FranceEuroThe second of Saturday's 2022 Fifa World Cup quarter finals sees England clash with France, both sides are unbeaten so far and the defending champions start as the favourites

England

England saw off Senegal 3-0 in the Round of 16. It was a pretty even game until Jordan Henderson opened the scoring on 39 minutes and a second from Harry Kane in first half injury time sent England into the break 2-0 to the good. Senegal might have felt hard done by with that scoreline but they never got in a blow in the second half and Saka added the third just before the hour which effectively ended the contest.

England topped Group B, unbeaten with 2 wins and 1 draw with USA runners up and Iran and Wales failed to make the cut.

Saka scored twice for England in the 6-2 win over Iran with the other goals coming from Bellingham, Sterling, Rashford and Grealish and 5 different players contributed assists.

England were really poor in their second match against the USA which ended without a goal but they were as good as through heading into their final group match against Wales which they won 3-0 (Rashford twice and Foden)

In the outright betting to win the tournament England are trading at around 6/1

France

Defending champions France eventually made pretty short work of Poland with a 3-1 win in the Round of 16. After a pretty even opening Giroud gave them the lead just before half time and 2 quality goals from Mbappe on 74 minutes and heading into injury time ended Poland's hopes before they scored a consolation from the penalty spot

France topped Group D with 6 points, ahead of Australia on goal difference with Tunisia third and Denmark fourth

Raibot, Giroud (twice) and Mbappe were the French scorers in the 4-1 win against Australia in their opening match. They saw off Denmark 2-1 next time out with Mbappe scoring both goals in the second half, either side of a Denmark equalizer.

France had already sealed a last 16 place regardless of what happened in their final group match against Tunisia. They made wholesale changes and Tunisia pulled off a surprise 1-0 win although France were denied an equalizer by VAR at the end of that game.

In the outright betting to win the tournament France are trading at around 4/1

The Betting:

England are 2/1 to win in regulation time with the draw at 23/10 and France can be backed at 1.35/1

A game of 3 goals or more (90 minutes) is prices at even money and it's 8/10 for both teams to score.

To qualify for the semi finals via any method England are trading at 11/10 and France are 7/10

The Verdict:

England have kept 3 clean sheets in 4 outings but they weren't overly tested defensively and with Mbappe and company in opposition on Saturday that is likely to change. I fancy England will be very competitive and I'm fancying extra time.

Rather than go with the draw “on the board” my gut feel is we will see goals so the Run of Play market comes onto the radar and Lead-Draw is my main play.

For a goalscorer, Mbappe will the ever popular and why not? though he might get extra attention from the English and I'll chance my arm with Griezmann.

Bets: Run of Play Lead-Draw at 33/10 with Sportingbet

Anytime goalscorer Antoine Griezmann at 26/10 with Sportingbet
