kkr2019Kolkata Knight Riders clash with Kings XI Punjab in the IPL on Wednesday, a second home game for KKR who pulled off a sensational win at Eden Gardens on Sunday

Kolkata Knight Riders

This is the second home game in quick succession for the Knight Riders who were involved in an incredible match against the Sunrisers at this venue at the weekend. Tasked with chasing 182 for victory Nitish Rana made 68 but KKR fell behind the asking rate which soared well into double digits. Enter Andre Russell to smash 49 off 19 balls and the game turned around with KKR getting up with 2 balls to spare for a 6 wicket win. KKR hit 11 maximums in the chase but earlier their attack had struggled to keep the lid on the Sunrisers top order although Prasidh Krishna (2/31) was the pick of the 7 bowlers used.

Kings XI Punjab

The Kings XI travel again having opened their tournament away to Rajasthan Royals on Monday. They made a winning start, coming out on top by 14 runs although there was controversy with a well set Jos Buttler dismissed when the Royals were on course to chase down KXP’s bat first total of 184/4. Chris Gayle is the key man for the Kings XI and he came to the party early with an innings of 79 which included 4 of his sides 7 maximums whilst Ashwin’s 4 overs cost just 20 runs.
