Matchday 3 of the Uefa Champions League concludes on Wednesday night when our focus is on Frankfurt v Liverpool and Monaco v Spurs

Frankfurt v Liverpool

Frankfurt’s results from their first 2 UCL matches have been like chalk and cheese. On Matchday 1 they put Galatasaray away 5-1 in a home fixture with Burkardt scoring 2 of their goals. The boot was n the other foot in the previous round as they crashed and burned 5-1 to Atletico in Madrid.

In the Bundesliga Frankfurt are seventh with a record of 3 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats and there has been a total of 37 goals (19 scored, 18 conceded) in their 7 league games.

Matchday 2 saw Liverpool lose 1-0 away to Galatasaray, conceding from an early penalty and there was to be no way back. Their UCL campaign began at home to Atletico Madrid and they came out on top 3-2. Roberston and Salah had them 2-0 up in the first 6 minutes but Atletico restored parity before a late winner from Virgil.

In the EPL Liverpool have lost their last 3 games, at Palace, then at Chelsea and most recently at home to Man United (all those games finished with a 2-1 scoreline). That slump in form has seen them drop to third place, 4 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

The Verdict

I see this as an opportunity for Liverpool to regain some confidence and I’m with them to come out on top with some daylight.

Monaco v Spurs

Monaco have just the 1 point to show from their first 2 UCL matches. They drew 2-2 at home to Manchester City on Matchday 2, equalizing an early City goal through Teze and then rescuing a point with an Eric Dier penalty on 90 minutes. Monaco were thumped 4-1 away to Club Brugge on Matchday 1. They conceded 3 goals in a 10 minute spell late in the first half and another in the second half before finding a late consolation.

Monaco have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 2 of their Ligue 1 matches, scoring 17 goals and conceding 13 and they are in seventh spot in the standings, 4 points off the pace.

Spurs came from 2-0 down to rescue a point in a 2-2 away to Bodo Glimt on Matchday 2 thanks to Van de Ven and a very late own goal. A horrible goalkeeping error resulted in Spurs taking a fourth minute lead at home to Villarreal on Matchday 1 and it remained 1-0 for the remainder of the match.

Spurs lost 2-1 at home to Villa in the EPL on Sunday and can be found in sixth place, 5 points behind Arsenal. Their away form is excellent with 3 wins and 1 draw and they have found the net at least twice in each of those road trips.

The Verdict

There have been holes in this Monaco defence and I’m wagering Kudus can set up a goal from out wide for Spurs.
