Morocco

Morocco were the surprise winners of Group F, finishing with 7 points, 2 clear of Croatia with Belgium the big casualties in third with 4 points and Canada never got in a blow.

Morocco held Croatia to a 0-0 draw first time out and then pulled off a huge upset with a 2-0 win over Belgium. A 73rd minute goal from Saïss and an injury time strike from Aboukhlal downed the Belgians.

In their final group match against Canada Hakim Ziyech pounced on a goalkeeping error to give them a fourth minute lead, Youssef En-Nesyri doubled the advantage on 23 minutes and although Canada pulled a goal back just before half time there was no further scoring and the 2-1 win saw Morocco finish top.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Morocco are trading at around 100/1

Spain

Spain eventually finished as runners up to Japan in Group E. The Japanese finished with 6 points to Spain's 4, goal difference saw Spain finish above Germany who were eliminated and Costa Rica were fourth with 3 points.

Six Spanish players found the net in the 7-0 hiding of Costa Rica in their opening match and Ferran Torres helped himself to 2 of their goals. They had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Germany second time out. Morata broke the deadlock against the Germans just past the hour mark but they were pegged back.

In their final group match against Japan Morata scored early and at 1-0 at half time Spain seemed to be cruising into the last 16. Japan had other ideas and 2 early second half goals, 1 very controversial turned things around. Spain couldn't find a way back, they lost 2-1 but that goal difference was enough to see them advance and Germany went home.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Spain are trading at around 8/1

The Verdict:

After Senegal's loss to England on Sunday Morocco are the only African nation in with a chance of making the quarter finals but their reward for topping the group is this clash with Spain when they might have reasonably expected a more favourable task.

Conceding just the 1 goal in their group bodes well for Morocco but their defence will be tested again here and if Spain are on song it looks likely to be tough going.

I'm going with Spain's quality but expect a spirited effort from Morocco. Spain to win by a single goal margin in 90 minutes is my play.

Spain shared a bucket load of goals around against Costa Rica but Morata has subsequently emerged as one of their more likely scorers and he gets the vote to pop up anytime.

Bets: Winning margin, Spain by 1 goal exactly at 2.35/1 with Betway

Anytime goalscorer Alvaro Morata at 15/10 with Betway

Portugal 19/20 Draw 24/10 Switzerland 33/10 (90 mins)

Portugal

Portugal topped Group H with 6 points, South Korea finished on 4 points, edging out Uruguay on goals scored and Ghana with 3 points finished fourth.

Ronaldo (pen), Felix and Leao were the scorers in the 3-2 win over Ghana and Bruno Fernandes bagged a brace in the second half of their 2-0 win over Uruguay, the second from the penalty spot.

That assured Portugal of their place in the last 16 heading into their final group match against South Korea. Ricardo Horta gave them the lead in that game but it was 1-1 by half time and Portugal conceded again in injury time to go down 2-1.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Portugal are trading at around 12/1

Switzerland

Switzerland finished as runners up to Brazil in Group G with both sides on 6 points. Cameroon were third with 4 points and Serbia bottom with 1.

Embolo scored the winner for Switzerland against Cameroon (1-0) in their opening match.

Switzerland then set up defensively in their game against Brazil and they held out for 83 minutes but went down 1-0.

They still had to avoid defeat against Serbia to go through and the Swiss won that game 3-2 (2-2 half time) with goals from Shaqiri, Embolo and then Freuler found the winner in the second half.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Switzerland are trading at around 64/1

The Verdict:

Portugal are full of quality players and they may have taken their eye off the ball in their final group match. However Switzerland look like an awkward opponent to me, they weren't far off keeping Brazil out in the group stage and I expect them to be hard to break down.

I'm keeping an open mind on this one but regardless of who comes out on top I'm looking for 1-2 goals in total during normal time.

Bets: Multigoals 1-2 at 0.92 with Betway
