The next episode in the Betway Premiership title race takes place on Wednesday night when Mamelodi Sundowns bid to regain top spot when they host Stellenbosch
Sundowns
Sundowns most recent league action came back on 7th April when they won 1-0 at Durban City. That was a tenth straight league win for Downs but they still have Orlando Pirates for company in the title race. Coming into this game Downs are second in the standings with 56 points, 2 points shy of Pirates who have played 2 games more. This is the first of those 2 games in hand and only a victory will see Downs go top. Another would also crank up the pressure on the Bucs who face Chiefs in the Soweto derby at the weekend.
Since the win at Durban City Sundowns have been in CAF Champions League action and they won both legs of their semi final match up with Esperance by a 1-0 scoreline and they will meet ASFAR of Morocco in the final staged over 2 legs next month.
Stellenbosch FC
Stellies are ninth in the standings with 31 points, 3 shy of a top 8 spot which will be their target between now and the end of the season. Their only defeat in the last 10 league games came in their most recent road trip where they went down 2-1 at Richards Bay. Since then Stellies bounced back with a 3-1 home win over Sekhukhune and they now take aim at Sundowns who beat them 1-0 in the Western Cape in the first league meeting at the start of the season.
The Betting:
At the time of writing Sundowns are 4/10 to win the match with the draw at 7/2 and Stellenboch can be backed at 8/1
A game of goals or more is priced at even money and it’s 1.45/1 for both teams to score.
The Verdict:
Sundowns form is almost flawless but they have conceded in each of their last 4 Betway Premiership home games. Meanwhile Stellies have found the net in 5 of their last 6 road trips, those games may not have been against the calibre of side they meet here but those stats do give backers of both teams to score? Yes some cause for optimism.
Bets: Both tams to score? Yes at 1.45/1 with Lucky Fish
