The final tournament of the PGA Tour’s regular season is upon us this week with the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, and there is an enormous amount at stake.
Players sitting on the bubble are fighting to secure their FedEx Cup playoff spot, and this week represents their last chance to jump into the top 70 and keep their season alive.
Defending champion Cameron Young returns as the favourite off the back of his dominant six-shot win at Sedgefield last year, and with a stacked leaderboard likely across the four days, we should be treated to plenty of drama in Greensboro.
Course
Sedgefield Country Club is a classic Donald Ross-designed par 70 layout that has been a firm fan favourite on the PGA Tour for years. It is a shorter course by tour standards at around 7,127 yards (6,517 meters), but that certainly does not mean it plays easy as the layout puts a real premium on precision, course management and clever scoring rather than pure length off the tee.
The par 4s are where this tournament tends to be won and lost. There are ten of them at Sedgefield, more than at most PGA Tour venues, which means par 4 scoring average is the most important stat we can look at this week when identifying selections.
Alongside par 4 scoring, driving accuracy is going to be crucial this week. Sedgefield’s fairways are tree-lined and, while the rough is not brutal by PGA Tour standards, missing fairways here regularly leads to blocked-out approaches and dropped shots. Players who consistently find the short stuff give themselves the chance to attack pins with wedges and short irons, and this week’s winner will almost certainly be someone who ranks near the top of the driving accuracy standings. Approach play from the fairway will also be important given the small, well-protected Ross greens.

As mentioned, defending champion Cameron Young heads the market at 9.50 as the clear favourite after his dominant win here last year. Jackson Koivun is next in at 17.00, followed by 2022 champion Hideki Matsuyama at 19.00 in what is a genuinely stacked market at the top end. Ryan Gerard is at 23.00, with Ben Griffin at 26.00 and 2024 champion Aaron Rai rounding out the top of the boards at 29.00. Plenty of quality throughout the field this week.

SELECTIONS:
Hideki Matsuyama at 19.00
Our first pick of the week is Hideki Matsuyama, and at 19.00 we think he’s a great option. In his last four starts he has two 14th-place finishes as well as a 5th at last week’s Rocket Classic and a 3rd at the 3M Open the week before that. Matsuyama also managed a top-20 finish at last year’s edition of the tournament, and if he can carry his current momentum into this week we think he stands a great chance of contending come Sunday.

Michael Kim at 67.00
A bit of an outsider pick this week, but no doubt he still has a serious chance. Michael Kim has put together two solid performances in the last two weeks heading into Sedgefield CC. He shot -17 over four days at the 3M Open to finish in 10th place and followed it up the next weekend shooting -12 to finish 8th at the Rocket Classic. Kim also had a solid finish at the Wyndham Championship back in 2023, where he finished in fifth place. At the big price on offer, we like him for a top-10 finish this week.

Cameron Young at 9.50
There is a reason the bookies have the defending Champion as the favourite to win this week. Last year we saw Young shoot 22 under to blow the field away and win the tournament by six shots. He returns this year off the back of two solid finishes, 8th at the Rocket Classic last weekend and a runner-up finish at the Open two weeks prior. Young’s biggest stat in his favour is his par 4 scoring average, where he is currently ranked second on tour this season with an average of 3.95 per par 4. As we have seen with previous winners here, par 4 scoring at Sedgefield is absolutely crucial, and so we like him at 9.50 to defend his title.
