Top Bet For Today

Race 2: MELECH (7)
Jockey: M Yeni – Trainer: R Magner

MELECH is the best bet on the programme. He produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. He showed good pace, understandably raced green but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of William Longsword would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

Race 4: GOBSMACKED (4)
Jockey: K de Melo – Trainer: J A Janse van Vuuren

GOBSMACKED is unbeaten from four starts to date. She showed good guts when winning her season debut over 1200m on the Inside course. The daughter of Querari would have come on from the run and she can keep her unbeaten record intact.

Race 6: SHOEMAKER (9)
Jockey: R Fourie – Trainer: M de Kock

Trainer Mike de Kock holds a strong hand in this contest and he can saddle the first two past the post. SHOEMAKER should have won the Grade 3 Graham Beck Stakes last time as he had no luck in the straight. He would have come on from the run and will love the rise to the mile. With a bit of luck in running, he should be the one to beat.

Race 7: SPARKLING WATER (4)
Jockey: S Khumalo – Trainer: M de Kock

Hollywoodbets Durban July winner, SPARKLING WATER ran a very good race when third in the Grade 3 Victory Moon Stakes last time. She took the lead at the 400m mark that day, but was outrun late by LITIGATION. She is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The 5yo mare would have come on from the outing and from her handy draw of five, she can notch up her eighth career victory.

Value Bet For Today

Race 5: SOUND OF WARNING (2)
Jockey: R Fourie – Trainer: S Tarry

SOUND OF WARNING showed good signs of a form return in her last start over 1200m on the Inside course. She still showed signs of needing that outing as she raced from just off the pace, but ran out of puff in the latter stages. She won the Grade 3 Magnolia Handicap on this race day, last year. The daughter of Trippi is having her peak run, she runs well for Richard Fourie and can notch up her fourth career victory
