warriorst20The second of the semi finals in the Momentum One Day Cup sees the Dolphins host the Warriors at Kingsmead, Durban on Thursday.

Dolphins:

The Dolphins finished second on the log at the end of the round robin stage with a record of 5 wins, 4 defeats and 1 no result. Their playoff charge started early with 4 wins in the first 4 matches and Proteas call ups would have been a factor thereafter.

The Dolphins did lose to the Warriors in the first meeting this season, going down by 8 wickets (DLS) in a rain affected game at Kingsmead. They took revenge in Port Elizabeth as recently as last week with a 9 wicket victory, chasing down the Warriors bat first total of 223/9 in the 36th over.

Warriors:

The Warriors also started the tournament in terrific form with 4 wins and 1 no result in their first 5 matches. After that they suffered 4 consecutive defeats before sealing their play off spot with a 9 wicket win over the Cobras in their final round robin match. They finished just a single point behind the Dolphins in the standings with an identical record of 5 wins, 4 defeats and 1 no result but the Dolphins had secured an extra bonus point.

The Warriors shared the 1 Day Cup title with the Dolphins last season after no play was possible in the 2 days earmarked for the final.

Verdict:

Although the Warriors form tailed off in the round robin stage they have upset many favourites in this competition over this season and last and it would be danger to underestimate them. The match result is passed over and preference is for any century to be scored? (no) in what could be a tight match.
