Race 1
PLUMBAGO PARK ran a decent race in her first outing for the Brett Webber stable. She showed good speed but found one too good in the form of Manyeleti. Marco van Rensburg retains the ride and if confirming her recent improvement, she may be the one to beat.
AQUARIUS took time to find her feet on debut but stayed on to finish fourth. The daughter of Rafeef would have gained from the experience and should enjoy the rise to 1200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should pose a threat.
WINTER WEDDING has improved in her last two starts over this distance. She gets the services of 4kgs claiming Apprentice Savanna Valjalo which should assist her cause. She is a progressive type and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 2
ECHOES OF WAR has shown good improvement in each of his races to date. He cost himself winning last time as he shifted outwards from the 300m mark. The son of Rafeef gets the cheekpieces fitted for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand. S’manga Khumalo does duty and he can go one better.
UBERMENSCH took the lead at the 300m mark last time before getting outrun by Trip To States. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
POWER OF PEARLS has good form lines to her credit. She showed speed over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time before getting outrun late. Muzi Yeni may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
Race 3
DAMOVA has good recent form lines to her name. The 7yo mare has no stamina issues and she has won over this distance previously. Craig Zackey steps back into the saddle and if finding the form of her penultimate victory, she may be the one to beat.
MOUNT ETNA has moderate recent form lines to her name. She steps up to 2600m and the blinkers have been removed. The booking of Gavin Lerena is a big plus and she can show good improvement.
LAVA LAMP is better than her last start as she was reported to be lame on her left hind. Her last victory came under 4kgs claiming Apprentice Savanna Valjalo. From pole position, she cannot be discounted.
Race 4
DELAWARE RIVER was running on when fourth over 1450m on this course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She gets the services of 4kgs claiming Apprentice Savanna Valjalo which should assist her cause. From her good draw of two, she can shed her maiden tag.
BATTLE OFTHE BULGE is better than his last start at the Vaal. If finding the form of his penultimate outing when second over 1450m on this course, he should be the first male past the post.
JABARI THIMBA showed signs of needing his comeback run over 1200m at the Vaal. It must be noted that African Pride has come out and won again since. Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and he should strip much fitter.
Race 5
SPUMANTE DOLCE is better than her last start in the Grade 2 Allied Steelrode-Onamission Charity Mile as she was reported to be not striding out. The daughter of Vercingetorix is entered for the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup. She is the class horse in this contest and on best form shown, she should be the one to beat.
MINOGUE ran a fair race in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring F & M Challenge last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
FAMOUS LADY was an easy winner in the Non-Black Type The Lady’s Stakes last time. She returns from a well-deserved 11-week break. If not in need of the outing, she can bring up the hat-trick.
Race 6
Trainer St John Gray holds a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. EIFFEL TOWER showed good signs of a form return when second over 1500m at the Vaal last time. He has finished second once and third twice from four starts on this course. He is likely to race on the speed and if confirming his recent improvement, he should be competitive.
AFTER HOURS ran on well when winning his last start over this C&D. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. He jumps from a good draw of two and merits healthy respect.
LAVA FIRE finished 3.9 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 7
SUNSHINE DAY is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. She finished third in her penultimate outing over this C&D. If this run has not come too soon, she can notch up her third-career victory.
CAN‘T CATCH ME is the stable companion of the top choice. She set the pace over this C&D last time before getting outrun late by Gamer. Her last victory came under Philasande Mxoli and she is one of the leading contenders.
CALIDA finished 0.9 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter.
Race 8
RACHEL WALL showed good speed when winning her seasonal debut over this distance at the Vaal. She was reported to be distressed after the race. The daughter of Buffalo Bill Cody would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and the combination should take a power of beating.
BLIZZARD SNOW is the stable companion of the top choice. She ran a fair race in the Non-Black Type The Lady’s Stakes last time. She won her only attempt over this C&D. 4kgs claiming Apprentice Savanna Valjalo steps back into the saddle and the combination merit healthy respect.
STARS AND BRA‘S raced from a prominent position over 1160m last time but found one too good in the form of Calantha. She will strip much fitter and can earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 9
PRINCESS LOLA stayed on nicely at the finish when third over this C&D last time. The tongue-tie seems to have had the desired effect. She gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming Apprentice Girish Samo- Burthia which will assist her cause. She jumps from a good draw of three and can return to winning ways.
MAVERICK QUEEN has good recent form lines to her name. She stayed on after an awkward start last time. If jumping on terms, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
FAIR PROPOSAL is better than her last start over 1500m. The drop to 1200m may do the trick. She takes a slight drop in class and would not be a shock winner
