The PGA Tour heads to Scottsdale, Arizona, this week for the 2026 Waste Management Phoenix Open, one of the most exciting and best-supported events on the calendar. Known for its electric atmosphere and stadium-style setting, this tournament regularly produces low scoring and dramatic finishes. Below, we assess the week from a betting perspective and highlight a few suggested plays.

The Course

The tournament is played at TPC Scottsdale (Stadium Course), located on the outskirts of Phoenix in the Arizona desert. The course plays to a par 72 and measures 7,261 yards (6,639 metres).

Due to the dry desert air and altitude, the ball tends to travel further than at many other PGA Tour venues, often giving longer hitters a slight advantage. However, power alone is not enough, as smart positioning and strong wedge play are crucial to scoring well.

The fairways are generally wide and forgiving, allowing players to attack from the tee, while rough is rarely overly penal. There are relatively few severe hazards, with water coming into play on just six holes, but it is strategically placed and can punish aggressive mistakes.

The greens are larger than the PGA Tour average and feature subtle contours, placing emphasis on distance control and confident putting. When players are dialled in with their irons, TPC Scottsdale can yield very low scores, particularly in calm conditions.

A defining feature of the course is the famous 16th hole, a fully enclosed par 3 stadium that creates one of the most intense atmospheres in world golf. Handling pressure in front of large crowds is often a key factor in determining the winner.

In summary: TPC Scottsdale favours aggressive players who can combine length with solid iron play and a reliable putter. Strong birdie-makers who are comfortable performing under pressure tend to thrive here.

Selections:

Scottie Scheffler at 3.25

After a remarkable 2025 season, Scheffler made the perfect start to 2026 by winning The American Express by five shots, a result we cheered on all the way to the bank. He has also been outstanding at TPC Scottsdale, winning this event in both 2022 and 2023 and finishing inside the top three in three of his last five appearances.

His supurb tee-to-green game and ability to dominate birdie-friendly courses make him ideally suited to this layout. There is a clear reason why he heads the market, and he looks the most likely winner once again.

Suggested bet: Scottie Scheffler to win at 3.25

Si Woo Kim at 26.00

Kim comes into this week in excellent form, having finished 11th, 6th, and 2nd in his last three starts. His runner-up finish came last weekend at the Farmers Insurance Open, where he impressed with his consistency and composure.

He also has a solid record at TPC Scottsdale, finishing inside the top 25 in each of his last three appearances. With momentum so important at this stage of the season, Kim looks well placed to contend again.

Suggested bet: Si Woo Kim each way at 26.00.

Jordan Spieth at 56.00

Spieth has an outstanding record at the WM Phoenix Open, and TPC Scottsdale clearly suits his game. In his last five starts here, he has finished outside the top six on only one occasion, including a fourth-place finish last year.

After a disappointing performance last week, he will be eager to bounce back at a venue where he feels comfortable. If his putter cooperates, he has the class and course history to feature prominently.

Suggested bet: Jordan Spieth each way at 56.00.
