ausodiMohali is the venue for Sunday’s fourth ODI between India and Australia and in terms of the series score, India are now 2-1 up with two to play.

India won the first 2 matches of the series by 6 wickets and then 8 runs but on Friday Australia pulled one back with a 32 run victory in Ranchi.

Friday’s match was Australia’s best with the bat as they posted 315/5. Openers Finch (93) and Khawaja (104) put on 193 for the first stick and at that stage 350 plus looked on. Maxwell added 47 and Stoinis was 31 not out at the end but India were still in the game with Kuldeep Yadav taking 3 of the 5 wickets to fall.

The Indian chase got off to a disastrous start with 3 early wickets going down. Skipper Kohli led the revival and went on to make another ODI ton but when he fell to Zampa with the score on 219 the pendulum swung back to the visitors. As the run rate headed past 9 more wickets fell and India were bowled out for 281 in 48.2 overs. Zampa, Cummins and Jhye Richardson all took 3 wickets.

Australia hit 7 maximums to India’s 4 and Khawaja was named Man of the Match.

This was how the teams lined up in Ranchi and note India have opted to rest MS Dhoni for the remainder of the series.

India: Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Vijay Shankar

Australia: Aaron Finch (c), Pat Cummins, Alex Carey, Shaun Marsh Jhye Richardson, Peter Handscomb, Usman Khawaja, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa

Head to Head

Verdict:

Australia look to be improving as the series goes on. After losing the opener they did threaten to win the second match and then broke their duck in the third. Confidence looks to be growing and the improvement in form of Finch the skipper is another plus.

With Virat Kohli in such great form it’s still a tough task facing the Aussies but they might just be a touch overpriced.
