The second major of 2026 has arrived, and it is a big one. The PGA Championship heads to Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania this week, with the world's best going head-to-head on Donald Ross's self-proclaimed masterpiece. With Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy in blistering form and a host of contenders looking to make their mark on a major stage, this has all the ingredients for a memorable week. We take a look at the betting landscape and choose 4 players to take on the bookmakers.

The Course

Aronimink Golf Club is a par-70 layout stretching to 7,394 yards (6,761 metres) in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Designed by Donald Ross in 1926 and famously described by the architect himself as “my masterpiece”, the course was extensively restored by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner in 2017, with over 100 bunkers reintroduced to recreate Ross’s original vision based on 1920s aerial photography. The result is a demanding, old-school championship test that places a premium on precision and patience.

The defining challenge at Aronimink lies in the green complexes. Ross designed the greens to be elevated, sloping and subtly contoured, meaning they play much smaller than their generous average size of around 8,100 square feet (approx. 752 square metres). Deep, strategically placed bunkers surround many of the greens and place enormous pressure on scrambling and distance control.

With 12 par 4s, just two par 5s and four testing par 3s, the course rewards elite iron play and disciplined course management over pure power. The rolling terrain, tree-lined fairways and demanding approach angles mean players will need to consistently find the correct sections of greens to avoid extremely difficult two-putts. Strong tee-to-green players with elite short games should have a major advantage this week.

Selections:

Matt Fitzpatrick at 23.00

The first name that jumps out when looking at the odds is Matt Fitzpatrick. Although he is coming off the back of a disappointing performance at the Truist Championship last week, he has been one of the most in-form players on tour this season and the results speak for themselves. He has already won three tournaments this year, claiming victories at the Valspar Championship, RBC Heritage and Zurich Classic, while also finishing runner-up at The Players Championship.

Statistically, his game looks perfectly suited to Aronimink. Fitzpatrick currently ranks third in strokes gained tee-to-green and fifth in strokes gained approach on the PGA Tour. At a venue where precision iron play and positioning on the greens are critical, those numbers stand out massively.

Suggested bet: Matt Fitzpatrick each way at 23.00.

Xander Schauffele at 17.00

When looking at recent major championship form, Schauffele’s consistency is almost unmatched. In his last nine starts at majors dating back to 2024, he has finished inside the top 10 seven times. Even his “poor” performances resulted in 12th-place finishes.

Schauffele is already a two-time major champion after winning both the 2024 Open Championship and 2024 PGA Championship, and he opened his 2026 major season with a ninth-place finish at Augusta. One of the strongest aspects of his game is scrambling, where he currently ranks seventh on the PGA Tour, a stat that should prove extremely important around Aronimink’s difficult green complexes.

Suggested bet: Xander Schauffele each way at 17.00 with a larger stake on a top 5 finish at 4.25.

Scottie Scheffler at 5.50

It is incredibly difficult to look beyond Scheffler when assessing both form and statistics heading into this week. In his last three starts he has finished runner-up each time, including at the Masters and two signature events. Over the past two seasons in majors, he has won three times, namey the 2025 PGA Championship, the 2025 Open Championship and the 2024 Masters, while adding another four top-10 finishes during that period.

Scheffler currently ranks first on the PGA Tour in strokes gained total and greens in regulation, two areas that should be hugely important at Aronimink. If he continues striking the ball at this level, it is hard to see him not contending deep into Sunday.

Suggested bet: Scottie Scheffler to win at 5.50.

Russell Henley at 56.00

Henley is the dark horse selection this week. While the spotlight will naturally fall on the biggest names in the field, majors regularly produce surprise contenders, and Henley has quietly built an excellent record in these events. He has finished inside the top 10 in five of his last seven majors, proving he can compete against the very best on the biggest stages.

At this year’s Masters, while much of the attention focused on McIlroy, Henley quietly posted a superb performance to finish just two shots off the lead at ten under par. His accuracy, iron play and tidy short game all look well suited to Aronimink’s demands.

Suggested bet: Russell Henley each way at 56.00.
