I have a small outright fancy on the first rest day.

I thought Garcia Pierna looked pretty frisky up the last climb on Sunday. He currently sits 46 seconds outside the top 10 and he can time trial. I think he has comfortably an even shot at making the top 10.

So I spent the rest day studying all the options and came up with Garcia Pierna on the outright and stage double. Yesterday 168 riders started. 167 Finished and only one had to retire from a crash - My Man. This is the punting gods subtle way of telling me to stop wasting money on the Vuelta.

I took Bernal for a Top 10 into some multies earlier Vann and all of a sudden he looks in serious trouble - so I feel your pain!

I have also kept throwing money down the Wout Poels pit the last few stages but now I can't drop him due to fear of missing out...
Adding Gaudu at 40/1 (hopefully far enough behind now) and Higuita at 150/1.

Compulory Poels bet at 40/1 and then:
Armirail (50/1) and Ryan (66/1) for other break shots.
Can't skip Jonas at 16/1 should things be a GC day - he looked good going downhill yesterday.

I think I will add Ayuso on any stage with climbing for the remainder of the Vuelta. 


Stage 13

Finish on the obscene Angiliru today. How the bigger riders get their bodies up there I have no idea. Sadly not getting the whole stage today so even though I expect  a GC battle will take two darts. Main bet by a mile will be the double.

So Guardeno and Meintjies ride in together and the cycling gods give the books the nod.  My O Connor stage bet left the Vuelta yesterday and looks like my Riccitello white jersey punt will be asked to leave the race soon. Unable to cover the white jersey outright as books either not offering or offering without Ricci.

Stage 14

Nothing on the match bets today. Would have to take a treble to get odds against so not worth it. UAE probably send someone up the road today and they have won several stages so taking

Perfect read yesterday but sadly unable to even pick the winner from a team of eight. With the punting going down the tubes and the ever present concern for riders safety it has not been a vintage Vuelta.

After the laughingly swift end to the last rest day pick I have none for this week.

Stage  16

Form from the GC lot seems to be let the right break go so a few darts. If you can believe any thing a DS says then it is possible that Poels was ill last week but feels better now.

These are the stages where I would normally start making match bets ie stages finishing with climbs. No point now with the finish line unknown. Will only have a beer or so on the remaining stages

Has not been a great Vuelta. The demonstrations have spoiled it for me and today - if you can believe some sites - they are paying top dollar for demonstrators. Just hope all the riders get through unscathed. Been poor on the punting side too. The Pellizzari bad day yesterday at least gave me the Riccitello white jersey at 6/1. Just have to hope he does not get taken out today.
