brazil18Fifa World Cup Group G gets under way on Thursday when Switzerland take on Cameroon and outright favourites Brazil open their campaign against Serbia

Switzerland 0.77/1 Draw 5/2 Cameroon 38/10

Switzerland

Switzerland topped their qualifying group, unbeaten with 5 wins and 3 draws which saw them finish 2 points clear of European champions Italy who failed to make these finals. Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania finished further back and the Swiss scored 15 goals and conceded just twice.

In Russia 2018 the Swiss made it to the last 16 where they lost to Sweden. In Euro 2021 Switzerland were a surprise package, making the knockout rounds where they ousted France before they bowed out to Spain on penalty kicks.

The Swiss are ranked 15th in the world and Murat Yakin is their coach.

Switzerland are trading at 100/1 to win the tournament and 5/1 to top this group

Cameroon

Cameroon won 5 and lost 1 of their group stage qualifiers to top their group ahead of Ivory Coast. That set up a 2 leg play off with Algeria and after losing the first leg 1-0 on home turf they won the return 2-1 (aet) thanks to a last gasp goal to squeeze through.

Cameroon hosted the AFCON finals earlier this year. They topped their group with 2 wins and 1 draw and had a favourable run to the semi finals where they were knocked out by Egypt.

Cameroon have a world ranking of 43 and they are trading at 250/1 to win the tournament and 18/1 to top this group

The Verdict:

The Swiss will view this as a must win game and whilst Cameroon have improved in recent years they are up against it in such a tough group.

I'm with the Swiss to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0.

Brazil 9/20 Draw 33/10 Serbia 6/1

Brazil

Brazil won 14 and drew 3 of their qualifying matches to top their group by 6 points with Argentina finishing as runners up. They scored all of 40 goals and conceded just 5 and they now bid to regain the trophy they last won in 2002.

In Russia 2018 Brazil were also drawn with Switzerland and Serbia. They drew 1-1 with the Swiss and beat Serbia 2-0 on their way to topping the group but after beating Mexico in the Round of 16 they lost 2-1 to Belgium in the quarter finals. More recently Brazil made it to the COPA America final where they lost to

Argentina.

Roberto Firmino failed to make the squad which does include Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus and 10 other English Premier League players plus Neymar.

Brazil are trading at 33/10 to win the tournament and 0.36/1 to top this group

Serbia

Serbia were another side to impress in qualifying, unbeaten with 6 wins and 2 draws to finish 3 points clear of Portugal who subsequently came through the play offs. Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan were further back and Serbia scored 18 goals whilst conceding 9.

Serbia were third behind Brazil and Switzerland in their Russia 2018 group and they are ranked 21st in the world. Dragan Stojkovic iss the coach.

Serbia are trading at 80/1 to win the tournament and 5/1 to top this group

The Verdict:

The group betting suggests there is little between Serbia and Switzerland so coming up against the favourites first time out will be a real test for the Serbs who could be dark horse material after scoring in all their qualifiers. However when you see the talent in that Brazil squad plus their record in qualifying it's tough to get away from the South American's.

Brazil to win and both teams to score? (yes) is my idea of the outcome.

Bets: Brazil to win and both teams to score? (yes) at 22/10 with Sportingbet
