Race 1

PARIS RAIN should have won his last start over 1600m on this course. He raced from a handy position, moved up well but was caught in the shadow of the post by Captain Corrupt. The son of Ideal World is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. If keeping on a straight line, he should go one better.

LABRAUSCO hails from the visiting Grant Maroun stable. He stayed on when fourth over this distance at Turffontein last time. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

FLAMING DRUM should have finished closer last time as he was carried inwards in the closing stages over this C&D. The son of Ideal World is a progressive type and with a bit of luck in running, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 2

BEYONDTHEBOUNDARY was given a strong ride when winning his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is in a good space and can follow up.

NORDIC REBEL makes the trip to KZN. He showed some signs of a form return in his last start over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course. He tries the 1800m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should pose a threat.

NEWS STREAM was a tad disappointing in the Non-Black Type Fever Tree Stakes last time. He takes a drop in class and if finding the form of his penultimate run, he should be competitive.

Race 3

ROCK FALL was running on when third over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes a drop in class and with the services of 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa, he should notch up his third career victory.

LEOPARD LADY finished 0.2 lengths behind RISE last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She tries the 2400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should go close.

RISE was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1950m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She received a five-pound penalty for that victory. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 4

IN THE ETHER is better than her last start suggests as she was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won once, finished second once and third three times from ten starts over this distance. The daughter of Announce takes a drop-in class and if all went well with her travels, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

VICTORY BELLE ran a good race when third over 1200m on the Polytrack last time. The partnership of Glen Kotzen and Ashton Arries are in fine form and with a bit of luck in running, the daughter of Rafeef should pose a threat.

FLYING THE STAR finished 2 lengths behind VISION OF WILL last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them at the wire.

Race 5

TIME FO ORCHIDS has been taking on strong company since winning her maiden. She is better than her last start over 1600m. Her penultimate run in the Grade 2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes catches the eye. The drop to 1000m should not pose a concern as she has won over 1100m in the past. She is having her first run for Alyson Wright and if settled into her new surroundings, she may be the one to beat.

AUNTY LIZZY won a good race in the Non-Black Type African Holly Handicap last time. She returns from a 12-week break and is having her first run for Lorenzo Karriem. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie is booked to ride and she cannot be ignored.

AMARANDI won a good race in her last start over this C&D. She has had a good prep leading up to this race and merits healthy respect.

Race 6

CANADIAN SUMMER was an easy winner in the Grade 3 Flamboyant Stakes last time. She raced from a handy position, quickened up well and drew clear of the opposition. The daughter of Oratorio returns from a 13-week break and this run will bring her on for future races. However, she has the class to notch up her fifth career victory.

AMEENA won a good race in the Grade 2 Golden Slipper last time. She returns from a 39-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She may need this run, but has ability and is one of the leading contenders.

MISS COOL ran a fair race in the Grade 3 Sycamore Sprint last time. She has won twice from three starts over this distance. The daughter of What A Winter will be mowing down the frontrunners.

Race 7

COUSIN CASEY had to overcome a wide draw of 14 when fifth in the Grade 1 WSB Cape Town Met last time. He was far from disgraced that day. The son of Vercingetorix is unbeaten from three starts on this course and two of those victories were over this distance. Grant van Niekerk makes the trip to do duty and the combination should start their KZN campaign on a winning note.

JIMMY DON ran on from last when second in the Grade 1 WSB SA Classic last time. He won his only attempt over this distance. He is in a good space and with racing fitness on his side, he should be competitive.

CAPTAIN CASEY has consistent form lines to his name. He returns from a 13-week break, during which time he was gelded. He is a horse with ability and should finish in the first three.

Race 8

CHARA SANDS showed good signs of a form return in his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He raced from just off the pace and rallied late to finish third. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He meets a similar field this afternoon and can return to winning ways.

STANLEY PARK was running on when third over this C&D last time. Nicholas Patel retains the ride and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

INTREPID has improved in his last two starts over 1200m. He has won three times, finished second once and third twice from eight starts over this distance. He gets the services of 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa which will help his cause
