Aston Villa v Arsenal
Villa came from 2-0 down to win 4-3 at Brighton in midweek, taking their impressive run in the EPL to 8 wins from the last 9. They come into the weekend in third place, 1 point behind Man City and 6 shy of Arsenal. They have already better City (1-0) at Villa Park this season and now take aim at the league leaders.
Arsenal started Wednesday’s 2-0 home win over Brentford with some key men on the bench and now hit the road again having had to settle for draws at Sunderland and Chelsea in their last two away fixtures. Their only defeat this season came at Liverpool back in Round 3 of the EPL, they have been without Gabriel and Sailba in their last two matches but further up field other players are making their way back to full fitness.

Bournemouth v Chelsea
Bournemouth are in a bit of a rut having taken just 1 point from the last 15 available. That came from a 2-2 draw at home to West Ham but in midweek they lost -0 to Everton at this venue, their first home defeat o the season and they have dropped down to 14th in the standings.
Chelsea also came unstuck in midweek when they went down 3-1 away to Leeds, a result that saw them slip to fourth place on the log, now 9 points behind the Gunners. They have won 4 of 7 road trips which all came against sides currently in the bottom half of the standings.

Everton v Notts Forest
Everton’s 1-0 win at Bournemouth was their third victory in the last 4 league games and moved them up to tenth. They did crash to a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle in their most recent home game but they have beaten Brighton, Palace and Fulham here this season.
Forest were also 1-0 winners away from in midweek and that win at Wolves saw their tally rise to 15 points, 10 of which have been earned in their last 5 league games. They have already won on Merseyside this season, 3-0 at Liverpool last month.

Man City v Sunderland
City were involved in a crazy game at Fulham on Tuesday, leading 5-1 they eventually held on for a 5-4 victory to go second in the standings, 5 points behind Arsenal. They have won 7 of their last 9 league games and the two defeats in that sequence both came away from home. City will visit Real Madrid in the UCL on Wednesday and they have work to do in that competition to secure an automatic qualification place for the knockout rounds.
This week is a major test of Sunderland’s ability to stay in the scrum comprised of a number of clubs separated by just 6 points from fourth to fifteenth. On Wednesday they came through another stern test with flying colours, drawing 1-1 at Liverpool, a game they led and also threatened to win the death. Their 3 league defeats this season all came away from home, at Burnley, Man United and Fulham but they have won at Forest and Chelsea and also drew at Palace.

Newcastle v Burnley
Newcastle were pegged back at the death by Spurs in a 2-2 draw at St. James Park on Tuesday and they finished the round in mid table. Although they have lost earlier home games to Liverpool and Arsenal due to other late goals conceded, overall home form is pretty strong with wins over Wolves, Forest, Fulham and Man City.
Burnley went down 1-0 at home to Palace on Wednesday, a fifth straight defeat which leaves them second from bottom with 10 points against their name. They have won at bottom of the table Wolves this season but 6 other road trips ended in defeat.

Spurs v Brentford
After their late equalizer at Newcastle on Tuesday Spurs are just below halfway in the standings with 19 points, 14 of which were earned away from home. They have had success in UCL home games but as far as the EPL is concerned they have just a win over Burnley on the opening weekend, a draw with rock bottom Wolves and another draw with Man United to show for their efforts in earlier home fixtures.
Brentford benched a couple of big guns in their 2-0 defeat at Arsenal on Wednesday. They also come into this game with 19 points but in contrast to Spurs 16 of hose have been delivered in home games and just 3 (a win at struggling West Ham) came when travelling.

Leeds v Liverpool
Leeds snapped a 4 match losing streak with the 3-1 home win over Chelsea on Wednesday which moved them out of the drop zone and eased the pressure on their coach. They have also beaten Everton and West Ham in earlier home games although more recently Villa and Spurs both came from behind to win at Elland Road.
Liverpool’s 2-0 win at West Ham last week was a timely boost but they couldn’t build on that in midweek when they played out a 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland. With 22 points they are already 9 behind Arsenal and they finished the midweek program in eighth position.
