The DP World Tour heads to Germany this week for the BMW International Open at Golfclub München Eichenried, just outside Munich. With The Open Championship now just two weeks away, this is one of the last chances for several DP World Tour players to grab a spot in the field at Royal Portrush via the Open Qualifying Series, so expect some big efforts from those still on the bubble. We look at this week’s tournament from a betting angle and offer up our suggested bets for consideration.

Course

Golfclub München Eichenried is a classic parkland layout set in the Bavarian countryside, having hosted the BMW International Open for over three decades. The par-72 course measures around 6,824 metres, with tree-lined fairways, water hazards coming into play on a number of holes and slick bentgrass greens that put a real emphasis on positional approach play. It is the kind of venue that rewards complete, controlled golf, where birdies are very much available, but where poor course management is quickly punished.

From a betting angle, this is a venue where iron play and birdie conversion matter most. Strokes gained on approach has historically been the strongest predictive stat at Eichenried, with putting on the slick bentgrass surfaces and patient course management also worth weighting. Recent winning scores have generally ranged from the mid-teens to low-twenties under par, so look for players in form with their irons and the kind of measured game-plan suited to a classic parkland layout.

Market Leaders

Joaquin Niemann tops the board at 8.00 as the clear favourite after his recent run of strong results on both sides of the golfing world. Patrick Reed is the next-shortest price at 17.00, with Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra and Angel Ayora both available at 19.00, Chacarra coming in off the back of his Italian Open win last week. Daniel Hillier is at 23.00 with Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen rounding out the top of the board at 26.00. With Niemann the obvious pick at the top but plenty of in-form players close behind, this is a really competitive market this week.

SELECTIONS:

Eugenio Chacarra 19.00

Our pick last week at the Italian Open was Chacarra, and it paid off in style as the Spaniard went on to win the tournament by five shots, finishing on a remarkable 24-under. That was his second win in a row after taking the KLM Open earlier in the month, and now he comes into this week looking to make it three on the bounce. With the form he is in and a parkland venue that should suit his approach play, it is difficult to look past him again at 19.00.

Suggested bet: Eugenio Chacarra each way at 19.00

Joaquin Niemann at 8.00

Joaquin Niemann was another of our picks at the Italian Open last week, and the each-way also paid off as the Chilean finished third. Niemann has been on a brilliant run of form on LIV and is also putting together strong results on the DP World Tour. He had a fine US Open where he finished 7th despite carding an 11 on a par-4 in round one and followed that up with a 3rd at the Italian Open last weekend. If he can carry that form through this week, I think we could see another big result from him as he builds towards The Open Championship.

Suggested bet: Joaquin Niemann each way at 8.00

Kota Kaneko at 71.00

Kaneko makes his tournament debut this week, but the young Japanese star arrives in excellent form. The 23-year-old won the Austrian Open two starts ago before backing that up with an impressive 11th-place finish at last week's Italian Open.

His game appears well suited to this course, with accurate driving and solid approach play likely to be rewarded this week. The one area he will be looking to improve is on the greens, where he struggled to convert chances last week. If the putter warms up, he has every chance of outperforming his odds and his putting is generally a strength.

Suggested bet: Kota Kaneko each way at 71.00.
