indodiIndia are 2-0 up on Australia and in touching distance of a series win as the teams head into the third One Day International which takes place at Ranchi on Friday.

This series started in Hyderabad on Saturday and India came through with a 6 wicket victory and they followed up with an 8 run win at Nagpur on Tuesday to go 2-0 up with 3 to play.

Australia were much more competitive in the second contest and they were probably kicking themselves for not squaring the series. They bowled India out for 250 at Nagpur with Pat Cummins returning figures of 4/29 from his 9 overs. The target would have been far less had Virat Kohli not scored 116 of India’s runs but nonetheless Australia were and truly in the game.

The chase started well with Finch (37) and Khawaja (38) putting on 83 for the first stick well ahead of the asking rate. Both openers fell in quick succession and although Handscombe made 48, the required rate went up and it was left to Marcus Stoinis to take the game deep. As wickets around him tumbled Stoinis left his charge late and he was out off the first ball of the final over with Australia still 10 runs or so short and 2 balls later the game was over. Kuldeep Yadav was leading Indian wicket taker with 3/54.

This was how the teams lined up in Nagpur.

India: Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Vijay Shankar

Australia: Aaron Finch (c), Pat Cummins, Alex Carey, Shaun Marsh, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Peter Handscomb, Usman Khawaja, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa

Verdict:

Sixes came at a premium on Tuesday but conditions for batting could well be better here and there were signs of a revival in the form of Aussie skipper Finch who gets a speculative vote to score a 50
