The DP World Tour moves from Belgium to Austria this week as the European swing rolls on, with the field heading to Kitzbühel for the Austrian Alpine Open. After back-to-back South African winners on tour, the obvious question is whether one of their countrymen can complete a hat-trick of victories on the bounce. We take a look at the week from a betting angle and lay down a few suggested bets.
Course
This week's DP World Tour action heads to Golfclub Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith in the Austrian Tyrol for the Austrian Alpine Open. Designed by the Hauser brothers in the late 1980s, this is a relatively short par-70 of around 6,822 yards (6,238 meters) that plays even shorter thanks to its alpine altitude and will be used on the DP World Tour for the 1st time.
The front nine is a fairly flat affair, but the back nine climbs into more undulating terrain where water hazards start to come into play and shot selection becomes critical. The signature hole is the par-3 16th, known as the "Mausefalle," or Mousetrap, which demands a committed tee shot over a ravine.
From a betting angle, this should be a birdie-makers venue with a low bar for entry on the leaderboard. The greens are smooth but on the slower side, which puts a premium on flying the ball close to the pin rather than relying on roll-out, so strokes gained on approach and proximity numbers should carry serious weight.

SELECTIONS:
Jacob Skov Olesen at 31.00
Olesen has been one of the in-form players on tour over the last few weeks. The Dane has finished inside the top five in three of his last four starts and is coming off the back of a runner-up finish at last weekend’s Soudal Open. With so many of the top DP World Tour players splitting their time between this tour and the PGA Tour, the stats can be tricky to read, however, Olesen sits above the tour average for putts per green in regulation, average putts per round and stroke average. I could easily see another solid performance from him this weekend.
Suggested bet: Jacob Skov Olesen each way at 31.00
Sepp Straka at 10.00
Straka returns from the PGA Tour this week to play in his home Open. He has played some decent golf on the PGA Tour over the last few months, with strong results including a fourth-place finish at the Miami Championship earlier this month and an eighth-place finish at the Players Championship back in March. Straka is currently ranked 10th on the PGA Tour for strokes gained on approach, by far the strongest part of his game and, as we discussed in the course preview, exactly the skill that should pay dividends around Kitzbühel this week.
Suggested bet: Sepp Straka each way at 10.00
Hennie du Plessis at 26.00
The last two DP World Tour events have both been won by South Africans. Richard Sterne took the Soudal Open last weekend after finishing 18-under and winning by two shots, while Yurav Premlall had won the Catalunya Championship two weeks earlier with a remarkable 28-under total and a margin of an incredible 14 shots. Following that trend, we are going with Hennie du Plessis to keep the run going this weekend. He has made the cut 81% of the time on tour this season and is regularly in the mix on Sunday. He also had a hot streak earlier in the year, finishing 4th at the Joburg Open, 2nd at the South African Open and 3rd at the Kenya Open. He definitely stands a chance this weekend at a decent price.
Suggested bet: Hennie du Plessis each way at 26.00
