WSB Logo Orange 80x80The PGA Tour heads to Texas this week after the completion of the second major of the year last weekend.

Scottie Scheffler who won the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow will take part in yet another hometown event while a number of top players on tour are in the field this week.

We select 4 players to take on the bookmakers.

The Course

The Colonial Country Club will play host to this week’s tournament. Located in Fort Worth Texas. The course has a number of tight tree lined dog legs with small greens that demand accuracy from tee to green.

There are plenty of bunkers to grab errant tee and approach shots and water is also in play on a number of holes.

Despite being a tight track driving distance has proved important in the past although driving accuracy is probably going to be the stat that matters most.

It sounds obvious but we are looking for someone long who is high up in the driving accuracy standings.

The par 70 plays 7,209 yards.

Market Leaders

After winning his third major of his career last weekend, Scottie Scheffler is the heavy favourite going into this weekend as the bookies have him trading at 3.50 for the win. Jordan Spieth is next trading at 23.00 followed by Daniel Berger and Tommy Fleetwood at 26.00 each.

It is hard to bet against Scheffler and he doesn’t look the type to go on a bender after a Major win but at the prices we are going to try and beat him this week.

Selections:

Harris English at 41.00

English has been putting in some solid performances leading up to this week. He had a very impressive weekend as he finished joint runner-up at the PGA Championship, storming through the field. Leading up to last weekend he had secured two top fifteen and another top twenty finish in his previous four starts. He missed the cut here in 2024 but has a runner up finish here in 2016 and does not play this tournament every year.

I am backing his course form to reappear given how he is playing.

Jordan Spieth at 23.00

Spieth has an impressive record at Colonial Country Club. Over the last 10 years he has, won the tournament once, finished runner-up three times and finished in the top ten another three times. Spieth has been starting to find his game again securing a top five, two top fifteens and another top twenty finish all in his last six starts on tour. He will be excited to put in another big performance in front of his home crowd and I think he can challenge Scheffler for the win this weekend.

Suggested bet: Each way at 23.00

JT Poston at 46.00

Poston comes into this week finishing in the top twenty-five or better in all of his last four starts on tour. He had a very solid week last week as he finished fifth at the PGA Championship. Poston finished twelfth at last years tournament and will look to improve on that as he heads into this week. If he can carry his momentum of the last few weeks into this week then this price may well look very juicy.

Suggested bet: Each way at 46.00

Christiaan Bezuidenhout at 101.00

Our rank outsider this week is a South African. Bezuidenhout has solid course form with 3 successive top 25's including a 17th place last year post the course changes.

He has been battling a bit of late but although 50th in the PGA last week he showed signs that his game has turned the corner and that he is coming back to form.

South African success on the PGA Tour is rare these days and here is hoping that Bez can deliver at a tasty triple figure price.
