB SA Nursery last time. He shows good speed in his races and should enjoy the drop to 1000m. The son of One World has scope and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

FRENCH BOLT is an unraced son of Var from the Stuart Pettigrew stable with Calvin Habib in the saddle. He is related to four-time winner Miss Cool. If not too green in running, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers in this contest.

Race 3

ENCHANTING LADY has consistent form lines to her credit. She received a bump leaving the start last time, but stayed on to finish second. The daughter of William Longsword meets the right field this afternoon and she may be rewarded.

MAGIC SECRET finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

WHAT A LUCY produced three decent efforts before given a 34-week break. She would have strengthened up during her time off the track. Lucky Houdalakis is no stranger to bringing his horses back to the track fit for their return and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 4

TAXHAVEN was not disgraced when fifth in the Grade 1 TAB SA Derby last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He received an 18-pound penalty for that effort. The son of Erupt is back in Maiden Company this afternoon and from pole position, he should be the one to beat.

KAROO GOLD has finished second in his last three starts. He should have won his last outing as he hung inwards in the final 400m. If keeping on a straight line, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

DARK SILVER has decent form lines to his credit. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from his awkward draw of eight and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

Race 5

I AM REGAL ran on strongly when winning her last start over 1800m at Turffontein. She received a four- pound penalty for that victory. The daughter of Canford Cliffs meets a similar field this afternoon and can follow up.

DONNA MO finished 1.9 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. She is the stable elect with Kabelo Matsunyane in the saddle and the combination merit healthy respect.

OPERA GLASS finished 3 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

Race 6

IDEAL FUTURE stayed on when second in her last start over 2600m on the Turffontein Inside course. She has won twice from four starts over this C&D. The daughter of Futura is back against her own sex today and can return to winning ways under 4kgs claiming apprentice Nirvan Nastili.

PRETTY IN PEARLS ran a fair race over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

CRIMSON FOREST showed some signs of a form return in her last start over 1800m at Turffontein. She finished second in her only attempt over this C&D. The daughter of Silvano can earn another cheque for her patrons.

Race 7

FOSTINOVO ran a decent race in his last start over this distance at Turffontein. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The son of Flower Alley takes a drop in class and despite his big mass of 62kgs, he may be the one to side with.

KING’S EXPRESS won a good race in his last start over this distance. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Nirvan Nastili and is one of the leading contenders.

TWO MILES WEST won a good race over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The son of Fire Away takes on stronger, but he has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 8

VIVA DE JANEIRO has good recent form lines to his credit. He took the lead at the 300m mark in a work riders race last time, but was outrun late by Volte Face. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts over this distance. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and he may be the one to beat.

PUTINS PROMISE finished 0.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.

KASHKAVAL took on stronger company in his last start on this course. He finished third in his only attempt over this distance. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and if finding the form of his penultimate run, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest
