The PGA Tour heads to Mexico for a second week in a row as the World Wide Technology Championship gets underway at El Cardonal in Cabo San Lucas, with the tournament running from 5 to 8 November. Ben Griffin is the defending champion after winning at 29 under par last year, and he is one of three players priced at 15.00 at the top of the market, along with Ryan Gerard and Ben James.

We have three selections this week, all of whom played at the Mexico Open last week and including an outside shot at a big price, so here is our full betting preview for the World Wide Technology Championship.

Course

El Cardonal is a par 72 measuring around 7,452 yards and was the first course completed by Tiger Woods’ design firm, TGR Design. It opened in 2014 and is set on higher ground at Diamante, with dune-framed fairways on the front nine and desert arroyos on the back nine. The fairways are wide and the greens are large and undulating, with plenty of bunkering to avoid, so it is a course that rewards strategy over power. It is also the first Tiger Woods design to host a PGA Tour event. The scoring is usually very low, with winning scores of between 23 and 29 under par in each of the last five years, and Ben Griffin set the benchmark last year at 29 under. We are therefore looking for players who are in good form with their approach play and putter, and who can go low for four days in a row.

Previous Winners

2025     Ben Griffin (United States)                         -29                         2 strokes

2024     Austin Eckroat (United States)                 -24                         1 stroke

2023     Erik van Rooyen (South Africa)                 -27                         2 strokes

2022     Russell Henley (United States)                -23                         4 strokes

2021     Viktor Hovland (Norway)                             -23                         4 strokes

Ben Griffin, Ryan Gerard and Ben James are all priced at 15.00 at the top of the market, with Jackson Koivun next at 17.00, then Blades Brown at 26.00 and Jordan Smith at 31.00. There is nothing to separate the three favourites in the market, and so we have gone with two of them, Griffin and James, along with Steven Fisk at 41.00 as an outside shot. All three of our picks were in action at the Mexico Open last week, finishing fourth (Griffin), second (Fisk) and 16th (James), so they arrive with competitive rounds fresh in the legs and in good form.

SELECTIONS:

Ben Griffin at 15.00

Our first pick is Ben Griffin, who won the tournament last year and finished fourth at last week’s VidantaWorld Mexico Open. Griffin won here at 29 under par, two strokes clear of the field, and that win was the lowest winning score of the last five editions of this event, which tells us how well he can play this course. He comes back to a course he knows he can win at, and with a fourth-place finish in Mexico last week, his form is also strong. At 15.00 each way, we think he is a very fair price to defend his title.

Suggested bet: Ben Griffin each way at 15.00.

Steven Fisk at 41.00

Steven Fisk is our outside shot this week, but he has been solid. He was runner-up last weekend in Mexico and finished 7th at the Black Desert Championship back in October, which gives him two top 10s in his last three starts. At 41.00 each way, we think he is worth a bet for a player who has shown he can contend, and he arrives at this tournament off the back of a runner-up finish. With the three favourites all at 15.00 and a wide-open market, a price of 41.00 gives us some very nice each-way value.

Suggested bet: Steven Fisk each way at 41.00.

Ben James at 15.00

Ben James is also one of the favourites, and reasonably so. He finished 16th last weekend in Mexico, 5th at the Black Desert Championship, runner-up at the Biltmore Championship and 3rd at the Wyndham Championship. That is a run of consistent results against strong fields, and we think he is a deserving favourite at 15.00. He is priced at the same 15.00 as Griffin and Gerard, but his record of top-five finishes shows he can contend against strong fields, so we are happy to back him each way.

Suggested bet: Ben James each way at 15.00.
