Three English Premier League matches take place on Sunday and we have tips for Bournemouth v Newcastle. Sunderland v Aston Villa and Arsenal v Manchester City
Prices quoted are correct at the time of publication but subject to change.
Bournemouth host Newcastle and the home side and going really well. Although they went down 4-2 at Liverpool on the opening weekend they have since reeled off 3 straight wins, at home to Wolves and away to Spurs (both 1-0) and most recently at home to Brighton (2-1) which saw them finish Round 4 in fourth place.
Newcastle's return to the Champions League saw them go down 2-1 at home to Barcelona on Thursday night. In the EPL new signing Wissa missed a 1-0 home win over Wolves last weekend through injury although another new striking recruit Woltemade was responsible for the decisive goal. Other early season results saw Newcastle play out 0-0 draws at Villa and Leeds either side of a 3-2 home defeat to Liverpool.
Bournemouth have taken 4 points off Newcastle in each of the last 2 seasons and although they lost some talent in the transfer window and have been missing a few regulars through injury they are in great shape. Newcastle put in a big shift in midweek against Barca, this is more “winnable” on paper but I'm siding with the draw.
Bets: Match Result Draw at 2.55/1 with Betway
Sunderland have made a solid start to life in the Premier League with 7 points to their name and their next assignment comes at home to Aston Villa. They have won both of their home games, 3-0 against West Ham and 2-1 when Brentford came to town. They were beaten 2-0 at Burnley in Round 2 but last weekend they came away from Palace with a creditable 0-0 draw.
Villa are second from bottom and the only side who have yet to score a Premier League goal this season. They drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle on the opening weekend and played out another stalemate away to Everton last time out. In between they lost 1-0 at Brentford and 3-0 at home to Palace. Villa did find the net (Harvey Elliot) away to Brentford in the EFL Cup in midweek but the game finished 1-1 and Brentford won the penalty shoot out.
Sunderland have been terrific although they have generally battled to create clear cut chances. Meanwhile Villa haven't scored a league goal so on the face of it you would think this is booked for a low scoring game. However Villa could click at any time and I think Sunderland have the scope to improve in the final third. I'm with over 2.5 goals here.
Bets: Total goals, over 2.5 at 11/10 with SuperSportBet
The last action of the weekend is a big one as Arsenal take on Manchester City at The Emirates. Both these sides were in UCL action in midweek with Arsenal winning 2-0 at Bilbao on Tuesday and City ran out winners by the same scoreline at home to Napoli on Thursday.
Arsenal have started the new EPL campaign with 3 wins and a 1-0 defeat at Liverpool. The wins, at Man United (1-0) and at home to Leeds (5-0) and Forest (3-0) all came with a clean sheet.
After 4 rounds of matches in the new EPL season City have 2 wins and 2 defeats against their name. They looked good on the opening weekend in a 4-0 win at Wolves and again last Sunday when they beat United 3-0 in the Manchester derby but in between they lost at home to Spurs and also went down at Brighton.
Haaland has been banging in the goals for City, Foden looks back in form and Doku is a defenders nightmare but they come up against the best backline in the league. I thnk City's defence will be busy and I'm with Sportingbet's price boost for Arsenal to win but with City contributing to the scoring.
Bets: Arsenal win and both teams to score? (yes) at 29/10 with Sportingbet
