My decision to get involved with the PSL last week proved profitable, with the Pirates-Chiefs double landing, and I also hit the rugby double for an all too rare perfect weekend on the newsletter.
The key, of course, is to keep the momentum going, and there's plenty of rugby to look forward to this weekend, including the start of the Greatest Rivalry Tour, with the All Blacks taking on the Stormers in Cape Town.

There isn't a lot of soccer that catches my eye worldwide and, locally, the PSL in typical fashion takes a break after only one week as the MTN8 takes centre stage.
THE HANDICAP
I've been absolutely crazy on the work front this week. I guess I deserve it after being away for three out of the last four weeks! It did mean that I decided to postpone the return of The Handicap until either next week or, more likely, the week after, when we'll have the first Test between the Springboks and All Blacks to look forward to.
WEEKEND PLAYS
I haven't applied my mind to the Currie Cup yet, and we have four matches to look forward to this weekend. Any bets will be posted in the blog as the kick offs approach and we get some points lines.
Stormers v New Zealand
The betting for the Stormers v New Zealand game took a while to come out, and I pounced pretty quickly on New Zealand over 48.5 team points.
I had a look back at previous British & Irish Lions tours and how they started against provincial opposition. In both Australia and South Africa, the Lions went past the 50-point mark in their opening two matches, while in South Africa they did so in their opening three games against provincial opposition.
The weather looks good in Cape Town. What I am a little worried about is taking on the Understaker, Hanrick Swart, who is firmly in the Stormers camp tonight!
I think the All Blacks will cut loose at some stage, so I'm happy to take the handicap out of the equation and focus on their scoring.
Unfortunately, the team points line has now moved from 48.5 to 50.5. Southpaw also posted something in the Goodforthegame forum that caught my eye. He missed the original price as well and has instead gone for New Zealand over 7.5 tries.
When you do the maths, they're pretty much going to need to score eight tries for my team points bet to land anyway, as I can't see them kicking many penalties. Going with the try market also takes conversions out of the equation.
Unfortunately, that line has moved slightly as well, but I'm still prepared to pit up the 8/10 about the All Blacks scoring eight tries or more.
Bet: 3 units (1–5) – New Zealand over 7.5 tries at 8/10 with World Sports Betting.
Rugby Treble at 15.62/1
I'm also going to put together a rugby accumulator, and let me say upfront that not a lot of thought has gone into this one!
The three legs are:
- South Africa to win by 11–20 points inclusive at 3/1
- Lions to beat Griquas at 1.12/1
- Sharks -2.5 against Boland Cavaliers at 0.96/1
Bet: 0.5 units (1–5) – Rugby treble at 15.62 at Betxchange .
