Race 1
Trainer Tony Peter holds a strong hand in this contest. ASTROPHILE stayed on when fourth over this distance at TAB Vaal last time. The daughter of Heavenly Blue was reported to be fatigued that day. Savanna Valjalo takes the 1.5kgs off her back which will assist her cause. She meets the right field and can shed her maiden tag. FIRST FROST is an unraced daughter of One World from the Tony Peter yard with Samuel Mosia doing duty. She does not need to be a stable superstar to win this contest. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances. NICCI BEACH was in need of his debut effort over this distance at TAB Vaal. The son of Declarationofpeace would have gained from the experience and should make the natural improvement.
Race 2
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first choice is FIRE FORCE from the visiting Paul Gadsby stable. He is still a maiden after 40 starts but has some fair form to his name. He should love the rise to 2600m and if all went well with his travels, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
JET PLATINO never got into the race over 1800m last time. The son of Danon Platina has scope and steps up to 2600m. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
COMIC ARTIST finished 0.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 5kgs worse off at the weights and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 3
BLUNDERBORE made the expected natural improvement when second over this C&D last time. He raced from a handy position, moved up before getting caught by Skitt Smiling. The son of Malmoos is a progressive type and meets the right field. He is drawn widest of all, but gets the services of Callan Murray who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
RANK AND FILE showed signs of needing her debut effort over 1200m at TAB Vaal. The daughter of Fire Away would have gained from the experience and should enjoy the rise to 1450m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
UNCLE BOB is better than his last start as he was reported to be fatigued. He drops to 1450m and the blinkers should sharpen him up. On best form shown, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 4
VISION OF GOLD produced a good comeback run when third over 1200m at TAB Vaal. She tried hard all the way to the line. The daughter of Gold Standard is a progressive type and will love the rise to 1450m. She will strip much fitter and with luck in running, she may be the one to beat.
POLLY PLUMMER raced wide around the turn over this C&D last time, but stayed on to finish third. The daughter of Erik The Red gets the cheekpieces fitted which should keep her mind on the task at hand. She is having her peak run today and is one of the leading contenders.
PURPLE RAIN‘S last three starts have been creditable. She is having her peak run today and should earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 5
THE BRONX BULL was not disgraced when sixth in the Grade 1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes last time. He returns from a 13-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and if fit, he can notch up his second- career victory.
RADIO STAR was running on when second over 1600m on this course last time. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. The son of Fire Away merits healthy respect.
PRETTY PERSUASIVE finished 1.7 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter.
Race 6
MISSION TO MARS was outrun when third over this distance at TAB Vaal last time. He was super- impressive when winning his previous two efforts on the Standside course. The 6yo gelding should have no issues with the Inside track and can return to winning ways.
PRINCE OF KILDARE is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. On best form shown, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
HOTARUBI showed good improvement when second over 2400m at TAB Vaal last time. He challenged strongly all the way to the line but found one too good in the form of Positive Attitude. If confirming his recent effort, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 7
BOUNDLESS LOVE‘S last two starts have been good. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He won his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Master Of My Fate is likely to race on the pace and from his good draw of two, he may be hard to peg back.
INDUSTRIALSTRENGTH was outrun late when second over 1450m on this course last time. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he should pose a massive threat.
WAR REPORTER has good consistent form to his credit. He has won twice and finished second once from six starts over this distance. He will strip much fitter and should produce another honest performance.
Race 8
KOVIL has produced two good efforts since shedding his maiden tag over 1600m on this course. The son of Malmoos steps up to 1800m and tries the cheekpieces for the first time. He clearly has ability and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may be the one to beat.
DISDAIN was an easy winner when shedding his maiden tag over this C&D last time. The son of Futura does take on stronger, but he is a progressive type and should be up to the task at hand.
COMMANDER OF ALL showed a good turn of foot when winning his last start over 1400m at TAB Vaal. He received a six-pound penalty for that victory. With a bit of luck in running, he can follow up
