Race 1

COSMIC STAR is one of the better bets on today’s card. He produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. Despite jumping awkwardly when leaving the start, the manner in which he finished off his race was eye-catching. The son of Erupt would have gained from the experience and will love the rise to 1160m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should go one better.

FORT LAUDERDALE finished 0.05 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. He is having his second run after a rest and will strip much fitter.

SAGAN made the natural progression when fourth over 1000m on the Inside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Var tries the 1160m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be competitive

Race 2

SUPREME DANCE ran a good race when second in his last start over 1800m on this course. He was unlucky that day as he was carried inwards in the closing stages. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. He meets the right field and with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride, he should notch up his fifth career victory.

TAMARISK TREE finished 3.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the tables.

ZUZAN ran on powerfully when winning his last start over 1800m on the Inside course. He does take a rise in class, but carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 3

BIG BURN is better than her last start as she was reported to be fatigued post race. Her form prior to that outing was good. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from as many starts over this distance. Her last two victories have come under 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo and on best form shown, she can return to winning ways.

BARTHOLDI was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 1 Pongracz Cape Flying Championship last time. He has won once, finished second twice and third twice from six starts on this course. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

BELLA CHICA showed good signs of a form return in her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth in that outing has come out and won since. She carries a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs and if confirming her recent improvement, she should be competitive.

Race 4

This is a competitive Middle Stakes field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is WHAFEEF from the Stuart Pettigrew stable. He did not switch off in the early stages of his last outing, but the manner in which he finished off the race was eye-catching. He has finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. The son of Rafeef will strip much fitter and from pole position, he can return to winning ways.

WILLOW EXPRESS finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

INDLAMU moved up like a winner last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Johnny Hero. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He will strip much fitter and is a big runner with Piere Strydom in the saddle.

Race 5

GOBSMACKED took the lead at the 300m mark last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Alula’s Star. She returns from an 18-week break during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Querari has plenty of class and if not in need of the run, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

MERCANTOUR was an easy winner in the Non-Black Type Gold Rush Sprint last time. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie retains the ride and he will be looking to keep that record intact.

QUANTUM THEORY produced a very good comeback run over 1160m on this course. He showed good speed, but was caught late by William Robertson. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He will strip a much fitter horse and merits healthy respect.

Race 6

TRIP OF FORTUNE ran a good race when third in the Grade 2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes last time. He raced from just off the pace, moved up well but was outrun late. His victory in the Grade 2 WSB Green Point Stakes, three runs ago catches the eye. He makes the trip up to the Highveld and if suited, he has the class to return to winning ways.

GOLDEN DUCAT was not beaten far in the Grade 1 WSB Cape Town Met last time. He has made his way up to Gauteng and is having his first run for Mike de Kock. Richard Fourie does duty and the pair cannot be ignored.

ANFIELDS ROCKET was ultra-impressive when winning the Grade 1 WSB SA Classic last time. He was slow into stride, but finished his race off strongly and won well. He does take on some classy older horses, but he receives his age allowance and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 7

BILLY BOWLEGS was doing his best work at the finish in the Grade 1 WSB SA Classic last time. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will be at home over the 2450m. The son of The United States has plenty of class and is the horse to beat.

EYE OF THE PROPHET should have finished closer in the race referred to above as he had to be steadied off heels at the 1400m mark. He should also not have any issues with the extra distance on offer. He is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field from his awkward draw of eight and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

ELECTRIC GOLD is better than his last start with the tongue-tie fitted. He was not disgraced when third in the Grade 2 WSB Gauteng Guineas in his penultimate run. It is encouraging that Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and the pair cannot be ignored.

Race 8

BLESS MY STARS was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic last time. She raced from a handy position, rallied late and held on where it matters most. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight should have no issues with the 2450m and with a bit of luck in running, she can follow up.

NONE OTHER finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. She tries the 2450m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she may have a say in the outcome of this contest.

SILVER HILLS stayed on when fourth in the Grade 1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the extra distance on offer. If jumping on terms, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 9

SHANGANI was an easy winner in his season debut over 2400m on this course. He set his own fractions up front, found another kick and drew clear of the opposition. He would have come on from the outing. The son of Soft Falling Rain has no stamina issues and if not affected by the second run after a rest, he should notch up his ninth career victory.

NEBRAAS has finished second in his last three starts. He stayed on over 2000m last time, but found one too good in the form of Rain In Holland. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

IMPERIAL MASTER finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

Race 10

BLACK EGRET followed up his maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. He raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. The son of Rafeef finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. He is consistent and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

RAMCHANDANI ROAD was unlucky in his last start over 1100m on this course. He has won twice from seven starts over this C&D. Kabelo Matsunyane retains the ride and with a bit of luck in running, he should fight out the finish.

STORM DICTATOR was running on when second over this C&D last time. He would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. He is capable of going one better in this line-up
